Our stay at Residence La Paz was delightful in every way. The location is convenient yet quiet. The large kitchen is fully equipped with everything a chef would need to prepare meals, and the coffee and breakfast items are a big plus. James and Diane-Alexis are kind, helpful and quite experienced at making sure their guests enjoy their stay. The transportation and tour arrangements they made went top notch too!

Response from Diane-Alexis & James:
I'm sorry I didn't get to wish you bon voyage as you left, but I'm sure you made it to Granada just fine. Looking forward to learning that Leon's ankle let him climb the Machu Picchu with no lama required. It was a pleasure to host you. Thank you, and keep well!

Diane-Alexis & James’s place is very spacious and comfortable. It was the perfect start for our trip, as we had the chance to meet fellow travelers in the common areas and at breakfast and were able to swap stories and recommendations. We were three people and stayed in a room with two queen beds. The room was a good size and comfortable. We really liked the fact that we had a large walk in closet for our suitcases and for hanging clothes. Diane-Alexis and James are wonderful hosts, made us feel welcome and comfortable. When we had to go back a week after our stay for a forgotten item, my daughter commented that she felt like we were going home after a short trip away.

James is a super relaxed guy. He claimed to not know much, but all I needed was his tips and maybe 15 minutes of research online for what I want to do. Maybe it's not enough information for everyone though. Alexis had all the information. She's the one with all the tour info, as well as all the local spots. Her information will be quite thorough and that was great for me, but might not be suited for everyone. Either way would work for me, but I think visitors should decide early on how much information is needed. I appreciate high quality kitchenware and their bowls and dishes were great--nice decor as well. I didn't use the kitchen too much to comment on other things though, but knowing Alexis, my guess is that you won't see anything bad. I think lighting was sufficient, but barely. I think this is an easy fix though. The shower however, isn't an easy fix. But, it might suit those who has strong opinions about water conservation. If you're deciding on this place, you're paying money because it's one of the safest neighborhoods. It's quiet and surrounded by foreign embassies. Because of that, I couldn't really find any cheap restaurants though, or I should more accurately write Costa Rican pricing. They are hard to find in San Jose anyway and maybe Costa Rica in general, but they exist, though difficult to find on the Internet.

The house is in the Sabana Park area of San Jose, which is beautiful and safe and clean. This is very different from the downtown area of San Jose. Very nice restaurants and good bus service if you must go downtown. My hosts were available at all times and even took me to the farmer's market and acquainted me with some unusual produce. I was able to buy and enjoy eating some new and delicious things.
