This is more like a mini-resort than a just a room, and we have priced its rate to be an exceptional value.
The accommodations are totally independent and include a very roomy cabaña with its own living room area, a private bath, a partial kitchen, and a bedroom, all right next to a large swimming pool.
Sleeping accommodations include a queen size bed and one twin bed, which are in a quiet adjoining bedroom by the garden. We provide a computer with Internet access and a printer for you, with bookmarked pages of local attractions--or free wifi access if you bring your own devices. There is no "television," but there is a 47" widescreen TV with a DVD player. We offer a number of DVDs for you to borrow, plus there's also a Redbox kiosk for rentals less than a mile away.
We've just installed a new area for boules (pétanque), and you may appreciate that we heat the swimming pool with solar thermal panels and use solar photo-voltaic panels to generate electricity. (Because the pool is solar heated, water temperature is dependent on time of year and local weather conditions).
Please note that this unit is only available from March through mid-October. Also, it is not suitable for children under 16.
The independent unit is located on a pleasant 1/2 acre of gardened land. Our neighborhood is rural and tranquil, but also quite close to city amenities. Quite a special attraction are three nearby parks. All are within easy walking distance: the city's Howarth Park, the county's Spring Lake Park, and beautiful Annadel State Park. Depending on your time and inclination, you might enjoy a short walk through oak woods, a little longer stroll around one of the lakes, or as much as a full-day of hiking--all right outside the gate of your accommodations. Annadel State Park has dozens of well-marked trails; you could spend several days exploring its varied vistas. You're likely to see deer, geese, ducks, and wild turkeys, and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a fox or a bobcat. These same areas make for delightful runs, also.
Just 54 miles north of San Francisco, we are located in the heart of California's best “wine country." Some fine wineries are only a few minutes drive along Highway 12, which winds through the gorgeous and unforgettable Sonoma Valley. Other excellent Sonoma County appellations (e.g., Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, etc.) are just a short distance north. Heading west along the Russian River, Northern California's beautiful coast is only 25 miles away, and (certainly if you have time and have never experienced their majesty), some Redwood groves are not very far, either. It's a great area for photography!
Sonoma County is fabulous country for cycling, too! You may want to visit the website of the Santa Rosa Cycling Club to get an idea of the range of possibilities awaiting you here. Check out their ride archive, for instance, which details a range of rides leaving from nearby Howarth Park. The Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition website also provides a variety of enjoyable cycling options. (We have printed copies of the maps and directions for a number of these local adventures for you, as well as information about local bike rentals. Our favorite local bike rental for quality, service, and price can't be shown on the airbnb website, but we'll let you know about it as soon as you make a reservation, if you're so inclined.
After you've enjoyed visiting some charming local wineries and have savored their fine wines, or after you've taken in some of the local natural beauty, you'll experience additional pleasure relaxing by the beautiful swimming pool. Then it will be time for dinner in one of the many great local restaurants. We'll be glad to make some recommendations, depending on your favorite cuisine, your budget for the day, or your mood. There is quite a range from which to choose, with some good restaurants literally within walking distance, and many others just a short drive away.
Finally, you'll sleep undisturbed under a comforter on a comfortable mattress, and you'll awaken to a delicious continental breakfast (with fruit, juice, coffee or tea, and home-baked goodies)--ready to enjoy another great day in Sonoma County, or already making plans for your return trip!
Guests may use the pool and adjoining area only if they are accomplished swimmers and accept full personal responsibility for inherent water risks.
As world travelers ourselves, we enjoy meeting guests from many different places, and we're pleased to provide help and advice whenever requested. Also, we understand and respect our guests' need for solitude, privacy, and their own personal space.
One of the best things about this quiet neighborhood is its simultaneous proximity to several wonderful parks and to downtown Santa Rosa (as well as being centrally located for enjoying all of the county's attractions). It feels like you are far away in the countryside, yet you are literally only minutes away from all amenities.
Unfortunately, there is no convenient public transit in this area. Cars (or better yet, bicycles) are a necessity.

The cabana is adorable! Nestled next to their beautiful back yard and pool, this place is great. My favorite was waking up to find the fresh baked goodies each morning. It made me feel like a fairy baker was visiting us each day.
My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at Candice and Robert's cabana and had a wonderful time. The cabana was spotless, spacious and the breakfast was delicious (Candice is a wonderful baker!). We found the location to be convenient to everything we had planned and because it's a residential area, it was nice and quiet. We would definitely stay here again.
Our stay at Robert & Candice's cabana was so wonderful! It was our first Air BnB experience & they definitely set the bar high for our future travels!
Thank you so much for your hospitality! We loved every moment of our visit.
We stayed in Robert & Candice's cabana for 3 days while visiting family. They were friendly and helpful, yet gave us our privacy. The cabana was very spacious, clean and quiet and it's in a great location, adjacent to Annadel State Park where we walked every evening. The kitchen & mini-fridge were well stocked with continental breakfast items for us including fresh banana bread daily.
The cabana was nice with a good amount of room for two people. We did not use the pool but it appeared well maintained, as well as the surrounding garden area.
Giving this four stars considering the price - with that price I'd prefer a kitchen and more privacy (open windows in the front room face the pool and their patio), but this area is overpriced in general.
Another peaceful and relaxing stay at the Cabana. Robert was a terrific and gracious bike route planner for us - so many wonderful rides we'll have to come back to take advantage of the area by bike.
I recommend staying here and I look forward to whenever we visit the area again, because we would stay here again in a heartbeat. It's just as advertised, very clean, easy to get to and the pool and continental breakfast are just added bonuses in my opinion. Robert and Candice are very nice and accommodating hosts. They respond quickly to any questions/requests.
Great location, short drive to Sonoma Valley. Spacious, very comfortable pool house. Wonderful breakfast, the zucchini bread was delicious !
Thanks to Candice and Robert, my yearly pilgrimage to the
Cabana this extended weekend was an oasis of calm with a delightful garden and pool at my feet and with spacious interiors
for me to cocoon and rejuvenate.
Within a 30 minute drive to the town of Sonoma, our daughter
joined me at the Girl and the Fig for a delectable, leisurely dinner
to catch up and celebrate the arrival of her second child!
Again, many thanks Robert and Candice for your warm hospitality
over the years!
