The Lonely Goat is a large studio apt with its own private entrance at our historic 1850 farmhouse. Sitting just above Waterbury Reservoir on Rt. 100, it is fantastically convenient to world class skiing at Stowe (& Sugarbush/Mad River Glen/Bolton), snowmobiling, paddling, swimming, hiking, biking & leaf-peeping. Keyless entry, Sleep Number bed, kitchenette and large bath. AWD car required Nov-Apr. Two natural food stores across street; organic coffee & cream provided. VT Tax ID MRT-10126712.

The space
I love the “modern rustic” feel of our space - contemporary vintage flair inside an authentic 1850s Vermont farmhouse. The ceiling is the original exposed hand hewn beams before saw mills existed here. The Goat boasts ultra comfort with a brand new queen-size SleepNumber bed and high quality soft bed linens and blankets and the Austrian in Jane compels her to actually iron the pillowcases - resort style comfort for our guests. Kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures are all brand new, paired with a restored vintage claw foot tub! Soaking feels great after a day of skiing and Jane’s organic essential oil bath salts add extra pleasure for our guests.

Greg can get from the front door to the ski lift at Stowe Mountain Resort in 20 minutes, which he has perfected to an art. We are located just up the hill from the Waterbury Reservoir public beach and boat launch, where guests can enjoy canoeing and paddle boarding in summer (Umiak rentals are available) and ice fishing during the winter.

We are also right next to a glass blowing studio you can walk to with live demonstrations. We have two specialty food stores nearly across the street, plus we are really close to everything in both Stowe and Waterbury, with easy highway access. We are in a recreation and foodie paradise with tons of outdoor activities, great restaurants, and breweries.

Guests love the privacy of the apartment (we often don’t see or meet our guests during their stay) with the ability to come and go as they please. Located directly on on Rt.100, guests have the ability to get anywhere very easily, although this also means you will hear some road noise and traffic (i.e., this is not a remote cabin in the woods). Other noises you may hear are our two small dogs barking on our side of the building when you arrive as they love meeting people and get very excited when we come home also, but we try hard to quiet them down quickly as possible - Lola generally stuffs a toy in her mouth to muffle her own barking! Lastly, Greg and I often practice music in the evenings after work on our side of the building. Some people hear us, some don’t, but hey, we aren’t too bad and are usually done by 9pm-ish. As one of the very top-rated AirBNBs in the area, we hope you enjoy your stay at The Lonely Goat!

Guest access
The Lonely Goat has a private guest entrance along with smart lock to allow for flexible check-in and check-out. We will likely not be home when you arrive and often do. To meet our guests during their stay as we highly respect your privacy. It is your own private space with a large bedroom and bathroom to spread out in and be comfortable, along with a large foyer for storing ski and recreation gear along with shoes/coats.

Other things to note
If you are looking for a quiet cabin in the woods, this is probably not the experience you are looking for. If you like adventure and want to do lots of recreation (skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, water activities etc.) tourist activities like beer and cheese tours, sugaring, ice fishing, shopping and more, we are perfectly located for everything Vermont has to offer! Our Guests love the easy access to Stowe, Waterbury, and the highway by being located directly on Route 100. If there is anything we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please let us know. All wheel drive vehicle is strongly recommended November through April.

Accountant by day, Musician by night - Greg Evans is the guitarist for the band Hot Box Honey and his wife Jane Evans is the singer. Greg is an avid ski enthusiast who always dreamed of living near a ski resort. In 2017, Greg bought Jane an historic 1850s Vermont Farmhouse right in heart of all the ski resorts Vermont has to offer. He named his Air BnB the Lonely Goat as a nod to the Sound of Music. Jane lived in Wien, Austria, and as a singer, always admired Julie Andrews. This is their first home and they intend to stay here the rest of their lives, loving the Green Mountains and their two tiny fur babies - Frida (7 pounds of Chihuahua power) and Lola (some sort of wildling mix), the Guardians of the Lonely Goat.

During your stay
We are very happy you are here at the Goat and we respect your privacy. Because we are often on the go with our band Hot Box Honey or out of cell coverage on the mountain skiing/hiking or on the Waterbury Reservoir in our canoe, we will very likely not be home when you arrive. If you contact us during your stay, we try hard to respond in a timely manner, but if there is a delay, we are not in range.

If we need to enter the storage rooms above the Goat on your side of the farmhouse while you are visiting, we will notify you that we are doing so and will never enter the rental unit unless there is an emergency or you request us to.
