Tucked into our sunny Rockridge garden, this light-filled modern casita is a peaceful retreat — 3 blocks from College Avenue’s cafés, restaurants, and shops.

Wake up to birds in the garden, sip coffee at the farmhouse table, and walk to BART for easy access to San Francisco, Berkeley, and downtown Oakland.

Awash in natural light, this modern guest room sits in our sunny backyard garden, with a lemon tree, seasonal flowers, and a large wood farm table for enjoying coffee or a meal outdoors.

This modern casita has its own private entrance and sits just behind our home. The space is bright and peaceful, with a small bar area that includes a mini-fridge, tea and coffee station (with French press), microwave, and sink — more of a kitchenette than a full kitchen, and not intended for serious cooking.

The bathroom is modern and luxurious, with radiant floor heating. The queen bed features a very comfortable, firm mattress, fresh linens, and a menu of pillows (down and non-down).

High-speed wifi is included.

We have traveled widely and stayed in many hotels, and designed this space to feel like a small five-star hotel experience: plush white towels, crisp linens, robes, floor heat in the bathroom, locally roasted coffee, and a few small treats.

The space is professionally cleaned after every stay. Our house cleaner is paid a fair wage, and the entire cleaning fee goes directly to her, along with paid sick time.

The casita is located on a quiet residential street just four blocks from public transit and within walking distance of the many cafés, restaurants, and shops of College Avenue.

We sit between two beloved Oakland neighborhoods — Rockridge and Temescal — both known for some of the best food in the Bay Area.

Despite being close to BART and freeway access, the casita feels peaceful and tucked away from the bustle.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the garden space, pick fresh lemons when they are in season, or relax in the sun.

Our washer/dryer inside the main house may be available upon request if coordinated with us.

Many guests say the casita feels like a tiny European courtyard tucked into the city.

✨ Please Note

☀️ Sunlight: The casita is filled with beautiful natural light. If you are very light-sensitive when sleeping, this may not be the ideal space, as mornings can be bright.

🧑‍🍳 Kitchen: There is no large stove, freezer, or ice maker. The mini-fridge and kitchenette are best suited for light meals and coffee. We do have: a microwave, a single induction stove for anyone needing to make an egg, and a toaster.

🐌 Garden setting: Because the casita sits in a California garden, the occasional ant, spider, or moth may appear. We do our best to keep things tidy, but nature sometimes visits.

Guest access
Guests enter through a private side gate into the back garden, where the casita has its own locked French-door entrance.

The casita is completely private and separate from the main house. While there is no access to the main house itself, we’re happy to make our washer and dryer available upon request if the timing works.

We ask for a 2-night minimum. We only accept 2-night reservations for weekends. For weekdays, we might be flexible on the minimum stay , so get in touch if you're in a bind!

We're a family of four plus a sweet dog. We love to garden, cook, hike, go to restaurants, and take our kids on fun trips. We love the outdoors - hiking, skiing, biking - so can point you to the best places to get outside and see big trees, gorgeous coastline and mountains just outside of Oakland. We've been in the Bay for 20 years. Rockridge is full of delicious restaurants and small businesses. We are also cooks and foodies - so we have great tips on the best food spots in the Bay Area.
