Nuuanu is so lush and beautiful and one of the earliest established neighborhoods in Honolulu. The English translation for Nuuanu is "cool heights". Famous residents of long ago were Hawaii kings, queens and many members of the professional community ( doctors, attorneys, members of the Hawaii provincial government) Lots of history!
There are hiking trails further up the road from our house which adds to its charm and uniqueness. Neighborhood is friendly and safe.
One parking space is included at no additional cost conveniently located in front of the unit.
Hawaii has one of the best bus systems in the U.S. There is a bus stop about 100 feet from our main driveway.
We are located in a quiet neighborhood. Please keep this in mind during your stay.
This is a no smoking facility.
There is parking for only one car. No mopeds or motorcycles please. If you have a guest, please let us know in advance so we maybe accommodate you.

Very nice place, Graham met us at our arrival and showed us around and was very accessible the entire time. The location is very good. Its close to Honolulu and the north-east shores (with great beaches). Thanks!
We enjoyed staying here. It was larger and more modern than we anticipated from the listing. With Graham's detailed directions, we had no problem locating the place, which is located less than 10 minutes from town in a beautiful tropical forest overlooking a stream. The unit features a large lanai, full kitchen, large washer and dryer, kitchen table, desk, large living room with a sofa, 2 chairs, and a big screen tv. There is lots of natural light and when opened up allows nice breezes throughout.
We did encounter some problems with the wi-fi which were resolved. Graham and Connie are great hosts --- they were available when needed but otherwise remained unobtrusive.
It's a great place to stay. Recommended!
Graham, thank you for giving us an opportunity to stay at your beautiful rainforest haven! The location of your house was perfect for our purpose--just a short, breathtaking drive up the Pali. My family and I enjoyed your well furnished house, the cool breezes, the lovely chirping of birds and the refreshing rain showers early in the morning. I for one actually miss all this! And where else would you find a host who will provide you with a bunch of freshly picked apple bananas the day you arrive! The avocado & lychee trees were quite a sight for my children. Thank you for making our stay a very memorable experience!
Graham was very helpful arranging our arrival; he and his wife met us and easily explained everything. Their place is large, has a great kitchen and living area with wall TV and wifi. It's convenient to both sides of the island. Although there's easy access to a main highway it's secluded among tall palms and luxuriant foliage. We walked around the neighborhood which is just as I remember from my childhood. A wonderful spot! We were very happy there.
Absolutely loved the location and beauty of this home. My wife and I spent a week in Waikiki last October. The parking and crowds in Waikiki led us to searching for a more suitable location.
Graham greeted my family with bananas and gave us the tour of the home. This home is in the rainforest so you should expect rain almost every day. The rain and breeze help to keep the temps down in this unit.
I was concerned that it would be too hot at night to sleep. ( no air conditioning) But the fans, rain and breeze made the nights comfortable.
Only 15 minutes from the beach and if you have ever been to Oahu you will appreciate being able to park at the door.
The furnishings are superb and the washer/dryer allowed us to pack lighter.
Enjoyed watching the geckos hunting moths on the outside of the windows each evening.
Only downside was that the rainforest is full of mosquitoes so be quick entering and exiting the house.
Graham and his wife welcomed us and showed how everything works in their beautiful spacious "cottage" that's really much more. Their home is next door, but their presence was not noticed and you feel completely separate. The interior is all like new and very clean with a huge open kitchen and living area! It truly is an urban rain forest: you look out on to giant palms and vines growing everywhere.
We loved the privacy and our walk in the neighborhood.
The surroundings and the house were perfect, lush, easy access to great beaches and in ten minutes I could get to anywhere else I wanted to be. The host was gracious, nice and available. The next time I am visiting Oahu, this will be my "go to place" as I felt it was perfect in every way. It's like a beautiful secret hideaway at a fair price with a caring and thoughtful host. (Terry)
About the Host, Graham
I am an enterprising Kiwi who sailed from New Zealand to Hawaii over 30 years ago and never left (still have the accent!) As luck would have it I married a local girl and now I am here for good.
I've traveled to most continents with the exception of Africa and Asia and sailed a large portion of the South Pacific since my youth. My wife and I usually travel on the no plan plan, with no particular schedule in mind, enjoying getting lost and finding new places. You'll find we are both very easy going , low key and full of "local" knowledge. I myself do enjoy a good conversation and meeting new people.
Hawaii's geography is quite diverse, so while you're here check it out. Of course if you are an ocean going person, Hawaii is the perfect destination spot for you. Our beaches are clean and beautiful with free access to all. Hawaii mountains, rain forests and trails are majestic, take your breath away. (p.s. Hawaii 5-0 and other movies etc are filmed in our neighborhood)
Our home is centrally located in a rain forest in the Nuuanu area of Honolulu. Its a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki yet still close enough to venture out.
