Newton-in-Furness is a quiet, peaceful village on the edge of the UK Lake District. It has two village pubs, providing good meals, and a small park for children. The area has a fascinating iron ore mining history. The cottage is about 30 minutes drive from Lake Coniston, where there are water sports facilities, rocks to climb, copper mines and mountains. The old market town of Ulverston and the city of Barrow-in-Furness are close by. Here there are historical monuments, Furness Abbey, a dock museum, a bird sanctuary, plenty of supermarkets, a 3-D multiscreen cinema, restaurants, and a beautiful coastline with small islands you can visit by boat. A wild animal park nearby is located in the ancient capital of Furness.
The semi-detached cottage is fully furnished. It has a comfortable living room with a real fire, a fitted kitchen with all utensils, including a microwave, fridge, freezer and washing machine. There a two double bedrooms and a boxroom with single bed, and an upstairs bathroom, with bath and electric shower. The house has full central heating and hot water, and a brand new boiler has been installed (May 2014)! To the back is a small, private garden and sitting area. In the evenings, I am only ten minutes away, to welcome you, tell you about the sights and try to make your stay as perfect as possible!
For your first morning of your stay, cereal, tea, coffee, sugar and milk will be provided free of charge - just to make you feel really at home and welcome.
There is plenty to do and see. The cottage is 10 minutes away from the sea and just half an hour to the nearest lake and mountains. There are some lovely local country walks down to a ruined 11th Century Abbey - one of the largest in the country.
Generally my view is that once booked the cottage is your home for the duration of the stay, so I usually keep myself scarce. However,I am only 10 minutes away, so if you need any help or advice or have any problems at the cottage, I am on stand by to come and be of assistance.
Newton-in-Furness is lovely peaceful neighbourhood with very helpful, friendly neighbours. There two great village pubs about thirty second walking distance, a small play park for young children, and most impressive of all a communal book exchange in the form of an old telephone booth - just help yourselves to any books and just put them back.
It is quite hard to visit the Lake District without a car. There are trains and buses, but services are not particularly frequent and would require thorough research. I have been able to take some visitors out for odd days with payment of my time and fuel, so this service may be a option. For all drivers, the cottage has its own parking place directly outside the house.
A brand new central heating boiler has been installed (May 2014) and a brand new shower. There is now free WIFI at the cottage, and a fire pit in the back garden for barbequed foods.
What a sweet little cottage! We all loved our stay at White Rose immensely: there was a playground around the corner for the kids, plenty of room for everyone, and the gentle bleating of sheep to lull us to sleep every night. Sunetra was very accommodating and friendly. We would love to stay here any time.
Thanks for accommodating our late arrival! It's a shame we couldn't stay longer
Very nice accommodation . Owner is very caring and assure that we are happy with the place. I will definately go again if given a chance. Nice countryside accommodation.
This listing was exactly as it was shown and it was great value for money. Sunetra left treats and sundries for our arrival which really added to the experience. It was clean, cosy and well located. Sunetra gave us lots of advice over email before our stay and this helped make our stay even easier.
We will definitely be back!
Sunetra (email hidden), supplying us with plenty of firewood and local advice, and the cottage was very comfortable.
Wonderfully comfortable stay and Sunetra was a delight...a bit tricky to find but the locals are really friendly and helpful, so it actually added to the experience! Would highly recommend this cute cottage for the Lakes base.
Had a nice and relaxing time with friends there. Lovely apartment for holidays.
Sunetra is a warm and generous host and the cottage is in a good position to visit the Lakes District.
This place is very cute! We enjoyed our stay, suited us perfectly for one night stopover. Not much to do in the village. Beds comfortable and check in/out super smooth. Great value.
Our stay at Sunetra's lovely cottage was a much needed break away. The cottage has a lovely, homely feel and is well looked after. Sunetra was easy to communicate with and was very helpful with any queries we had. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a home away from home in a quaint little town.
