Vilnius got into the top 10 of the Best Winter Trips 2016 from National Geographic.
The name of Vilnius’s main street reflects Lithuania’s tumultuous modern history. Built in 1836 as Georgij Avenue, the street was renamed Mickiewicz by the Polish, and first Stalin and then Lenin Avenue by the Soviets. The current name, Gediminas Avenue, was briefly used in 1939 and 1940 (between the Nazi and Soviet occupations) and was reinstated in 1989. The name honors Gediminas, Grand Duke of Lithuania (circa 1275 to 1341).

I love welcoming people to my lovely city, which I think is the best city in the world, just sometimes rain lasts too long.
Here you will find a beautiful old town, a lot of parks and squares, new districts like Paupys, interestings reborn districts like Naujamiestis and Uzupis, and you could even fly with an air balloon above the old town!
Just in 30 minutes, driving from the city, you can reach Trakai - the old Lithuanian capital with the medieval castle on the scenic lake Galves. Even within 3 hours you can reach the Baltic Sea's beach in Palanga, and in 3.5 hours you can walk in the Dead Dunes - one of the most dramatic and botanically significant features of the Curonian Spit (a ribbon of sand separating the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea).
