A "Mountain-Camp" reinterpreted towards Co-Living & Working. Formerly a haystack, today a magical retreat for groups up to 27 people. The lovely "dorming nests" smell of wood and offer a breathtaking view to the mountains. The 6 showers, toilets and washbasins create a hygge-flair with nostalgic tiles. The 6-meter-high "woodship", traversed by light tapes with open kitchen-fields and valuable tables make this retreat finally unique!

The space
Our retreat or CAMP is on more than 400 m² and delivers everything, what cabin aficionados dream of: in the roof floor 11 cute and intimate dorming rooms, called “nests” are equipped with natural mattresses for 27 persons (7 x 2, 3 x 3 and 1 x 4 beds). When stepping out of the nests, you find yourself in a 20-metre-long sanitary block with 6 showers, 6 toilets and 6 washbasins – all furnished with nostalgic tiles from Spain and Italy. Getting down via broad stairs you´ll amated by the generous kitchen landscape, fully equipped with enamel dishes hand-made in Austria and a long community table. Spatially connected is the huge “woodhip”, up to 6 meters high and on a 150m ² original wooden hallway, flexible and open for activities of all kinds. A separate access to the camp leads to storage areas for skis, bikes, etc. on the ground floor.
The whole building has been entirely refurbished in the year 2017 and provides a central pellets heating system added by a oven in the "woodship" for cosy moods.

Please note: in the same building there is an authentically renovated farmhouse CHALET for another 10 people also bookable via airbnb -

Where you’ll be

Steinberg am Rofan, Tirol, Austria

As we are located not far from one of the most active touristic regions in Tyrol, there is too less space here to describe all the opportunities - just search for ACHENSEE.

Our CAMP however is embedded in the tiny village of Steinberg am Rofan, close enough (15 min) to the vital Achensee but distant enough to retreat. In Steinberg all things are more reduced but rich of charm.
The ski facilities are 70s alike. Within walking distance, two bar-lifts and one baby-lift provide nostalgic ski-days, by the way with reasonable prices for families. A beautiful cross-country trail passes the Camp, approriate for classic style as well as for skaters. It´s fun for the whole group to sledge down the nice natural toboggan run in the village, also at night.
During the hiking season (any but winter) several trails lead you around the village and upwards the impressing mountain area. Most of those trails are as well suitable for longsome moutainbike tours. For the kids in some 100 meters there is a little playground with plenty of climbing facilities.
Self-catering ist fine but maybe not always. In such a case just visit the inn yard in the neighborhood or the two other ethnic restaurants in Steinberg.

This list should of course to be continued but we guess can stop now as the true highlight is still the stunning Retro-Chalet with it´s cosy surroundings.

It´s my true mission to save a 400y old farmhouse-ensemble in the Tyrolean mountains from unrecoverable ruin. The target is to develop an unique community retreat for both - leisure and work. In 2013 the first part of the three buildings has been carefully and authentically restored. We call it the "Retro-Chalet" and it´s co-living like the old farmers for 10 persons, of course more comfortable. BRANDNEW: in the same building, in 2017 we have developped the 400m² old haystack towards an outstanding "Mountain Retreat" for additionally 27 friends of Alpine lifestyle.***BMWFW + EU: With the support of Republic of Austria and European Union***
Since 2014 I have the honor to be an airbnb Superhost, which of course spurs me also in the future on offering to my guests an unforgettable stay in the breathtaking Austrian Alps.
