Visiting Trastevere: squares, churches, bridges ...
Trastevere is the thirteenth district of Rome, and derives its name from the Latin trans Tiberim (beyond the Tiber) and is now a neighborhood with rich history and particular, narrow roads and irregular, in the heart of Rome between the Colosseum and the Vatican: coming from Castel Sant'Angelo with the river on your left, you come across Ponte Sisto, an overview window on the blond Tiber.
Front of the bridge extends Trilussa Square, dedicated to the Roman dialect poet, whose staircase is a meeting point for evening students and tourists.
Forwarded to his shoulders in the streets of the neighborhood, you can admire the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, located at the center of the square, and the Museo di Roma in Trastevere, which is dedicated to the folkloric aspects of the city.
Places worth visiting are the church of Sant'Egidio, and from there the Corsini Gallery, which houses works from the Baroque period mannered (including the authors exposed Guido Reni, Giovanni Lanfranco, Caravaggio, Francesco Trevisani, Luca Giordano, Carlo Maratta, Rubens, Andrea Del Sarto).
In front of the gallery, a little farther on, there is the Accademia dei Lincei, founded in 1603 by Federico Cesi and meeting place for leading scientists, including Galileo Galilei.
Still around, Via San Francesco di Sales, you can access the House of Memory and History, Old promoter of cultural events, events to deepen the meaning of key moments in the history of the '900 and Rome.
Back on Via Garibaldi, Porta Settimiana addition, you may proceed to the Piazza della Scala, from there to Piazza San Calisto and the adjacent streets, with their bars and restaurants, reporting to the wider modern Viale Trastevere, and then back to the river passing through Piazza Sonnino, home to the Church of San Crisogono (which is preserved the medieval mosaics by Pietro Cavallini) and the Chiesa di Sant'Agata (where the famous statue of the Madonna de Noantri, patron saint of the neighborhood Trastevere) , to the charming Piazza Gioacchino Belli.
But not before admiring the church of San Francesco a Ripa, which houses the Umbrian saint, which hosts the magnificent Gianlorenzo Bernini's sculpture of the Blessed Ludovica Albertoni.
Today, Trastevere still retains its character through the winding streets covered with paving stones overlooked by medieval houses.
The night is full of people, both Italian and foreign, thanks to the wealth of restaurants and pubs for every price range.
And 'one of the liveliest quarters, characteristic and self-sufficient in the city.
Offers restaurants and pizzerias as well as cinemas, markets, (Saint Cosimato was renovated just recently), banks, pharmacies, supermarkets, shops of every kind and elegant shops.
If you want some suggestions on a typical Roman restaurant, it indicates the restaurant "Da Lucia" in Vicolo del Mattonato, where you can taste the traditional Roman cuisine.
Sabrina was very helpful. She gave us all the information we needed, and even arranged a taxi for us (which arrived 15 minutes early) to take us to the airrpot.
Sabrina was wonderful! We loved all of her recommendations for restaurants and she was very helpful with arranging taxi service for us to and from the airport. The apartment was perfect, we had everything we needed. It was also in a great location, so many cute little places near by. Loved our time here.
We enjoyed our stay here and I would recommend it to any couple. Sabrina was very helpful, accommodating, and easy-going. The location is excellent - a fairly quiet street with cafes and restaurants 2 blocks away. Despite there being a BLIZZARD in Rome (!?!), it was warm and we slept well.
The place is well located in a fun neighborhood with lots of great restaurants and shops and close walking to major sights. Sabrina was great!
I can absolutely recommend this place! The location is perfect!
The apartment is typical Trastevere style, it was perfectly clean and renovated not too long ago. The kitchen is _fully_ equipped, the (wlan) internet is fast and the bathroom is just fine.
It might get a little tight if you stay with 4 persons, but for a couple this is a no brainer, just take it.
Also Sabrina was a wonderful and caring host.
This apt was perfect. Very clean and comfortable and Sabrina was very friendly and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again. It's right in the heart of a great neighborhood with so many restaurants to choose from and very close to anything in Rome.
Sabrina is a fabulous landlady -- kind, available, flexible, welcoming, hard working, and will bend over backwards to resolve any issues you might have. The location of her units is also superb. Trastevere is a lively neighborhood, and the apartments are just around the corner from the action, but still on quiet streets. I would stay in the Vicolo del Cedro building again happily. The rooftop terrace is particularly nice. The Gaia apartment. although beautifully decorated and with good appliances, has some issues, to the point that Sabrina moved us into Cedro part way through our stay. The downstairs is too damp to be functional, so it really not a one bedroom. Sabrina made sure that our trip was a success, and that our time in Rome was as great as it could be.
Had a lovely stay in Rome at Sabrina's apartment. Great location in Trastevere, right across the street from two fantastic restaurants, and in walking distance to all the sights the city has to offer. Clean, spacious, and most importantly in Rome, quiet at night. Would definitely stay again if ever back!
