You will have the entire lower floor of my house. You have your own entrance-there is no inter-floor connection to the upper floor where I live.
The lower floor has a kitchen, living room, bathroom and a bedroom with a covered deck looking out on the redwoods and Russian River from your hammock.
Please note that the apt. is in two sections separated by the covered deck which is like a large open air living room.
The bedroom is at one end of the deck and the kitchen, bathroom and small living room are at the opposite end.
The bathroom is off of the kitchen.
The entire floor has views of redwoods and hills across the river. It is a unique space and very beautiful but is probably not the spot to stay if you are looking for a cookie-cutter hotel experience.
Wi-Fi is throughout the unit. Large flat screen TV and a CD player are in the bedroom. IPod dock in the living room.
The apt. Is only suitable for a maximum of two guests and is not suitable for children.
The hot tub deck is just steps from the bedroom and is available for your use.
There is a 3 car parking deck so you will have your own parking place. The house is one mile from River Road--the main highway from US 101 freeway to the coast.
It is very quiet and is on a private dead-end single lane dirt road that is wonderful to walk on.
Everything you would want to see in Sonoma county is close at hand. Wineries, restaurants, beaches are all 20 minutes away.
Check-in starts at 3pm. It would be best if you arrive no later then 8pm. Check-out is at noon.
Interaction with Guests
I am always happy to share any tips on restaurants or any other things in the area that you might want to know. Please don't hesitate to ask for any advice. I am usually around but like to give my guests total privacy.
Other Things to Note
Please make a copy of the detailed directions.
Please do NOT use your GPS instead of the directions. It will send you to a washout and you won't know how to find the house!
***Only Peaceful, Responsible, Clean, and Respectful people need respond.***
No smoking except outside on the decks. Sorry no pets.
I don't wear shoes inside the house. I am not making it a rule but only ask that you try it.
This is a rural area--the house is on a septic system. Do not flush any manufactured item other then toilet paper.
Please keep your recyclables separated from your trash. I can give you a separate bag for them if you like.
Again this is a rural area. Sound carries easily. Please be respectful of the neighbors and do not use the hot tub after 10 PM.
Gregory's house is a lovely retreat nestled up on a redwood hillside. The lower floor which he rents out is clean, comfortable, and blessed with lovely views out into the woods. He was waiting for us on our arrival and made us feel very comfortable and welcome, making sure that we had everything we needed.
Staying at Gregory's place was a great experience. The setting is beautiful, the house sits amongst the trees and the lower floor feels very peaceful and private. Gregory is a really nice, thoughtful and attentive host. He is there if needed but also gives you all the space you need to enjoy your time there. I would highly recommend staying here.
It was such a lovely stay at Gregory's house. It is simply beautiful, making you feel like staying in the forest! Great view great amnesties and great hospitality from the host! We enjoyed the stay very much. It is a quiet get away to the nature and away from city life for us. Loved the beautiful decors in the house! Some really cool Asian arts and the little garden is sooooo cute!!!! And the hot tub is definitely relaxing after hiking for a day.
Gregory's place was exactly as depicted in the pictures. The views are spectacular! As mentioned before in other statements, follow the instructions on his page and do drive slow, there are some sharp turns on steep curves, which is all part of the appeal of the place. The deck from the apartment is absolutely magnificent, and the hot tub is also really nice. We only saw Gregory a few brief times, but he was super friendly and had maps available to help us. He also had recommendations for places to eat and taste wine. I do agree with a previous reviewer that the decor can be a little risque, but I think it's a culmination of his travels and his interest in sharing with his guests. The bed and pillows were a little uncomfortable for my husband and I, but everyone is different. Being a chef the kitchen was limited, but I knew that coming into his place and didn't have an issue with it. Also, I think because of it's location on the hill with trees swing back and forth it was very dusty, but you're in the woods!
Gregory was an excellent host and certainly went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. His place was exactly as listed/described in the post. highly recommend a nap on the hammock after a long run in the forest hills. A great, cozy place to stay when you're visiting wine country.
Gregory greeted us as we pulled up and we could tell immediately that we were at a special place. Gregory was very friendly and helpful in showing us the space and gave some recommendations for dinner that turned out to amazing! We had complete privacy though he was around when we had questions. The house was exactly what we were looking for - peace and quiet, redwoods and relaxation surrounded by some excellent food and wine options. The hot tub and hammock were absolutely wonderful!
The house itself is a few miles from the main road on some twisty single lane roads that get steep in some places and do have some potholes. Take it slow and it's not a problem. Even with that it's conveniently located to some prime river spots, dining, wine and one of the best hikes we've ever done (Armstrong Redwoods). It's the lower half of a two story with the bedroom separated from the kitchen/bathroom by an outdoor living room with some couches and a hammock overlooking the redwoods. The house is surrounded by a wonderful garden with a very nice aesthetic. It's exactly what you see in the pictures! There's a bit of road noise during the day from River Rd, but the mornings and evenings were extremely peaceful. Gregory provides a a coffee mill, french press, wine opener and wine glasses and both served us very well in the hammock and the hot tub!
In the interest of full disclosure there were only two things that were at all short of great: The kitchen is limited in counter space, burners (2) and equipment so getting gourmet or fancy with cooking isn't recommended, though the basics are there. Also the bed was too firm for our liking (though the electric blanket was perfect in the chilly morning). Also just a note, but a few aspects of the decor were a little risque for kids or the easily offended.
All in all it was a wonderful weekend and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. There's something magical about the redwoods and it's definitely a wonderful retreat from the hectic city.
Greg was a gracious and warm host. He gave great restaurant decorations and was not intrusive at all during our stay. Great hospitality! Place was cozy and a nice retreat!
