About this listing
Newton-in-Furness is a quiet, peaceful village on the edge of the UK Lake District. It has two village pubs, providing good meals, and a small park for children. The area has a fascinating iron ore mining history. The cottage is about 30 minutes drive from Lake Coniston, where there are water sports facilities, rocks to climb, copper mines and mountains. The old market town of Ulverston and the city of Barrow-in-Furness are close by. Here there are historical monuments, Furness Abbey, a dock museum, a bird sanctuary, plenty of supermarkets, a 3-D multiscreen cinema, restaurants, and a beautiful coastline with small islands you can visit by boat. A wild animal park nearby is located in the ancient capital of Furness.
The semi-detached cottage is fully furnished. It has a comfortable living room with a real fire, a fitted kitchen with all utensils, including a microwave, fridge, freezer and washing machine. There a two double bedrooms and a boxroom with single bed, and an upstairs bathroom, with bath and electric shower. The house has full central heating and hot water, and a brand new boiler has been installed (May 2014)! To the back is a small, private garden and sitting area. In the evenings, I am only ten minutes away, to welcome you, tell you about the sights and try to make your stay as perfect as possible!
For your first morning of your stay, cereal, tea, coffee, sugar and milk will be provided free of charge - just to make you feel really at home and welcome.
There is plenty to do and see. The cottage is 10 minutes away from the sea and just half an hour to the nearest lake and mountains. There are some lovely local country walks down to a ruined 11th Century Abbey - one of the largest in the country.
Interaction with Guests
Generally my view is that once booked the cottage is your home for the duration of the stay, so I usually keep myself scarce. However,I am only 10 minutes away, so if you need any help or advice or have any problems at the cottage, I am on stand by to come and be of assistance.
Newton-in-Furness is lovely peaceful neighbourhood with very helpful, friendly neighbours. There two great village pubs about thirty second walking distance, a small play park for young children, and most impressive of all a communal book exchange in the form of an old telephone booth - just help yourselves to any books and just put them back.
It is quite hard to visit the Lake District without a car. There are trains and buses, but services are not particularly frequent and would require thorough research. I have been able to take some visitors out for odd days with payment of my time and fuel, so this service may be a option. For all drivers, the cottage has its own parking place directly outside the house.
Other Things to Note
A brand new central heating boiler has been installed (May 2014) and a brand new shower. There is now free WIFI at the cottage, and a fire pit in the back garden for barbequed foods.
Please make sure that you contact me if there is anything you need, so your stay is as comfortable as possible. Please feel free to use all the books and family games, and treat it as your own. I would greatly appreciate it, if you could leave the cottage just as you find it. Please be aware that smoking is not permitted anywhere in the cottage. The Welcome pack outlines all instructions for how to use the facilities in the cottage.
I have lived in this beautiful part of the world for over twenty years. It truly is an amazing place, with so much to do and explore. I do feel incredibly privileged living and working here. With a great love of walking, rock and ghyll scrambling and enjoyment of the more out of the way places, I should be able to guide you to the best places to visit in the Lake District.
I take my job of being your hostess very seriously; nothing is too much trouble to make sure your stay is as perfect as possible.
It is my hope that you come to love this area as much as I do, touched and inspired by the magnificence of the surrounding mountains, lakes and sea. I hope the memories you take away will instill a higher sense of perspective, renewing the deep sense of respect and gratitude we owe to our beautiful world.
