About the Inner Mission District-
"La Mision" / "The Mish":
Centrally located close to downtown, it is the city's Latino district & has been the gateway for most new immigrants, initially Italian, Irish, then predominantly Latino since the 1970's .
It is famous for its historic buildings, Mission burritos (the best in Northern California), grungy artistic scene & it's colorful murals.
Though the Mission still retains it's gritty 'barrio' (hood) flavor the neighborhood has been undergoing a second wave of gentrification lately and has been experiencing with an influx of technology money.
The Mission district is large & complex, with varying socioeconomic areas, clusters of mini-communities, and specialty stores found nowhere else. A few years back Utne Reader rated the Inner Mission the 2nd coolest place to live in the US (first was New Orlean's Garden District).
Like in any other cities there are sections of the Mission that can be high crime but don't let that scare you, as a woman I have walked at all hours & never have felt unsafe -awareness & attitude is your best protection. Native San Franciscans know it as one of the 'cool & hip' districts with a Latin flavor & a funky Bohemian edge as well.
Excellent inner Mission location-2 Blocks to 24th BART (metro), short ride from the airport and to downtown, numerous bus lines & Hwys 280 & 101, short walk to J Church street car. The Mission has a community feeling, easy walking sometimes it is better to leave the car and get to know the neighborhood on foot or on a bike!
The house is near both Valencia & 24th St. corridors w/ great boutiques, restaurants, art galleries & great day & nightlife.
Other Things to Note
I am a 45yr old Latina that runs a small Latinamerican importing business in the Mission. My motto is Mi Casa es su Casa, I am courteous, helpful-you will love my Latin hospitality.
I am also an experienced traveler, the last trip I did was to the Caribbean in Honduras (fantastic!).
I am from Mexico originally but grew up in the Bay Area & have lived in SF for 20 years (in this house for 15 ). I also love to dance all kinds of styles but Brazilian Samba is my passion. My other hobbies are hiking, camping, shopping, fashion, antiques & history. I also speak several languages; j'etudie Francais, un po d'Italiano, eu falo un poquinho de portuguese Brasiliero.
I can work a lot so you may see me little, but I am happy to share the best places locals love that are not in guidebooks.
Oh ya -free salsa classes included in your stay-I can teach you salsa in 15 mins - really!
it is that easy...and just enough to fake the rest.
We wear slippers or flip flops in the house.
Enjoy smoking cigarettes outside-please no other drugs.
We divert waste into compost, recycling & landfill garbage.
Please wash your dishes & pick up after yourself in the shared areas.
