Garden view

Soak up the view during your stay.
The Snooty Suite loves everybody! Smack in between downtown and Fondren (but in an awesome, old historic neighborhood in its own right), it's part of the House of Seven Gables. With a private entry, sitting room and bath, you'll have ample breathing room and the freedom to explore Jackson at your leisure. Chill on the porch, walk to the coffee shop or take a quick drive to Fondren, downtown and the museum campus.

The space
Built in 1929, the House of Seven Gables is a Tudor-style home adjacent to Belhaven College in the historic Belhaven neighborhood of Jackson. It still retains its beautiful character with steel windows, hardwood floors, nickel hardware and lots of art, but, after a years-long renovation, has been comfortably modernized.

The guest suite is equipped with dorm-style kitchen basics (microwave, espresso maker, toaster and small refrigerator), but please note that we are currently renovating the house's main kitchen, so you won't have access to it. Seven awesome restaurants in the neighborhood (and way more just a short drive away) are ready to step in and help out!

You'll also find a comfortable, queen-sized bed with fresh, high thread-count linens, plenty of pillows and a down comforter. The bedroom has a small desk, and we'd be glad to set up a printer/scanner if you let us know you'll be traveling for business. The private bathroom has a walk-in shower (no tub) and plenty of toiletries. Since there's no TV, we've also supplied the private living room with books, games and, of course, wifi. You'll also find great people watching through the living room windows!

Guest access
Guests will have access to a bedroom, bath, sitting room and porch that are separated from the rest of the house and not shared. Restricted access to the rest of the house. Sorry, no kitchen access!

Other things to note
Some very important things:

1. The suite is not a freestanding structure, but part of the house where we live. In the entryway, there is a door, which can be locked, leading into the main house. The entryway also leads to a hallway connecting your bedroom and sitting room. Hopefully you won't even know we're here unless you knock on the door needing something!

2. Belhaven is a busy neighborhood, and we are on a corner directly opposite a college campus with other schools nearby. The neighborhood can get kind of hectic, especially on nights when one of the schools has a game (you may hear cheering and band sounds on those evenings), and there are a few buses that roll past the corner and make a good bit of noise. Something to keep in mind! There is a white noise machine in the suite to help with any annoying noises. I kind of like walking down the street when there's a soccer game in the fall to take a few minutes of it in. But that's just me!

3. You are welcome to park in the driveway, and there is almost always additional parking right next to the house on the street. Main thing to be aware of with parking: it's not in a secure garage, but it is free, close and abundant.

4. As mentioned above, the suite does not have a TV! We don't have one either, so don't feel neglected. And if you need recommendations for sports bars with TVs, just send a message!

5. And no bathtub, either. Sorry!

6. We just adopted a puppy, so if you are severely allergic to dogs, take heed! She is not allowed in the suite, but she's still under the same roof, and I would hate to bring allergens into the suite when I'm cleaning. Speaking of allergies, please, please let me know if you have any that I should be aware of. I'm wildly sympathetic as a fellow sufferer.

Neighborhood highlights

While it's only about a square mile, Belhaven is a diverse, eclectic and historic neighborhood that's home to Belhaven College, a church, secondary schools, the Eudora Welty Museum, Baptist Hospital, restaurants and many homes. It's a gem tucked in between downtown Jackson and Fondren and adjacent to the museum campus. You'll see plenty of neighbors and students jogging and walking dogs in one of 2014's 10 Great Places in America.

My work: n/a
Lives in Jackson, Mississippi
After spending years on the road, I decided to return to my House of Seven Gables to grow flowers and get reacquainted with my home state. My partner is a ballroom dance instructor, and I'm his happy assistant. When we're not at the studio, we're around town listening and dancing to great live music. We're big on visiting New Orleans for just those reasons, but our first love is always Jackson.
