Ever want to experience "tiny home" living? The Bird's Nest is a comfy, cozy attic space turned into an apartment! The ceilings range from 6 ft 5", dipping lower at the roof lines. The Nest has a private entrance on the side of the home. The space is exactly 1 mile from the downtown riverwalk, 8 miles from Wrightsville Beach, and in the center of the inner-city/downtown area. The historic Market Street is two blocks over, which heads both downtown and to the beach.

The space
Over 6 ft tall? You're welcome, but we don't recommend!

Your attic guesthouse includes two bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen. The space is 550 square feet and has been designed to comfortably live in, but has low ceiling height in areas, matching the roof line.

Do not be blindsided by this when booking. If you are 6 feet tall, you are more than welcome at The Nest, but we cannot guarantee you won't bump your head!

Access to the Nest is located on the side of the home with a private stairwell that is located next to the shared driveway.

The cozy feel is what makes the Bird's Nest such a special place and a great place to retreat, hence it's name! If you are tall and want lots of space to stretch out, this isn't the place for you (again, edges of attic are lower, where we have provided more living space room) but we welcome anyone. It's an experience because there isn't a place like it around!

With the tiny home movement becoming more and more popular, this is a fun place to "test" out if you've ever wondered what it would be like to live in such a way!

The nest is located just a few blocks from The Children's Museum of Wilmington and sandwiched between a high school and middle school. There is a Presbyterian Church and school parking lot adjacent to the home and in the fall, high school band members often practice with their instruments in the parking lot after school. It is located in inner-city Wilmington. During school days, you might notice school children walking to and from school at arrival and dismissal times. Diversity within the community in which The Bird's Nest is located is something we find beautiful, with people from all walks of life. If you do not like city living, this is not the Airbnb for you.

It is possible that there will be more noise on weekends than there typically is on weekdays.

The main bedroom has a queen size bed with a TV, window AC unit with remote, nightstands, portable fan, portable heater, wooden rocker, Bluetooth speaker, radio, alarm clock, and full dresser with two drawer areas designated for guests to put clothing if they so wish. (Morning Dove Room)

The second bedroom has a twin size bed, fold out full mattress under the bed for extra guests, closet space, bench ottoman with extra blankets, bookshelf with multiple genres of reading material, window AC unit, refrigerator and freezer, and a desk for laptops or desk work. (Oriole Room)

The bathroom has a quaint, gorgeous walk-in tiled shower with a custom crafted stain glass window. There is a built-in medicine cabinet, a blow dryer, towels, and extra toiletries for items you may have forgotten.

The living room has a fold out futon to sit at while enjoying one of the many DVDs available for viewing or watching a feature on the Netflix account set up for guests. The TV also has a few basic television channels. There are a variety of games to play, located in the TV stand, such as Guess Who? and Sequence to Wilmington Monopoly.

The kitchen area has a mini fridge, two top burner stove, convection toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, coffee filters, French press, knife set, fully stocked silverware/plates/cups/bowls/pots cabinet, kitchen timer, cooking spray, sugar, salt/pepper, bar with two stools, and more.

Where you’ll be

Wilmington, North Carolina, United States

The guesthouse is one mile from the historic downtown riverwalk located on the Cape Fear, and is located a block from New Hanover High School, in inner-city Wilmington. It is a diverse, ever changing neighborhood with lots to do within walking distance or a short drive.

We are three blocks from a great place to get your morning coffee --- The Roastery or grab breakfast 2 blocks away--- Folk's Cafe---!

It is usually quiet, but it is not guaranteed to always be. If you're wanting to be guaranteed a noise free getaway, The Nest isn't for ya.

Take a walk on historic Market Street just yards from the nest to see many historic homes or head down Dock Street towards Carolina Place Neighborhood and get lost looking at all of the unique homes!

There is a Gas Station, Family Dollar, Children's Museum, popular neighborhood restaurant "Folk's Cafe", The Roastery- an incredible coffee shop 3 blocks away, The Metro Closet Consignment Shop 3 blocks away, and a kids' playground (Robert Strange Park) within blocks of the Nest.

As mentioned previously, the Nest is located in Inner-City Wilmington so you will see people from all walks of life, it's city life! If you feel uncomfortable with that, again, this is not the airbnb for you.

I am a devoted husband and father to a little boy (12-9-19), a spirited rescue hound, Myles, as well as cat, Azalea. Our family loves to camp, travel, hike, and bicycle. Anything outdoors, we're there. My wife is a local school teacher (now on break for baby) at a middle school a few blocks away and also volunteers her time as her school's Trailblazer Running Team coach. She is also an avid runner. I work as a videographer. Together we own Pierce Productions, a videography and photography business. We love capturing what's most important to others! I also opened a vintage video game lounge just blocks away from our place. We are at 1123 Princess Street, called "Retroscape". We have video games from the 70s-2000s, gamer grub, knick knacks, and vintage clothing. Come on in and I will give you some free play time!!! We have completely renovated our quaint, cozy, and private upstairs apartment area (bird's nest) and downstairs room (zen den) and are happy to offer it to those visiting the beautiful city of Wilmington and surrounding areas. We see ourselves as very accommodating hosts, but never nosy. If you need us, we are there, and if you want your space, we totally dig it!
