Fiddlesticks Farmhouse is an elegant and relaxed retreat where you will be our only guests! The atmosphere is warm and inviting with attention to every detail for your comfort. One, two or three beautiful bedrooms, use of the front porch, two gazebos, 75 acres to roam and a light breakfast. Explore Floyd, with its music, art, food, wineries and hiking - and the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain scenery. Optional elegant tea parties which can be a meal or just dessert. Even Tea For Two!

The space

There are one to three available bedrooms, only booked for the same party, as needed. The third bedroom, if needed for spreading out guests, is held for visiting family and friends - though often available. Please message me if you'd be interested and I'll confirm whether I can block it for you.

A party of two can choose between the Jane Austen Room (one queen) and the Mark Twain Room (2 doubles). After booking, simply message the host to let them know your choice of bedroom. The other bedroom will not be booked during your stay, unless your own party has three or more. If you are a party of two who would like two separate bedrooms, please book as three people.
The Jane Austen Room is on the main floor with one queen bed and is tastefully decorated with its own gas fireplace, beautiful views of the countryside, and convenient access to the inviting front porch.
The Mark Twain Room is upstairs, above the Jane Austen Room. It has the original heart pine walls and floors from 1890. It has two double beds, a warm Americana theme and views of the countryside. There is a door directly from this room, as well as the hall to the Breakfast Room. Guests must be able to use stairs to access up to the bedroom and breakfast room.
The third bedroom which is often available, is the lovely Emily Dickinson Room, with a queen and twin bed - on the main floor. It has views of the beautiful English courtyard and countryside.
There will be one large hall bathroom dedicated to your party only. If you are only staying in the downstairs Jane Austen Room, then the downstairs bathroom will be yours. If you choose the upstairs Mark Twain Room only, then the upstairs bathroom will be yours. If you are using both or all three bedrooms, please send a message letting the host know whether you prefer the upstairs or downstairs bathroom.
If you would like two bathrooms and additional living space, see the separate listing under entire house in Floyd, Retreats at Fiddlesticks Farmhouse.

Guest access

You have access to a refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffee machine, french press and electric kettle. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and bottled water are provided. These are provided in the upstairs Breakfast Room, but if stairs are a problem we can provide easy access to amenities on the main floor.
You have direct access to the large and inviting true Southern front porch, where you can rock or nap on a lounge chair. Your light breakfast will be served in the breakfast room.
Check with us to see if the library isn't being used and you're welcome to enjoy everyone's dream room. The private library, worthy of a manor house, can be booked for private events, including Tea for Two!
If an important ball game or show is on, you're welcome to watch TV in the main floor family room.
Don't miss the JK Rowling Cupboard under the Stairs!
You can also take a moment's stroll to the gazebo with rockers or a longer stroll to the spacious enclosed gazebo and deck with mountain views. Feel free to take your coffee with you or wine that you may have bought at one of the local wineries!

Interaction with guests

I'll be here to offer as much or as little assistance as you'd like. I'm more than happy to let you be completely on your own or join you for a cup of coffee or glass of wine on the porch if you'd like. You can stroll the property on your own or I'll join you for a walkabout if you'd like. I'm warm and friendly but completely respect the idea of privacy.

Other things to note

If you live in the area or are in the area for a special occasion, the private library can be reserved for special gatherings and events. Contact the host for details.

Our stay at Fiddlesticks was absolutely magical. First, Joyce is a wonderful host. She was so helpful, informative, and organized and she anticipated all of our needs. We didn't want for anything during our stay! She had put together some local flyers about Floyd and as soon as we arrived on Friday night, we learned there was live bluegrass music downtown and got to enjoy a lively music and dancing experience. Then, the house itself is amazing. Every historic room is beautifully upkept, and the library upstairs is a stately but comfortable place to sit and dream by the fire while listening to the November wind roar. The mountain setting is gorgeous, I haven't seen so many stars in the sky in years, we saw deer every day and heard owls hooting at night. We slept like babies in the "Jane Austen" room and would have stayed another week if we could. Can't wait to go back!

