About this listing
The West Room is our most popular room because it has its own private bathroom with a shower. There's the big comfy queen size bed where afternoon sunshine pours in. This room is our tribute to the warmth and and friendship of Latin America.
The green lodging has been operating since 2000. We provide organic breakfasts, organic cotton sheets, locally made furnishings. Out of respect for people with chemical sensitivities, we use only environmentally friendly cleaning products and encourage a scent-free environment. The West Room is a small room on the main floor with its own private bathroom adjacent to it.
Our hope is that you'll find our home comfortable, relaxing, and inspirational. If you're already familiar with common environmental practices like recycling, composting and eating organic food, you'll feel right at home here. If not, we'd be happy to explain their importance, as well as our use of organic bedding, buying locally, raising chickens, and energy saving practices. We love sharing what we know and learning more from our guests. We serve breakfast on your schedule in any number of locations, indoors or out.
We also have become a Washington State non-profit, Fertile Ground Commons, our demonstration site for sustainable living. As such, you'll find lots of activity around the house with people picking up their CSA shares, carpooling, dropping off home school kids, volunteering in the garden, or having a potluck. It's a fun way to get a taste of Olympia, if you're up for it.
This Oasis in downtown Olympia has a large garden and mature fruit and nut trees along with six chickens and numerous swings and outdoor seating areas. We are super kid-friendly and can provide high chair, stroller, play pen, booster seats and toys! Just bring the kids, the Fertile Grounds will keep them occupied.
Guests have access to The Commons: an outdoor space with gardens, fountain, food court, edible landscaping, swings. Indoors, we have a piano, library, sauna and an open kitchen.

My partner and I had a wonderful time staying in the West Room. Gail and Karen were gracious hosts. They really know how to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. The breakfast was incredible! We will definitely have to come back on our next visit to Olympia.
Fertile Ground is one of the best airbnb places we have stayed. Gail is welcoming, accommodating, fun, and interesting. She cooked the most wonderful full breakfasts every morning, including omelets, pancakes with cooked apples, and fantastic huevos rancheros. The coffee was great, and we were treated to white grape juice that came from grapes out of the garden that we could see out the window. The bed was extremely comfortable, and everything just felt nice. When we saw the place upon arrival and were given a tour of the upstairs as well, I knew an artist must have been involved. I was right. Every detail in all places was tasteful, thoughtful, different, and interesting. The bedding is lovely, and even children can be accommodated in the upstairs rooms. We stayed downstairs and had a large, private bathroom. Finally, the views from all of the windows include beautiful flowers and other things pleasant. We highly recommend Fertile Ground and would definitely stay there again.
Gail and the West Room at Fertile Ground were my first AirBnB experience! I'll keep it short and sweet: the place is immaculately clean, wonderfully appointed, has an *organized* library, big grounds, and Gail is very friendly.
What a great place to stay - I'll definitely be back just to visit Olympia on weekends, and so will my girlfriend.
The Guesthouse is a cool place with free ranging chickens, and the owners are very hospitable and cool too..

About the Host, Gail
I love traveling, just like you. I've been to Europe, Central America, Peru, the Middle East and all over North America. Still need to squeeze in Africa and Asia before I'm too old to enjoy them.
The trouble is, I live in Paradise and so leaving is really hard. Olympia is the best little town ever (hippest town in the west according to Time Magazine, but how hip are they?) and I maintain a gorgeous oasis in downtown with a huge garden, chickens and community meeting space. It's so perfect that it's hard to leave it.
I'm focused on remembering I'm a spirit with a body and not the other way around. Earth School is an opportunity to collect wisdom and share love on my journey back to the One. So, being a lazy sort of spirit, I've created this paradise around me where most people are very easy to love. Onward and upward!
