This place is absolutely perfect! The cottage is exactly as pictured/described: clean, cozy, and beachy. The moment you walk in, it smells of plumeria, and there is a glass of small orchids next to one of the two large windows. The constant amount of natural lighting is definitely the cherry on top. There's always a nice cross-breeze, and the window screens are properly stapled to insure no buggies get in! The compost toilet is convenient anytime you need to pee during your stay (especially in the middle of the night!). Plus, there's a bunch of little odds and ends: tea kettle, mini-fridge, silverware, yoga mat, sunscreens, fan, etc. to make your stay more comfortable. The bed is styles as a loft, and is extremely comfortable. The bright orange sheets are nice and go well with the wood interior. There is a light near the bed, too, if the overhead lights are too hot or too bright. There's a fantastic little outdoor shower a hundred feet or so from the cottage. The hot water wasn't working during my stay, but with such warm weather (and a pretty harsh sunburn), the cool water feels refreshing. The shower is equipped with shampoo and conditioner and a little rack to hang your clothes and towel. It's adequately built to insure your privacy. At night, you can hear the crickets and geckos chirping, which is great! NOTE: geckos are everywhere here, and they do get inside the cottage, don't be deterred by their presence (and their poo everywhere), just remember they're considered good luck and eat all the nasty buggies.
Maryna is SUPER sweet and incredibly friendly and helpful. She welcomed me to use their indoor bathroom at my leisure, plus she constantly checked to make sure everything was adequate. I met Marc briefly my last full day and too was incredibly friendly and immediately helpful answering my questions about the hike up to Nounou I was about to do...which is only a 10 minute walk from their house!
I enjoyed my stay VERY much and would love to stay here again on my next adventure to Kauai. Did I mention there's an avocado tree RIGHT outside the cottage?
Marina was a wonderful host. She was super helpful in every way. Her little garden cabin is beautifully tucked away in her home garden and we'll equipped with everything you will ever need. Marina also provided me with the best travel planner I have ever read and made my stay on this beautiful island even more special. Thank you Marina, I hope I have the chance to come back one day!
Communication was very good prior to the trip. I thought Marina was very friendly, but something didn't feel right about my experience because communication afterwards has been scant. What also doesn't add up to me is that I saw so many legitimate five star ratings. . When I arrived at night she greeted me. The place is clean and as advertised, Kappaa is a great central location. I was off put off though that when she introduced me to the place, she ran away stating "ok now I have to go because I hate roaches." I barely stayed the night and left the next morning, didn't hear back until trip dates ended and afterwards in a direct message to provide feedback and ask for a partial refund, I did not hear anything. The parts that don't add up to are the shower you have is actually in their home and she had said I can use it whenever bc she is always there. When she responded to my message about not staying anymore, she said she never received it and was not at home.
Hopefully a few miscommunications, but would babe liked more clarify. You are staying in a small hut a compost toilet so you should expect to be exposed to the outdoors (roaches are outdoors), but I definitely remain disappointed by the lack greeting to their hut and the spotty inconsistent communication afterwards.
Fantastic stay in Kauai! The in-law unit was cute and welcoming, with avocado tree right outdoors. You had to go inside to the main house to use the bathroom, but this wasn't a problem, as the house is not even 20 feet away. I'd highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a charming place in a good location that won't break the bank.
