This 1947 caboose was renovated in 2002 & sits just 10 miles from downtown Asheville. It has all the comforts of home with a queen size bed, a bistro dining set, full size sofa bed, a full kitchen, large jetted tub, a glassed stand up shower & tons of charm.

The backyard has recently been updated with a rock terrace, firepit, hot tub & lawn games. Lots of cool original touches too like converted oil lamps!

Also open to doing a beer swap if you’d like a 6 or 12-pack waiting for you!

The space
There are stairs leading up to the front door and the rest of the house is on one level. Full kitchen has full-size refrigerator, stove, and everything you need to cook meals. The backyard is a a wonderful oasis with nooks for the hot tub, firepit, and rock pathway.

Guests that need to get work done during their stay can utilize the dining table for their laptop. Coffee pot and local coffee also will be waiting for you. Feel free to rearrange the table and chairs if you plan to use the pullout couch, or let us know and we can rearrange before your arrival. The bathroom also has a large jetted tub and a walk-in shower. We also provide shampoo, body wash, hand soap and hairdryer.

The caboose is a 1953 caboose and it was converted by Jim Clark, who worked on the railroad for more than 50 years and had a long-held dream to convert a caboose into a vacation rental. When he retired, he bought the caboose and had it craned in, then built the bathroom addition. It was a vacation rental for many years before a European writer for the New York Times lived in it for five years before moving back home. Then, we bought it and made it into a vacation rental again for the past three years. People love the unique design and original details.

Guest access
Caboose, backyard, rec barn, hot tub, and deck.

Other things to note
Extra pets are $25 each. That is a one time fee--not charged for each night of your stay. You can leave cash or check (made out to Shawndra Russell) on the black folder that's on the bistro table in the caboose.
There's also a very sweet neighborhood dog named Cocoa (brown/white, brindled) who's owners live next door, and she will sometimes walk right up and want to be petted during the day. We've installed a gate so you don't have to worry about her coming onto the deck. Also, please do not feed her any food.
PLEASE message me through Airbnb when you check out :)

Location

Candler, North Carolina, United States

Candler is a fast-growing area that sits just 10 miles from downtown Asheville. There are lots of restaurants, a 24/7 CVS (pharmacy/grocery), Ingles grocery store, and a laundry mat all nearby. The caboose sits on a half acre and is surrounded by lots of mature trees that give the property plenty of privacy. Doc Brown's BBQ and Rejavanation Cafe are both good, and there's a drive-thru convenience store nearby for picking up beer and wine. The property was formally part of a tract of land that had been in the same family since the 1800s. Now, there are four homes (including the caboose) that share a half-mile gravel lane.

I'm a beer and travel writer, digital marketing coach, and event planner who loves living in Asheville but is always planning my next vacation too. I spend my free time trying craft beers, reading, skiing, and seeing live music. Our goal is to do at least one international trip per year, and 2016 was Croatia! Favorite movie: Good Will Hunting Favorite book: So many--English major--but highly recommend The Book Thief and The Paris Wife Favorite TV shows: Daily Show, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parenthood Favorite quote: "My life is like a stroll upon the beach, As near the ocean's edge as I can go."
