The perfect way to combine nature and relax, just 30 minutes drive from Rome, 5 minutes from Rainbow Magic Land ((website hidden)) and the Fashion District Outlet ((website hidden)).
Immersed in the quiet of the Roman countryside, in a lovely location, Artena is a small, old village with the Europe’s largest pedestrianized historical center and it is famous for its cluster of houses set in the rock.
In the Middle Ages it was a fief of various Roman baronal families, such as the Colonna, the Orsini and the Borghese. On the mountain (600 m) above the village are the fine remains of the fortifications of a city built in the 6th or 5th century BC.
The house, originally a monastery, built in 1700 a.C. in a typical tower shape, can host up to 13 people.
The house has two floors. The first floor has a large entrance hall, a big living room with fireplace, a comfortable sofa and a TV. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the facilities. In the same floor there is a big bathroom and two bedrooms. The second floor has three bedrooms, a kitchen with fireplace and another big bathroom.
The property includes an exterior covered wooden gazebo, a terrace on the ground floor and a large garden with a shed.
50 euro for the final cleaning are required at your arrival.
Marco is a very nice host, responds quick by email and sms and he is very helpful. The house has large rooms and is very nice for bigger groups and two or three families. The kitchen is modern and has the most of facilities. The only thing missing is maybe wifi, but then again it is good for the kids not always to be online :-)
Recommend this place for a stay during visiting Rome.
We absolutely loved this spacious and beautiful monastery in a beautiful setting! The charming home and grounds contain an enticing history which begs to be explored. We especially enjoyed the breathtaking views of the medieval hilltown from the bedroom balcony upstairs. The house contained many clean and pretty bedrooms as well as comfortable family room areas and two well-stocked kitchens. The host was also very gracious and accommodating even when we were delayed several hours on the day of our arrival. It also was a convenient base for exploring around Rome and areas to the north and south as well.
We - two families with kids spent one week in Marco house. House is in nice place, you can visit Artena, nice town on the hill by walk. House is well equipped in quite place. Host is nice person ready to help. My rating is very positive.
We really had a lovely week in Marco's house. We are currently working and living in Rome for half a year, and needed a big house for all our kids + partners who came over for a week of holidays together. The house is really big with plenty of facilities for 10 people, big bedrooms, two bathrooms, two kitchens and a big living room. The house is 200 metres off the road between Valmontone and Artena which creates a lot of privacy. The views from the terrace are stunning with green meadows and hills around, and mountains with snow in the distance, and Artena as a sort of Helm's Deep (Lord of the Rings) built against the slope of a hill. Marco arranged everything perfectly, and Rome is easy to reach also by public traffic, since there is a train connection (35 - 45 minutes) between Valmontone and Roma termini. Although the weather was not that good during our holidays we really enjoyed our stay! There is no WIFI in the house, so internet addicts should either refrain from internet and mail for a week and really relax, or arrange something themselves
