This is the first house built at Timber Cove by the founder of Timber Cove Properties (Dick Clements) and served as the model showcase for what future Timber Cove development would look like. This rustic and rural house was designed and built by the same architect who designed and built the world famous Timber Cove Inn (one mile south). The house is a fairly large, lodge-style house which sits on two acres of private land surrounded by grassy meadows, the Timber Cove Creek, Redwoods and Pine trees. Walking distance to Highway One and the Pacific ocean, the picturesque house features a dramatic redwood construction and entire walls consisting of windows in almost every room. The living room is highlighted by a massive stone-lined walk in fireplace. An outdoor hot tub offers partial ocean views and the serenity of the Sonoma Coast.

The space

Beautiful house sits on two acres of private land making it quite and secluded. However, the house is well situated to nearby beaches, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, Highway One, Pacific Ocean, etc. Because of the abundance of windows in our house, and very little insulation, it can get cold in the winter and spring months and we have no central heating system. However, there is one large and efficient fire place in the Living Room and a Fisher wood burning stove in the Dining Room which warms the house. In addition, all the bedrooms have space heaters.

Guest access

In terms of accessing the house at check in (starting at 4 pm), the back door adjacent to the carport will be left unlocked and a copy of the key will left on the dining room table.

Interaction with guests

The host lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. We would not be in Timber Cove during our Guest's stay.

Place was nice....Hot Tub was nice which we used as well fireplace was amazing. The house is not set up for more than a couple since all the walls to not go to the ceiling so you can hear everything in the house. House has very limited lights so when we arrived at night was hard to see stuff. Location is great and so much to do.

We spent a perfect week at Timber Cove. This home is absolutely stunning...spacious and beautifully decorated. We had several memorable hikes along the coast line filled with breathtaking views and unwound in the evenings in the hot tub under the stars. We appreciated the host's phone call shortly after we arrived in California giving us directions and contact phone numbers in case we needed help or had questions. This place is a gem!

Great!!! Such a beautiful spot! Lots of seating and beautiful fireplace! It was cold at night but the heaters were perfect. Hot tub was amazing and had views of the ocean. Appliances are dated and it has some a very old cabin like feel that we loved but keep that in mind if you want something a bit fancier. Rooms have a great view of the forest. Overall wonderful! Would love to stay again!

This is a fantastic location. Nestled right off of the highway, and tucked behind an alcove of trees lays this little oasis. We stayed here for a weekend with the goal of relaxing and hiking. The building itself is an older architectural beauty. If you are interested in older Japanese architecture, this would be an excellent stay. This building has such charm, it feels as though you've stepped back into the late 70's complete with the outdoor jacuzzi. There are several beaches within half an hour of the house, and even one just up the road. We had the pleasure of hiking the Pygmy Forest Trail in Salt Point State Park one morning, which was extremely lovely. Almost better than the splendor of Salt Point State Park was coming back to the house and relaxing under the stars in the jacuzzi, followed by cocktails by the fireplace. There are two small grocery stores within 20 minutes driving, one to the north and one to the south. Both have the essentials you may have left behind. On our last day we skipped the cooking and headed to the Timber Cove Resort for lunch. Delicious food, although not so great if you have food restrictions. But the Bloody Mary's made up for the lack of vegetarian and gluten-free choices.

This amazing house is nestled amongst the trees right off Hwy 1. The view of the ocean through the trees was very beautiful through the huge windows -- I almost want to call them glass walls -- and the bed area was surrounded by windows giving the feeling of sleeping outdoors! The main area felt like a lodge, very spacious and wide open with a central fireplace. If you don't mind wearing warm clothes not being able to precisely control the temperature, then it's a fun place to build a fire to stay warm -- a little like indoor camping. The space is so large it's hard to keep "room temperature", but you're in the middle of nature! We were visited by deer, squirrels, chipmunks, banana slugs, Steller's Jays, and Juncos outside. No animal visitors inside. We did lots of yoga and meditation and good cooking in the well-equipped yet rustic kitchen. There's a small general store just a couple miles up the road to get odds and ends, but we stopped at Whole Foods in Santa Rosa to get all the produce and groceries we needed. Overall, it was a great experience for us. And the hot tub on the expansive wooden deck was clean and magnificent!

Mike, we are very pleased that your "wellness retreat" was a big success. Thank you for your kind remarks and glad that you saw many animals outside our house. Timber Cove and our house in particular is well suited for people like you who enjoy the serenity and beauty of the Sonoma Coast and the architectural uniqueness of our house. We hope to see you again soon! Regards, Michael B.

The hot tub and location are the only reason I would reccomend staying here. It has a very akward floor plan, dated decor and tiny kitchen. The beds are very comfortable despite being 20+ years old. The bathroom is horrible, messy calking around the tub and mildew smell. If this house was rennovated it could be really great but it seems with no one living there it is not being well cared for and just falling to the way side.

Response from Michael:
Thank you Maja for your review. We are pleased that you enjoyed both the location and the hot tub. We continually strive to upgrade our house and have renovated the kitchen, built a new deck around the hot tub, installed solar panels, and other items over the last 5 years. We are currently resurfacing and grading our driveway. The bed in the master bedroom is less than 5 years old and we will be replacing the bed in the living room with a newer California King sized bed. Hope you stay with us again. Regards, Michael B.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, currently work in Oakland, California and live in the East Bay, with my wife and 4.5 year old son. I work as a financial professional in Oakland's financial district.

Timber Cove is a very special place for me and my family and brings back many childhood memories when my family spent summers there. We know that you will enjoy our house and the beautiful Sonoma Coast as well.
