  • I absolutely LOVE this night shot that one of our guests took of the Trailside Treehouse. In the winter when the leaves fall from the trees, we can see a chain of car headlights as commuters come home from work. It's one of my favorite times of day because those lights through the trees are so beautiful to me--full of life and of getting home.

  • This is a shot of the treehouse in the morning. Notice how the fog is rising up from the river (which is located just past the trees). Richmond has some beautiful, foggy mornings on the river.
  • The Trailside Treehouse is situated in the heart of Richmond, Virginia--one of the most active communities on the East Coast--and in the entire country. The treehouse property includes 5 wooded acres, many of which have single-track trails on them, which are used as part of the James River Park System's network of 22 miles of single-track trail.
  • We put a SoloStove in the firepit to help reduce smoke so guests can relax more comfortably while they enjoy roasting hotdogs and marshmallows.
  • You'll wake up with a full view of the trees from your bed.
  • This is an amazing fall shot of the treehouse. Off in the distance is the river and Boulevard Bridge (Nickel Bridge). The treehouse is situated on 5 acres of woodland, some of which also has the James River Park System trail running through it. It's very private--in the center of Richmond, VA, right on the center of the East Coast!
  • This is the Trailside Treehouse, located in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. Richmond is located at about the center of the East Coast, making it a popular stopping spot for road trippers and adventurers from both north and south.
  • Here's a view of the full treehouse from the ground. Under the treehouse, you'll find a trapeze, climbing rope, disc swing, and other fun playground equipment for children.
  • Treehouse adventurers can enjoy their meals at their own picnic table! There are plenty of carryout and delivery restaurants nearby. Or, you can roast hot dogs in the firepit.
  • The climate in Richmond lends itself to excellent gardening. We have a few beds that guests pass on their way to the treehouse from the driveway.
  • The treehouse is situated at the top of a hill above Richmond's James River, so it feels like you're high up in the tree canopy!
  • Our guests are enjoying some peace and quiet at the firepit after a wonderful day exploring Richmond.
  • Relax with morning coffee or evening drinks and enjoy chatting about all the fun things you did in Richmond. Then, head to the treehouse to sleep amongst the tree canopy.
  • Enjoy some s'mores in the fire pit! S'mores are the perfect nightcap for kids and adults! And help to make your visit to Richmond extra-delicious. :)
  • This little 4 year old is so proud to be able to make her own hotdog dinner at the firepit.
  • Enjoy your lush surroundings from the deck of the treehouse. The deck is solar-powered with string lights, giving it a gorgeous, romantic ambiance at night.
  • Here's your view looking towards the James River. During the spring and summer months, you'll have near-total privacy in the trees (you'll be able to see our house, but that's it). As the leaves fall for autumn and winter months, you'll enjoy a small river view. Our home is one of the few homes in Richmond located on the river side of Riverside Drive in Richmond, Virginia. I think it's one of 11 total. That means you have rare access to the river and the trails without having to cross any streets to get there. It's literally a Trailside Treehouse.
  • Cant you just imagine swaying in this hammock? Richmond is located in the mid-Atlantic, so there can be lots of mosquitoes in the summer. That's why we love having the hammock swings on the screen porch of the treehouse.
  • Everyone needs a cozy spot for a break. This little 3 year old is having quiet time in the hammock swing. The treehouse has secure wifi, so stream your favorite shows, scout your adventure for the following day, or share your day's adventure on social media.
  • Is this the greatest place to relax in Richmond? The treehouse has two hammock swings on the bottom level. They can be stretched wide for sleeping!
  • Please take note of that pillow. Never grow up. Come to Richmond's Trailside Treehouse and fulfill those childhood dreams of running away and staying in a treehouse. :)
  • Here's a view of the desk located on the second floor of the treehouse. I chose a school desk because I want our guests to feel youthful and be reminded of what it was like to be full of wonder and curiosity. You can open or close the window. It's magical to have it open and feel surrounded by trees.
Imagine "working from home" at this little desk with that view of the trees. It's such a cozy spot--one of my favorite in all of Richmond.
  • We've added fun things to explore in every nook and cranny. You'll find books to inspire you, games to entertain you, and peace to relax you. The treehouse is all about revisiting childhood.
  • A guest also snapped this awesome shot. This is what your afternoon could look like as you relax in the treehouse. What a great way to spend a day in Richmond!
  • It's a bunkbed cot set up for two children. When it's not set up as a cot, it's set up as a sofa. It's such a cozy spot to read a book! In addition to the queen bed, guests can choose to have a bunkbed cot as well. This cot is set up for a 5 year old, complete with a drawing pad and markers. If guests don't ask for the cot, this cot is left as a sofa for lounging.
  • Here the sleeping area of the treehouse is set up for a 4 year old and 1 year old with a pack n play. You can see the queen bed, the bottom level of the cot, and the pack n play.
  • Here's a photo of the ladder you'll climb to get to the second floor. You'll also find a bucket with a pulley that you can use to help get your stuff to the sleeping quarters.
  • Here's another good view of the ladder hole with the cool window. The hatch closes right on top of the hole to keep you safe from nighttime falls and intruders. The entrance is about 24 inches across, so measure your waist if you're pregnant!
  • The treehouse comes with a small fridge, Keurig coffee maker (which also makes tea, hot chocolate, and hot cider--all available in the pull-out drawers beneath the Keurig), and a basket of snacks to enjoy. Plus, see all those books behind the tissue box? We've cultivated a collection of true treasures.
  • You'll have exclusive access to this indoor lounge area, which features a pull-out sofa, TV, large beanbag chair, full bathroom, and kitchenette.
  • Here's another view of the indoor lounge area. Escape the mid-Atlantic temperatures and enjoy a climate-controlled retreat during your treehouse adventure. If weather becomes too daunting, you're welcome to sleep on the pull-out sofa.
  • This is the new kitchenette, which features a sink, refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig. You can also find additional blankets, linens, towels, and amenities here.
  • Here's the shower of the private bathroom. Guests can expect shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap, and washcloths. We also stock toiletries under the sink, including toothpaste, tooth brushes, Q-tips, and other essentials that guests may have forgotten.
  • Treehouse guests have access to a brand new, totally private full bathroom with private entry to the host's house. The bathroom is located in our basement and you'll have access to the basement from the exterior of the house. You can the world's longest shower without feeling self-conscious!

