About this listing
Enjoy a calm and tranquil stay in a private room at Fair Haven Farmacy, a unique urban farm experience in Fair Haven, a New Haven neighborhood right on the banks of the Quinnipiac River. Cozy room sleeps two, shared full bath right across hall.
You will have peace and quiet in a sun-filled house and private room that overlooks the backyard/garden area of the house. Room is also used for meditation and has good vibes. The house is small so just saying that quiet tones of voice are very much appreciated late at night. I welcome seasoned travelers and students, anyone who is curious and wants to have an interesting experience while they pass through our town.
You have access to the kitchen, dining room, living room and bathrooms. Nice yard with garden and firepit for bonfire nights in cool weather. Coffee and tea provided.
Interaction with Guests
I really enjoy meeting people and have been renting out space in my home for 20 years since I lived in Memphis, Tennessee and then New York City. Am always open for conversation or glass of wine, tea or plain ol' water!
Cozy house situated in the historic area of Fair Haven right on the banks of the Quinnipiac River. Old fashioned neighborhood, where community comes first. I love this neighborhood for so many reasons and I hope you do too. It's unlike any other area in New Haven.
Fair Haven is 2 miles east of the New Haven Green. Public transportation from downtown is available. The Q bus will drop you off right at the corner, D bus is a few blocks away. Downtown New Haven is ten minutes from the house by car. Easy access to 91 and 95.
Other Things to Note
We are right up the street from the Quinnipiac River where wild parrots now live...many birds to watch! We are very close to a marina and there is a lovely Boat House Cafe open for breakfast and lunch within easy walking distance. Shopping on Grand Avenue at CTown. Elm City Market offers organic and natural foods on Chapel Street downtown. There is a great wine store across the Grand Avenue bridge called Grand Vin. Lovely River park down the street for fabulous views of the river and homes. Neighbors are friendly and we have a neighborhood association called Chatham Square where we continue to improve the area and build relationships. Unique place to live.
Check in is between 5pm and 10pm, arrival beyond that must be agreed upon prior to booking. Check out is 12pm. I just ask that you be respectful and not too loud especially after 10pm. Cable TV is available but prefer not too much TV. I invite you to enjoy the neighborhood and we can have meals together if interested, just let me know.
Melissa is very nice! Although it is a little far from the downtown, it is a very nice place. Melissa helped me to call a taxi and allowed me to check out later because of my poor alarm. Thank you.
Melissa was a great host! Her house and the room were clean, comfortable and peaceful. She made us feel completely at home. We enjoyed our stay there and are happy to recommend Melissa's place to fellow Airbnb'ers!
Melissa was an absolutely awesome host. If you're looking for someone who is genuinely down to earth, look no further. The bedroom was warm and inviting, and the bed was comfortable too! If you're looking to stay in a quiet neighborhood, in a convenient location, and hosted by someone great, then this is your place.
Melissa was extremely welcoming. She even picked me up at the train station. Her simplicity and kindness will make your stay perfect. Also perfect for foreigners who, like me, come discover the US for the first time.
Melissa's home is very comfortable and cozy. Her neighborhood is quiet and my stay was very peaceful. The guest bedroom felt like a retreat space.Melissa is friendly and outgoing and generously offered breakfast food on all of my days there. She has a large, older Chow named Harry, who is a sweetie.
My very first time staying with an AirB&B host.. is a Good one!! Thanks Melissa, for your beautiful, calm, clean, comfy home, for your intelligent and informative conversations, .. for a good bed with a spacious room & WiFi, .. and a sweet (as everyone says) doggie named Harry ~ who was always available for pets but didn't intrude on my little space at all, .. for a trusting environment, .. and good access to places I need to go .. buses too ! Thanks Melissa and AirB&B! ;)

We stayed at Melissa's house for a month. By the time we left we felt like family. She is very easy going and loves to share her life and her dog, Harry, with others. The house is near the river, providing a very picturesque walking experience. My time there was peaceful and enriching, learning about the New Haven community. I brought my bike, so was able to ride it or walk to my yoga class about 10 blocks away. We shared lots of laughter and connected on a deeper level. I would definitely come back.

About the Host, Melissa
I am into sustainable food and urban farms. I moved to Fair Haven to work with the kids in this neighborhood at a school garden down the street. I believe that growing food is a way for kids to learn about self-reliance and just eating better.
I am a former TV/radio producer from New York City. Used to live in Brooklyn Heights. But really I am from Chicago, the heart of the Midwest. I was raised on corn and steak. And really good tomatoes.
I really love music, as Lou Reed once said, "her life was saved by rock and roll." That is me.
I think Fairhaven is one of the best communities to live in hands down, the people here are genuine and hard working and they have a real community consciousness here that doesn't exist in many places. I love it here and am proud to call it my home.
