This home is near the national park.
We set out to create the Palm Springs home we always wanted to find on Airbnb. Krisel's Glass Cabin (Permit #379) featured on multiple Modernism week tours, was originally designed by modernist architect William Krisel in 1958. The living area blends seamlessly with the desert outside with recent renovations adding a new kitchen, solar system, a heated pool and a cedar hot tub in the gorgeous and private backyard.

The space
This is a premium and architecturally relevant vacation space where you can relax inside or out and and soak in the beauty of the desert. It's furnished with a combination of custom built-ins and mid-century modern reproduction furniture and lighting. Reproductions include Serge Moulle, Tom Dixon & Arne Jacobson lighting, A Hans Wegner Hoop chair and a Nelson Daybed sectional sofa, Nelson bench, Saarinen Womb Chair. The entire back of the house is open to the yard glass blurring the boundary between inside and outside and providing stunning views of the San Jacinto mountains.

Guest access
We are about 6 blocks from the airport, about a 5 minute walk, and a block from public transportation. Downtown Palm Springs is 2 miles and a away. In cooler months (Oct - April) it's an excellent place to get around by bicycle.

You have our entire home! The pool is wonderful year round, and even better when heated to 88 degrees it's $75/day if you want it heated (that's what it actually costs us in gas and electricity!). Please let us know a day in advance so we can start heating prior to your arrival it takes roughly 12 hours to heat it. The garage is used primarily for storage right now, if you need access let us know, but otherwise it will be locked.

Other things to note
We love our home and our neighbors, we hope you do too! We ask that you show our friends and neighbors respect by following the rules of the house. The city of Palm Springs has adopted a very new and very strict zero tolerance Vacation rental policy. There are 'Good Neighbor' brochures inside the house, please read and follow them.

Also, we have put a lot of work into creating our dream vacation home. We hope you enjoy the way that the house is designed and set-up. Please understand that you are staying in a mid century modernist design centric home and it was designed to be aesthetically pleasing and comfortable, and in that order. We have updated the appliances and systems but it still has the bones of a home built in 1958 and therefore requires constant highly specialized maintenance to maintain authenticity. Sometimes a simple problem can't be fixed as quickly as with modern houses because there are not always off the shelf parts available.

Neighborhood highlights

The Sunmor neighborhood was created in the 1950s by legendary builder Bob Higgins due to the 45-minutes of extra sunlight in the area. It's built upon a WW2-era airport with downtown Palm Springs' excellent shops and restaurants just 2 miles away.

I've been an Airbnb advocate for years now, almost all of my vacation and business accommodations have been Airbnbs. I usually stay for several weeks and its so nice to be in an actual neighborhood instead of in a hotel. I love being able to experience a place as if I lived there. Laura and I started hosting our own spaces in 2017 and it's been a lot of fun and work. We love rehabbing spaces and sharing our neighborhoods with our guests. Our guests help us to do what we love!
