The space
Lovingly restored 1915 immigrant home in NewBo near the bridge to Czech Village. Garden, paved patio, and off-street parking. Just blocks away from your favorite bars, restaurants, entertainment venues, shopping, and the NewBo Market. With fully updated kitchen, baths, and appliances, this historic charmer is now energy- and water-efficient, featuring recycled and rapidly renewable materials. Perfect for a midweek or weekend getaway!

This home's historic name is the Lunak House, after its first recorded residents, Jarislav and Rose Lunak. It is believed to have been built around 1915, though it may have been present earlier, as a sided-over barn door between the 13th Ave windows suggests it was first used as a barn or outbuilding. If you are interested in the history of the house or the NewBo/Czech Village neighborhood, see the "evaluation of significance" in the book you will find at the house.

The house was flooded nearly to the first floor ceilings in 2008. Starting in 2013, it was rehabbed completely. Photos of its pre-rehab condition are included in the book as well. If you can't tell where a photo was taken, there is a photo key at the end.

Guest access
The rental includes the whole house, patio, and parking area. The air mattress can be set up in the living room. With room-darkening shades and doors that close it off for privacy, it can form a nice bedroom if needed.

Please note that this house is right in the heart of the District, with multiple bars and music venues within one block. If you are planning to enjoy the nightlife on foot, it is the perfect location. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a quiet getaway -- especially during the warmer months -- this might not be the neighborhood for you.
