Rustic cabin, built in 1901, now being lovingly nuzzled back to beauty. Spacious and cozy, woodsy and bright, two bedrooms and two lofts and two big porches overlooking the Russian River Valley. A five-minute walk from the river, a five-minute drive from a bunch of wineries, and twenty-five minutes from the unbelievable Sonoma coast.
No internet. No TV. No phone. Yes hummingbirds and the occasional deer. Amenities include plenty of good books, a not-so-good record player, a harmonica, a propane grill on the deck, and a wood-burning stove with plenty of firewood.
Other Things to Note
-For weekends, there's generally a two-night minimum.
-The sleeping spots are: a queen-sized bed in the master bedroom; a two-person sleeping loft at the top of a ladder; a twin mattress that can be on the floor of the study; and plenty of deck space for sleeping under the stars.
-Disclaimer: The place is a hundred years old and the renovation is still a work-in-progress, so there are still some quirks and rough edges: the kitchen table wobbles, the refrigerator is a mini-fridge, the half-bathroom door doesn't latch, etc. If things like that sound like "rustic charm," this house is for you; if they sound like offensive hazards, probably not.
If for some reason you move any furniture, please move it back before you leave.
Please wash any dishes, pans, etc.
The home is eclectically decorated. Eli has good taste, including music--neat vinyl--and books. The second bedroom did not have a bed. It's a study. The loft has little headroom, so our 6'3" son and his GF had to take the mattress down from there and sleep on the floor in the "study". There's traffic noise from the nearby highway. It's not loud but was more than I expected in an otherwise bucolic setting.
We enjoyed the living space, particularly the glass front stove, but I would not recommend the home for four adults.
Beautiful place, and the whole process super-smooth. Going for a walk down to the river is very nice.
We had a small girls weekend at Eli's rustic cabin and really enjoyed it. The patio has some great morning views of the rising fog and the record collection kept as entertained all evening. All in all we had a lovely time near the river.
I am originally from Sonoma county and now live in Australia with my Aussie husband and Son, we chose to rent a house for our recent visit to my roots so that we would have our own space and could unplug and relax and that's exactly what we did! The views from the "Fancy Shanty" (our endearing name for Eli's home) were gorgeous! We spent mornings watching the fog roll through the Russian River Valley while a multitude of bird life glided past the picture windows! If you are looking for a place to escape the hustle and bustle this is it, books, records and quite a few cozy corners to hide yourself in. I adored this house, which is quirky and clearly a work in progress but we loved working it all out. Eli was an amazing host, easy to reach and was extremely accommodating! I would recommend him and the "Fancy Shanty" 100%
Thank you again Eli!
The little cottage that could! Always a pleasure to stay in Eli's place!
We enjoyed our stay. Perfect weather and a nice place to enjoy it. Easy to get in. Great communication. Location is great. Loved the records & books. The ladder to the loft was a bit dicey (rungs are far apart and on an angle + nails poking out at top) and the bodum has a leak. Great stay otherwise.
Brilliant. Simply a delightful space. We left all electronics at home and found Eli's vinyls to be the perfect escape. The place had everything we needed to cook all meal ourselves; well stocked.
Delightful AM views of the foggy forest from the bedroom window. Loved the decor too. Pink animal skin rugs ftw.
Only minus - stock new wood! Whatever you have piled up isn't very suitable. Invest in firewood - not just wood!
