Interaction with Guests
I love meeting new people and I interact with my guests as much as they desire that contact. I am careful to respect guests privacy.
I love the small town feel of Meiners Oaks, os as we locals call it "Motown"! We are very close toand the Ojai City center. The neighborhood is safe and there are many beautiful areas to go for walks. Motown" boasts its own quaint "downtown" located on El Roblar, which is only one block away from my home. On El Roblar you will find several wonderful restaurants including Italian (Papa Lennon's) Organic Vegetarian (Farmer and the Cook) Mexican and the upscale restaurant "The Ranchhouse" (nearby). Also dowtoen you will find very cute and locally owned shops such as a music store, custom jeweler, massage school (very inexpensive massages), custom made baby clothing shop, small markets and more.
In addition, we are located walking distance from the Ojai Retreat which regularly offers spiritual workshops and World Music concerts.
Also a favorite for hikers, only 1block away is the "riverbottom", a very large and normally dry riverbed which offers interesting and invigorating hiking.
Information regarding places to go in Ojai and Ojai weekly events is provided in each room.
You can easily access Ojai Valley using the Ojai Trolley which stops nearby on El Roblar, or if you want to venture further you can take the Ventura county public bus to travel into other areas of Ventura County.
Other Things to Note
Also nearby are several wineries, offering daily wine tasting.
Guests are expected to be respectful of each other and their environment. This includes keeping things quiet and peaceful after 10 pm.
We really enjoyed our stay in Ojai hosted by Charlenne Torris! She was a great host and had a great home. Even though we were running late to check in, she gave us clear instructions about what to do and waited for us to arrive. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and comfortable to live in and the rest of the living space were very cozy as well. The neighborhood was quiet and we felt very safe when we spent time there. The breakfast provided was light, but delicious, consisting of fresh fruits and her own jam. She also gave us so much information about the area and stories about the place. My only regret is that we could not stay longer than we did.
This place is really amazing as well as the decoration. Mrs.Chaarenne is very kind and benign. When we got up, she prepared the breakfast for us which surprised me. In all, this place is really good for staying.
We liked staying at her place, and her description of the accomodations matched what we found. She lives in a nice quiet neighborhood with a real feel of community. She gave us a referral for a great restaurant within easy walking distance.
We had a lovely stay at Chaarenne's home, it was immaculate and serene. Will definitely return...Chaarenne was accommodating and a great resource for message recommendation as we were new to Ojai! Sh
Chaarenne was an incredible host! Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance and the jacuzzi under the stars was fantastic! She made us feel right and home and breakfast was the icing on the cake. I will definitely return!
Chaarenne was very welcoming and kind. It was a great place to stay for a night in Ojai!
The room is big and we like the large window and Asian-style furniture very much. I was a pity we arrived too late in night and leave so early in the morning but the host still gave us a warmly welcome.
The place is actually 40 min's drive from Santa Barbara via hwy 150. Just remind you to arrive as early as possible if you don't like to drive in a completely darkness with sharp turns on the cliff.

About the Host, Chaarenne
I am a "Renaissance Woman" meaning I enjoy various type of professions and hobbies, strongly tied into the "arts". I am a songer/songwriter of the pop-folk genre and my songs can be heard on "Women of Substance" internet radio, as well as found on ITunes, Amazon and CDBaby. I am also a licensed clinical social worker and licensed addictions specialist and operate a small private practice helping others with their emotional and relationship issues and struggles.
Though I am Catholic, I embrace all spiritual paths and follow the yoga philosophy that there is "One Truth but Many Paths". I am a licensed Integral Yoga teacher and a teacher of Insight Meditation. I owned and operated a small healing center in Ojai for the past 5 years, where I brought together all these loves and interests. At my center you might learn how to meditate, practice yoga, get counseling help or just purchase some fantastic healing and organic products. During this time I was also the fulltime caretaker for my disabled mother, who I cared for in my home.
Over this past year, my mother's condition declined and she now has had to be cared for in a nearby skilled nursing facility. Since my home is only occupied by myself now, I decided to open it up to others for their pleasure during their time in Ojai. I now teach yoga and meditation classes at home in my refurbished garage. Those are also available to guests, if they choose.
I am a peaceful person, with just a touch of mischief in my soul! Did I mention I teach "Laughing Yoga"? I have such a variety of interests and skills, that others find it amusing. I enjoy learning new things, whether it be a new art, a new profession or a new way of thinking.
Family is very important to me and I am the proud mother of 3 children, 3 grandchildren and soon to be, 2 great-grandchildren! People find this hard to believe when they meet me and they ask "how is that possible"? I tell them "you just have to grow up in Utah and get married at 18"!
I am primarily a vegan, but occassionally slip back into vegetarianism. However, steamed vegetables are not for me. I come from a long line of French cajun-gourmet cooking and even wrote a cookbook "Southwestern Cooking, Vegetarian Style (A Taste of Taos A Touch of The Bayou)". I am currently working on another cookbook "International Cooking, Vegetarian Style". My "thing" is to take traditional cooking from different cultures and make it taste the same without the meat! I love soups and you will often find a large pot of soup simmering on the stove!
I spent 6 years traveling around Japan and working as a professional singer/songwriter. I would love to return there as a tourist. However, there are many places I have not been and would love to go to, such as India, China, Australia, and Peru. I would love to visit all those "mysterious places" where they have unexplainable crop circles and structures and see them for myself. I have fantasies of working for the Peace Corps and have actually checked into that possibility and have begun the application process.
I have very eclectic tastes, and enjoy all types of music, many different art forms, and a variety of books, movies and TV programs. I have an investigative and curious mind and enjoy reading books by Grisham, Kellerman, Cook and Connelly. but I also enjoy Jodi Picoult, Thich Nhat Hahn and Dalai Lama. My favorite TV programs include House, NCIS, The Closer, Numbers, and Chelsea Lately.
As a hostess your comfort and privacy are important to me. Blame that on my southern upbringing (Beaumont, Texas). I will love to visit with you, if you like and will be as accessible as you would like for me to be.
When you enter my home, you will see a beautiful stained glass window that was taken from a church in Rhode Island built in1685. There is a scripture on the bottom which reads "Their Works Do Follow Them". This is my motto. I believe our actions speak louder than our words and I try to live my life in such a way as to have no regrets regarding my actions. In yoga, one of the 8 paths to enlightenment is "Karma Yoga". Karma Yoga is "Selfless Service". The swami's will tell you that if you practice perfect Karma Yoga, you will never have to do anything else - no meditation, no asanas, no vegetarianism, no spiritual reading. Practicing Karma Yoga is believed to be what we are here for. You may be familiar with this in a different form, such as the "Golden Rule" - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Whether we donate our time or earn lots of money, as long as our actions are coming from the heart it is all good!
So welcome to my home - I hope your stay in our beautiful valley is a wonderful one!