  • Never grow up. We hope staying in the treehouse helps to reignite your childlike spirit. Plus, you'll enjoy being so close to the popular trails in Richmond, Virginia, where you can run and hike and play all day.
  • There are two Keurigs. One is located in the treehouse and the second is located in the indoor lounge area. Drink and be merry!
  • Wow! A treehouse guest--who is also an amazing Richmond photographer--took this photo of the vibrant fall leaves. This tunnel is illuminated at night and it leads to the trails. It's 16' long and a nice entree from the perfectly manicured landscaping around the house to the wild of the trail system. It feels a little like stepping through a warp of some sort from one world to another.
  • Rain or shine, day or night, there's always something fun to do in the treehouse after you explore Richmond.
  • A family of eagles lives about half a mile away down the river. They frequently fly over the treehouse. Get a better look with this telescope. Kidding. This is a play telescope. Kids love it!
  • The treehouse is great for birding! Bring your best binoculars (these are for play). We also provide a nicer set of binoculars for you to use if you forget your own.
  • Guests enjoy a private bathroom on the lower level of our home. Common toiletries are located under the sink for guests to use.
  • We greet every guest with a custom sign on the garage of the host house so you'll know you're in the right place! And it sets the tone for fun :)
  • Here's a view showing the proximity of the treehouse to the host house from the bottom of the slide. Your bathroom is just a short walk away to the host house.
  • Here's a view of the lights and lower deck from the second story deck of the treehouse. Bliss.
  • The roof is made of corrugated Corten steel, which is the same stuff bridges are made of. In the winter, the sun heats the steel and makes it hot to the touch, so it's like sleeping under a gigantic radiator.

This trail network features 22 miles of single-track trail and is some of the most celebrated trail in the country. • This is the private trail to the treehouse property. About 5 acres of the James River Park System is actually on the treehouse property, including about a mile of mountain biking and hiking trails.
  • This tunnel marks the main entrance from the treehouse to Richmond's trail system--one of the most celebrated trail systems on the East Coast. You have private access to the trail from two locations on the treehouse property. These two heads guarding the tunnel are our "trail heads." Roses grow over the tunnel in the summer months and lights adorn the tunnel year-round.
  • From the treehouse deck, you can watch as your children enjoy testing their skills on the "climbing trees" and playing on the swings. Just past these swings is the second entrance to Richmond's trail system from the treehouse.
  • This is our "climbing tree." It's two trees positioned closely together and bolted with climbing holds.
  • There is playground equipment under the treehouse as well. In addition to the green twisty slide, kids can also enjoy a climbing net, trapeze, spider swing, and hanging tent. Beyond here are the climbing trees and swings, which are set off in the woods slightly, but visible from the treehouse deck.
