Description

The space

We have a unique home on 2 acres. We live sustainably. We love to garden, and raise chickens.

Guest access

We rent two private guest rooms and one private bathroom in the upstairs portion of our home. There is a doorway to close off the upstairs area for privacy.

The kitchen and living room are a shared space in the downstairs region of the home. Laundry room is available upon request.

Interaction with guests

Depending on the date(s) booked, we may or may not be present during your stay. Our rooms are in the downstairs region of the home and we have two young children. If this is a concern, please message us before booking.

The neighborhood

Lovely, rural neighborhood. Near the famous Farnum Hill Reserve and Poverty Lane Orchards.

Beautiful summer blooms, to die for Fall foliage, white, snowy Winters, and a moist, thawing Spring with running creek behind our house.

Getting around

The Upper Valley area has a modest public transit system called Advance Transit. It is free and I have heard that it is fairly good, but that it has a limited schedule and route. I have not utilized it myself and cannot speak first-hand about how good or bad it is. Unfortunately, it does not go to our neighborhood, but can be relied on if you are already in the towns of Lebanon and Hanover (on the New Hampshire side of the river), or White River Junction and Hartford (on the Vermont side of the river). More information on their routes and schedules can be found online.

Because the public transit does not go to our home, we recommend either a car rental, or utilizing the taxi service to get to our house. We are out and about quite a bit ourselves and should we be in a position to help you with a ride, we gladly will.

During the Spring, Summer and Fall, a rental car with front-wheel drive should be sufficient. However, the winter months make for difficult driving conditions. We strongly recommend all-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires. We do the best we can to keep the driveway clear should a bad snowstorm arise; however cars can still get stuck. If conditions are particularly bad and you do not have an all-wheel drive vehicle, we will recommend you park on the street and walk up to the house (our driveway is about 200 feet, or, 61 meters).

Other things to note

Two spacious rooms equipped with queen-sized beds with hypoallergenic foam pad & pillowcases. Extra sheets, towels, pillows, and blankets are provided. Air purifier if desired (stored in the closet), window A/C unit(s), as well as an ironing board and iron.

Kitchen has microwave, fridge, gas stove, cookware, dishes, and dishwasher.

We keep a variety of tea and coffee on hand for the guests. In the morning, guests are welcome to help themselves to whatever beverages we have (typically tea, coffee, or milk) and any other breakfast goodies (typically instant oatmeal or cereal, boiled eggs and fruit).

Kate and her family were very welcoming and accommodating. It was lovely to meet them. The rooms were spacious, neat and clean as was the bathroom. The location was convenient and easy to get to. I would recommend Kate's house to anyone traveling to the White River Junction area.

Kate warmly welcomed us into their lovely home on the day of our arrival. It is clean, cozy, peaceful and easy to get to. Kate was easily accessible to answer any questions before and during our stay. My family of 3 had the house to ourselves for the Dartmouth Graduation weekend. We had access to 2 spacious bedrooms on the 2nd floor and both bathrooms plus the Kitchen and Living Room. Returning to the house each night after a long day of activities was very relaxing. Thanks Kate & John!

Kate was a great host. She was very helpful and flexible regarding logistics. The house was perfect for the four of us. 'Cozy' under sells the house. Though not a large house, the bedrooms are ample and the living space is comfortable for four or more.

My wife and really enjoyed staying at this small homestead in the woods above Lebanon, NH. The bedroom was private with a private bath on the second floor. We slept with the window open over the bed and enjoyed the fresh woodsy scent. The only sounds we heard were birds in the woods. Before this experience, I don't think we've ever slept where there was almost complete silence in the night. We also enjoyed visiting with Kate and John, the owners, with whom we felt an instant bond as people who want to their own food in a sustainable manner. They are kind and caring, the perfect hosts. I wished that we could be neighbors.

We had an awesome stay with Kate and John and of course Sammy, on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being at the top, I rate them a 10. Excellent hosts. They made us feel right at home, I would stay there again if I ever go that direction. Thank you Kate and John.

Howdy! I am Kate, and together with my husband John, we run a quaint homestead-like lifestyle on 2-acres in Lebanon, NH. We are located about 15-30 minutes from Dartmouth College, depending on traffic. We have two children and live busy lives. I am working toward my doctoral degree in computer engineering and John is a nurse. We strive to live a sustainable lifestyle through growing our own food, raising chickens, composting food waste, recycling and living resourcefully. We love to travel and spend time in the great outdoors.