Fiddlestick Farmhouse is surpassed in its charm and grace only by its host! Joyce has all of the amenities and comforts of home and makes you feel welcomed the moment you arrive. It was a wonderful get away with my sister, and it was so secluded and relaxing; watching families of deer graze the field with morning coffee, having a private "high tea" in a library worthy of an English Manor...yet, only 10 minutes to the artsy, musical, food filled downtown Floyd that we enjoyed trekking to throughout our stay. It's only a short hop over to Chateau Morrisette, and other wineries too. I'm so glad we decided to stay two nights. We made new memories and friends! Thank you Wm. and Joyce for sharing you lovely home.

If there was a six star review labeled "terrific," Joyce and Fiddlesticks Farm would get that rating from me and my girlfriend. You know when there is a J.K. Rowling cupboard under the stairway, you are in a special place, not to mention the rooms names for other great writers. The home Joyce and her husband have created is not only comfortable, it is stimulating and relaxing at the same time; stimulating from the history of the place and the literary themes and references; relaxing in a pastoral setting that was alive with warmth and color on the October morning of our stay. Joyce is a delightful and charming host, and a master of formal British tea! Our only regret is that our travel schedule did not allow for a longer stay or the opportunity to explore more of Floyd and surroundings ... next time!

Fiddlesticks Farmhouse was great, met and exceeded our expectations. Getting away from the hustle of or respective cities and meeting in Floyd was perfect. It had been 10 years since we graduated from VT and the quietness of Fiddlesticks Farm was the perfect catch up location. Joyce was a beautiful hostess, kind, inviting and warm. Close enough to Blacksburg we could relive old memories, but removed enough, we enjoyed the quiet. The home and land is beautiful, you won't be disappointed you decided to stay here.

Wow! What a great time we had at Fiddlesticks Farmhouse. The hostess, Joyce, made us feel welcome. For breakfast she accommodated my gluten allergy. We loved the Jane Austen room. It was so comfortable and we loved the furnishings. Rocking on the front porch was pure pleasure. We loved watching the deer that ran across the property. One highlight of our stay was walking the property which is beautiful and viewing the mountains from the gazebo while we drank a glass of wine. We loved the gardens and streams. Another highlight was drinking coffee and reading in the library. The library is very special and quite a surprise. You walk through the door and think you have walked into the library of a manor house in England! We loved our stay and can't wait to go back again!

An amazing place, in a bucolic setting, with the warmest of welcomes from the owner. The house was built in the late 1800's and stunningly updated. The Jane Austin room is beautifully decorated but we chose the more "rustic" Mark Twain room, which had two very comfortable beds, the room had the original floors from the 1880's that had been restored and was decorated in old Americana and history from when the home was built. We enjoyed having a glass of wine on the big upper porch and watching deer stroll by. The owner has a cute, well-stocked breakfast room just off the bedroom and we enjoyed her home baked muffins, yoghurt, coffee and OJ the next morning. We wished we had booked this for two nights. The property (75 acres) is only about 20 minutes from downtown Floyd, VA and 50 minutes from Virginia Tech, but well worth the drive the next time I'm in Blacksburg. If the owner asks if you'd like to add a high tea to your stay take her up on it. The library she holds it in is a completely unexpected and surreal surprise. It looks like a manor or castle room from Europe was picked up and reassembled in a big farmhouse in Floyd, VA. Tip: There are no restaurants or stores close to the farm so pick up any essentials before you arrive.

Thanks so much for your kind words! It was such a pleasure having you and your mom stay. I definitely look forward to a future visit! For the record, you took a "creative" way from Chateau Morissette to the house! It's only 10 minutes to the center of Floyd down Christiansburg Pike. Easy access to restaurants and shops. There is also a direct way from the house to Blacksburg - it's 40 minutes. I happened to be at VT campus today and timed it. It may feel a world away while at Fiddlesticks Farmhouse but it really isn't!
