Casa da Medronheira is one of 12 independent houses on the stunning 60 hectares big estate Monte West Coast, located in a valley only 5 km away from the beach! At the middle of the estate is a big swimming pool which all our guests can use. Casa da Medronheira was restored in 2019 using traditional methods combined with modern comfort and has 2 en suite bedrooms. 70m2. In front of the house passes the public dirt road which leads to Odeceixe and the beach. Behind the house is a steep hill.

The space
The house Casa da Medronheira (medronheira means strawberry tree in portuguese, and Medronheira was the original name of this part of the property) is located on the Southwestern tip of our estate, next to the road leading towards Odeceixe. It was restored from a ruin in 2019 and we were able to maintain most of the 60 cm thick original walls.

The house is 70 m2 big (7530 ft2) and has two en suite bedrooms with double beds (160x200 cm).
Each bathroom has a big shower with hot water, washbasin and wc. Both bathrooms have hydraulic mosaic tiles on the walls and the floor.
The open space living room has dining table with chairs, kitchenette and a whitewashed built-in sofa. The kitchenette part is also in hydraulic mosaic tiles, on the floor included, to visually separate the cooking area from the living room and dining area.
There is an espresso machine, a small refrigerator, an electric induction two plate stove, a water boiler and a toaster. The set of plates, glasses, cups and cutlery is for 8 people

There is no washing machine, dishwasher or oven in the house. If you wish to wash some clothes that can be arranged for you by the housekeepers at a small fee per load.

In front of the house is a patio and at the end of it is a stone stair leading up to the terrace above.

Casa da Medronheira is one of 12 independent houses we have restored so far on the 60 hectares estate Monte West Coast. Here used to be a farm with a water mill and houses for several families, locals know it as Moinho (water mill) Aboboreira.

The river Seixe passes in the middle of the estate (this is the Alentejo-Algarve border. Some houses, as Casa da Medronheira, are in Algarve and other are in Alentejo!) then in front of the town Odeceixe and reaches the ocean 5 km downstream from us, at the outstanding Odeceixe beach (voted one of the Seven Wonders in Portugal).

A heated outdoor swimming-pool with a big sun-deck is at the disposal of all of our guests. It is located up the hill on the northern side of the river with a magnificent view of our part of the valley.
We have a canoe, a Stand Up Paddle and mountainbikes. Feel free to use them whenever you please.

On the southeastern part of the estate are the farm's animals, among which you will find for example goats, sheep, chicken, dogs and a cat.

The estate is in a protected area, only 3 km from the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Driving inland from Monte West Coast you reach the mountains Serra de Monchique.

You easily reach Casa da Medronheira by turning towards Zambujeira de Baixo on the southern (Odeceixe) side of the Odeceixe bridge. This is, you make a right-turn just before the bridge if you are coming from the South, or a left-turn just after the bridge if you are coming from the North. The road then follows the river upstream for 3 km (of which half is asphalt and the other half a dirt road in good conditions) and you have reached your destination, Casa da Medronheira is located next to the road to the right, the big stone wall hiding part of the house from sight can't be missed :) There is parking on both sides of the road. If you continue in front on the road some 300 meters, by car or by foot, you reach another parking on your right. On the left are stone stairs you can walk down, then cross the wooden bridge by foot and walk the short stone-paved path to reach some of our other houses and the access to the pool up the hill. An alternative is to cross the river just in front of the house using our canoe!

The house is located 3 km from Odeceixe and 15 km from Aljezur, both towns are worth a visit!

We highly recommend the beaches in the area, which are known for their beauty and some of them also for the excelent surf. The nearest beach is Praia de Odeceixe. Then there is Praia Vale dos Homens in nearby Rogil, Praia da Amoreira and Praia da Arrifana which you reach passing through the beautiful old town Aljezur and Praia da Carrapateira a bit more south only to name a few.

If you prefer staying on the estate there is a heated swimming pool for all of our guests on the slope of the hill on the other side of the river, with a magnificent view overlooking our part of the valley. The pool is 75 m2 big and to it belongs a 250 m2 sundeck. To reach it from Casa da Medronheira you turn right on the dirt road in front of the house, and reach a stone stair about 300 meteres ahead. Walk down the stairs, cross the wooden bridge and follow the stone path to the pool (located above the houses you'll see in front)
An alternative is using our canoe to cross the river just in front of the house!

The official hiking route Rota Vicentina passes not even 300 meters from the northwest side of our property. The route crosses the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park from North to South.
