This is more like a mini-resort than a just a room, and we have priced its rate to be an exceptional value.
The accommodations are totally independent and include a very roomy cabaña with its own living room area, a private bath, a partial kitchen, and a bedroom, all right next to a large swimming pool.
Sleeping accommodations include a queen size bed and one twin bed, which are in a quiet adjoining bedroom by the garden. We provide a computer with Internet access and a printer for you, with bookmarked pages of local attractions--or free wifi access if you bring your own devices. There is no "television," but there is a 47" widescreen TV with a DVD player. We offer a number of DVDs for you to borrow, plus there's also a Redbox kiosk for rentals less than a mile away.
We've just installed a new area for boules (pétanque), and you may appreciate that we heat the swimming pool with solar thermal panels and use solar photo-voltaic panels to generate electricity. (Because the pool is solar heated, water temperature is dependent on time of year and local weather conditions).
Please note that this unit is only available from March through mid-October. Also, it is not suitable for children under 16.
The independent unit is located on a pleasant 1/2 acre of gardened land. Our neighborhood is rural and tranquil, but also quite close to city amenities. Quite a special attraction are three nearby parks. All are within easy walking distance: the city's Howarth Park, the county's Spring Lake Park, and beautiful Annadel State Park. Depending on your time and inclination, you might enjoy a short walk through oak woods, a little longer stroll around one of the lakes, or as much as a full-day of hiking--all right outside the gate of your accommodations. Annadel State Park has dozens of well-marked trails; you could spend several days exploring its varied vistas. You're likely to see deer, geese, ducks, and wild turkeys, and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a fox or a bobcat. These same areas make for delightful runs, also.
Just 54 miles north of San Francisco, we are located in the heart of California's best “wine country." Some fine wineries are only a few minutes drive along Highway 12, which winds through the gorgeous and unforgettable Sonoma Valley. Other excellent Sonoma County appellations (e.g., Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, etc.) are just a short distance north. Heading west along the Russian River, Northern California's beautiful coast is only 25 miles away, and (certainly if you have time and have never experienced their majesty), some Redwood groves are not very far, either. It's a great area for photography!
Sonoma County is fabulous country for cycling, too! You may want to visit the website of the Santa Rosa Cycling Club to get an idea of the range of possibilities awaiting you here. Check out their ride archive, for instance, which details a range of rides leaving from nearby Howarth Park. The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition website also provides a variety of enjoyable cycling options. (We have printed copies of the maps and directions for a number of these local adventures for you, as well as information about local bike rentals. Our favorite local bike rental for quality, service, and price can't be shown on the airbnb website, but we'll let you know about it as soon as you make a reservation, if you're so inclined.
After you've enjoyed visiting some charming local wineries and have savored their fine wines, or after you've taken in some of the local natural beauty, you'll experience additional pleasure relaxing by the beautiful swimming pool. Then it will be time for dinner in one of the many great local restaurants. We'll be glad to make some recommendations, depending on your favorite cuisine, your budget for the day, or your mood. There is quite a range from which to choose, with some good restaurants literally within walking distance, and many others just a short drive away.
Finally, you'll sleep undisturbed under a comforter on a comfortable mattress, and you'll awaken to a delicious continental breakfast (with fruit, juice, coffee or tea, and home-baked goodies)--ready to enjoy another great day in Sonoma County, or already making plans for your return trip!
Guests may use the pool and adjoining area only if they are accomplished swimmers and accept full personal responsibility for inherent water risks.
Interaction with Guests
As world travelers ourselves, we enjoy meeting guests from many different places, and we're pleased to provide help and advice whenever requested. Also, we understand and respect our guests' need for solitude, privacy, and their own personal space.
One of the best things about this quiet neighborhood is its simultaneous proximity to several wonderful parks and to downtown Santa Rosa (as well as being centrally located for enjoying all of the county's attractions). It feels like you are far away in the countryside, yet you are literally only minutes away from all amenities.
Unfortunately, there is no convenient public transit in this area. A car is a necessity.

We had a fantastic experience. Robert and Candice's house is in a great neighborhood, great central location, and the backyard and Cabana area is beautiful. We had a stocked fridge upon arrival with breakfast options and delicious baked treats were delivered each morning. The cabana is much bigger than anticipated and clean and bright.
They were very responsive before and during our stay. We had most of our questions answered before we showed up. It was a great experience that we would gladly do again.
Excellent location when visiting Sonoma area. Very clean and comfortable Cabana. The homemade breakfast treats were fantastic.
The cabana was the perfect place for a Santa Rosa stay! It is located in a very peaceful neighborhood bordering a large park (with beautiful hiking trails) and the livingroom looks out onto the pool and their lovely garden. It is close to town, but far enough that you feel like you are really getting away. My friend and I both came away feeling extremely well rested because of the comfortable beds and quiet nights. If you haven't planned all of your activities ahead, Robert and Candice also have a binder of suggestions. I'm sure I will be staying there again.
This was my first airbnb experience. The accommodations were exactly what I expected. The cool March weather kept us from the pool, however we did make use of the fireplace. We felt we had all the privacy we needed, and the back yard was beautiful. I would stay here again, and both my son and I would recommend this airbnb.
The Cabana by the Pool was everything we could have hoped for and more--the kindness and great recommendations of Robert and Candice (not to mention the delicious baked treats!) were perfectly balanced with the privacy created through the separate space. If we are ever fortune enough to make it back to Santa Rosa, this would be on the top of our "to-stay" list.
We had the loveliest time here. Robert and Candice have thought of everything from first aid kits to pool towels. They had so many area guides for us to peruse and a whole filing system of information about vineyards, including passes for free tastings! Every day they left us some freshly-baked, delicious goodie. I would say that less than half of my airbnb hosts have provided breakfast for me, but Robert and Candice really went the distance with yogurts, cereal, milk, orange juice, coffee... their small touches made us feel so well attended to and quite comfortable. The location can't be beat - we rented a car and were able to quickly drive to dozens of appealing parks, restaurants, wineries, and lots of other places of interest.
Robert is a retired school principal, and Candice is a clinical laboratory scientist. Among other interests, we both like to hike, swim, read, cycle, run, travel,dance--and we love living in beautiful Sonoma County.
