Carlos is great and very helpful. From the minute you arrive to the minute you leave, he is making sure you are taken care of.
He picked my fiance and I up from the airport, brought us back to the hostel, helped us make coca tea, get our bags in the rooms, etc. Then he sat us down and gave a step-by-step guide to Cusco, available tours of the area and tours to Machu Picchu. We literally did nothing to plan our tours to Machu Picchu (other than pay). Carlos handled it all, which was exactly what we wanted.
The rooms did get VERY cold at night, which is no fault of Carlos'. He will provide you with PLENTY of blankets, but you'll also want to make sure to bring enough clothes if you are traveling in winter.
I had read in some of the other reviews that people were concerned with their safety in Carlos' neighborhood. This couldn't be farther from the truth. This is a very family-friendly neighborhood that is just not as tourist-y as the Plaza de Armas.
The only thing that I wish I had of known that doesn't seem to be listed in the ad is that the bathrooms are communal. Also, the shower water pressure isn't great, but that seemed to be common in many of the places we visited in Peru.
Carlos was very friendly and made sure we had all the things we needed. The room had plenty of warm blankets. Carlos was very helpful in directing me where to buy a bottle of water and how to get to the airport. I thought this place was a really great value for the price.
Carlos could not have been more attentive. He picked me up at the airport with a sign, escorted me to get a sim card for my phone, the bank for sols, and the next day arranged and took me to the van to Ollantaytambo... I found the part of town his Guest House is in to be charming and colorful.
Merci!
Bonne adresse, on recommande!
Our stay with Carlos was good :-) He accepted us last minute and was at the airport to pick us up. More importantly, he is a genuinely nice and helpful man. He was very kind and spent a long time explaining things to us about the area and what we could do on our trip to Peru. He organized transportation for us to Hydroelectrica (Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes area) which was very helpful. He offers an abundance of coca tea to help get you acclimated. He is soft spoken and works very hard - we respected him a lot. The hostel is nice. My only complaints are that the shower is in the bathroom - as is the case in many foreign countries. There is no barrier between the toilet and the shower. The hostel is not for people who are very picky about cleanliness. Bed was comfy though and the blankets were super warm and heavy.
Carlos helped my driver with directions to his place and met me outside while providing assistance with my bags. He offered coffee, wifi password and wanted to know about my trip. He was very pleasant and provided excellent hospitality. The next morning he arranged a taxi as I requested. I would definitely recommend Carlos to others.
This was a really good guesthouse. Carlos was extremely helpful and caring and went above and beyond when helping us arrange activities. He made suggestions too that were invaluable. I read other peoples comments on the neighborhood feeling unsafe but I thought it seemed fine, even walking around with multiple cameras around my neck. It may be a little less safe at night but I tried to make it in around dusk to avoid potential problems. At night, you can hear dogs barking out on the streets but I think this might be a problem anywhere in Cusco. We stayed on the top level which connects to an open-air patio and it is a little cold at night, so bring your thermals!
