Interaction with Guests
We are here to make you feel comfortable but respect your privacy. The downstairs is completely separate from the upstairs living quarters. Our home is very quiet and our two dogs are kept upstairs.
The neighborhood is full of trees, friendly people, the opportunity to take walks, enjoy the park, tennis courts and of course, our close proximity to three major universities, the town of Chapel Hill and Durham, recently rated as a number one place to live in America.
5 minutes from downtown. 20 minutes from the airport.
Other Things to Note
The two bedrooms share a bath which we lock off to one side if you want separate bathrooms. One room has a king size bed, dresser, sitting couch and tv/dvd/internet and the other room has two twin beds that can be put together to make a king plus a sitting chair, dresser, tv/dvd/internet. The twin/king room has access to a private bathroom and shower off of the main living area. Guests in this room would have a key to use that bathroom and the shower next to it. The shower is huge and has two shower heads in different locations. The bathroom is 30 paces from the bedroom (we walked it off to be sure!).

Scott and Lynda were very nice and helpful hosts! The basement apartment is very large and clean. Beds were very comfortable and the pillows were awesome! You do use the main entrance to the house but they were very nice whenever we ran into them on the way in or out!
Absolutely great! Lynda and Scott are wonderful hosts. The apartment went on forever and very nice. My wife and I could not believe how much space there was for the price. Cannot say enough about how nice the stay was. Will absolutely stay again if I can.
Scott and Lynda's place was just as described, and although you did have to go through a foyer before reaching the stairs to the basement, it was no problem at all. We felt that we had our privacy at all times, and when we did have contact with the hosts, they were incredibly kind and accomodating. The area was spacious and clean, very comfortable, lovely gardens, and great dogs, if you chose to interact with them outside.
We had a wonderful experience in this lovely home centrally located in Durham, NC. The house is located in a quiet neighborhood and is spacious, beautifully appointed, immaculately clean, and had everything we could possibly need and more. Our hosts were gracious, helpful and friendly. They really made us feel at home away from home. We look forward to coming back!
Nice English basement, but not an "entire home" as described. Access was through the front door, and needed to walk through the foyer and living area to access the stairs to the basement. Scott greeted us on our arrival, and gave us a nice overview. We didn't have access to the backyard due to dogs, which we were never introduced to so never felt comfortable opening the door and approaching. Scott liked to point out to us that this was "not a hotel," which I was well aware of (that was the whole point in using airbnb) but a fact that became blatantly obvious after learning that the lodging was falsely advertised, no toiletries were provided, and one member of my party was refused entry the second night (for completely subjective and controversial reasons--an act that befuddled my entire group). Ironically, none of our negative experiences would have occurred had the apartment actually been an "entire home" as advertised. No refund was provided for that night's extra person charge either.
Overall a less than desired experience, I assure you there are better accommodation options in the Durham area, look elsewhere
Daniel: A most unfortunate review from you. Fortunately, potential guests will read more than this one review to make their decision about staying with us. I am pretty sure that your negative review stems from one of your comments – “one member of my party was refused entry the second night (for completely subjective and controversial reasons--an act that befuddled my entire group).”
Alas Daniel, as you know, the person in question was you. When your friends dragged you to our door at 2:30 am, you were lifeless, unconscious and severely drunk. I stopped them and told them that you needed to be hospitalized. I feared you had severe alcohol poisoning and was concerned that if you vomited while laying on our couch you could likely inhale your own vomit and suffocate – an increasingly alarming occurrence among college students who drink too much. Your friends were adamant that you should not be taken to the hospital, and I was adamant that you should. I shared my concern and suggestion with both your wife and your father. After violently vomiting in front of our house, your friends folded you into their car and sped off.
Daniel, my concern was for you and not these people who clearly wanted to get rid of you as quickly as they could. When your limp body arrived at our door after what was described to us as "hard partying" after your Duke University graduation ceremony, you met several of the physical criteria for severe alcohol poisoning. As a father, there is no way I could stand idly by and accept the wishes of the strangers at the door who kept telling me, “He will be fine. He just needs to sleep it off.”
I hope you grasp the “luck” involved in the timing of your vomiting in front of our home. You were “lucky” that your friends were holding you upright. I need to stress to you (and anyone reading this post), that if I had let your “friends” drag your limp, unconscious body downstairs and lay you on the couch, you would now most likely be dead as a result of choking on your own vomit.
If I acted in a way that helped save your life, then a bad review is well worth it. I must tell you, I would do the same thing were it to happen again. I wish nothing but the best for you Daniel. Hopefully, my reply to your review will strike a chord, if not for you, maybe for someone else who might find themselves in similar circumstances.
Scott & Lynda were incredible hosts, and very nice people to boot. They made our family feel right at home. Their place had everything we needed for our stay. They were very generous in helping us out when we needed to clean the interior of our car, saving us a trip to the car wash! This is a great property for families with kids and anyone seeking a quiet getaway in Durham area. Durham is a place we visit often, so we will be back! Thanks y'all.

About the Host, Scott & Lynda
As travelers of the world we welcome the opportunity to share our home with those visiting the states for the first time and want to experience all that the Research Triangle has to offer or those visiting a loved one at one of the many nearby universities. We are also aware that the business traveler sometimes is just plain weary of yet another hotel. Let us change that experience for you.
