The Area

Lower East Side (LES)
This is one of the hottest up and coming areas in the city and with many cool bars and retaurants. Some to check out are:
•Russ & Daughters 179 E Houston St. This is an institution if you like bagels, been open over 80 years.
•Tapeo 29 and Salt Bar Cnr Clinton and Stanton. These are two great bars with great bar food.
•Clinton St Baking Company 29 Clinton St. Be sure to go early on a weekday to avoid the lines for brunch.
•Katz Delicatessan 205 E Houston. Lots of tourists but one of the most famous delis in NY.
•Whole Foods 96 E Houston. Great organic supermarket with a nice food court upstairs.

Nolita
This is probably my favorite neighborhood. Really great to walk around and explore.
•Fonda Nolita 267 Elizabeth St. Some of the best tacos and Margaritas around. Gets busy early.
•Café Habana 17 Prince St. Very famous café.
•Bar Bossa 232 Elizabeth St. Great Brazilian restaurant with a relaxed vibe.

Soho
Great people watching and great shopping. It’s a good area to explore and get lost in. A great café/restaurant is Antique Garage 41 Mercer St.

West Village
West Village is another beautiful area to explore and get lost in. Washington Square park is very beautiful and the Comedy Cellar is brilliant.

Transport
•There are 2 subway stops with one block from the apartment. These are 2nd Ave and Delancey stops.
•For the airport you can take public transport or a car service/cab. It usually runs about $65
• Cabs are everywhere in NY and take all cards. Be sure to get in the cab first before telling them where you are going, by law they have to take you. The best spot to get a cab is on Houston St.
•There are Citibikes you can rent at the corner of Ave C and 2nd Ave.

  • Staying at John's place was great. It's clean, tidy, comfortable and good value for money. The apartment was ideal for getting out and about and seeing NYC. Thanks!

  • John's comfortable apartment in the Lower Eastside was exactly what we were looking for: spacious enough for a family with two little children, with all the kitchen facilities we needed. It is located in one of the most interesting neighbouhoods in Lower Manhattan - a footwalk from East and Greenwich Village, very close to beautiful bars and restaurants and the shopping area of Nolita. John was very helpful and reacted to our emails soon. As we were looking for some privacy with the two little kids we were happy that we didn't need to share the apartment.

  • Great apartment in great location. Really warm and cosy despite the freezing temperatures outside. Modern furnishings and fittings. The only thing missing was a washing machine!

    January 2014
  • Nice location, nice room and heating, kind of tiring to carry the case to the 5th floor without lift, overall good place for short term stay.

  • I had an awesome time while staying at John's place. First off, it's in a great location with access to Brooklyn and Manhattan via subway. The apartment is a great value for the size and has everything you would get from a hotel. The area is full of restaurants and shops. I even walked to union square from the apartment to meet up with friends.
Although the apartment is on the 5th floor, I didn't find the stair situation a problem, but they are narrow so if you have issues with stairs, then prob not for you. Also, it can get noisy outside if you have windows open, but that's everywhere in NY. Overall, clean and well equipped apartment with all you could ask for at a great price.

  • I had an awesome stay. John was very friendly and responsive to all questions. Between the convenient location, updated appliances, massive bed, and fast internet I couldn't have asked for anything more!

  • This place is the best deal: great area, nice size and well equipped. We stayed there with 2 kids for a few days and it was fine. Most important John helped and welcomed us like a friend. Anyone will enjoy to stay here.

  • John’s place was a great place to stay in NY. It is super convenient as it’s located right near the subway and is close to soho, nolita etc. The apartment was a good size with all the amenities I needed. I definitely enjoyed the king size bed :). All in all I highly recommend this place, I will definitely stay here again!

  • I stayed at John's place a couple of nights ago and I was really happy with everything, from the brand new, stylish furnishings to the amazing location that's within walking distance to just about everything. The apartment is a good size, perfect for one or two people, and thankfully warm & cozy because it's freezing out.
It was easy to get in, and John was super nice and available to answer questions about the place.
There's a great 24 hour diner right downstairs and an organic grocery store just across the street, plus a ton of awesome restaurants and bars in the neighborhood.
    I highly recommend this place!

  • L'appartement est nickel et très bien placé. Nous n'avons eu aucun problème et le quartier était calme.

    Merci John !
