About this listing
A magical cottage on country property. Close to town but very secluded and private. Virtually everyone who has stayed here has loved it- check our many reviews but please read our listing in its entirety so there are no surprises.
Stay on one of Petaluma's historic chicken ranches! Our goats, miniature donkeys, pony, pig, chickens, and bunnies will welcome you when you arrive. The Cottage features custom built details and character throughout. It is on 2 country acres separate from our main residence and surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens and open space. Private front porch and side garden with seating and gas bbq grill. Many areas to relax and enjoy the sunset. It is an entire cottage with full amenities: Queen bed, washer/dryer, full kitchen, full bath, pellet stove heater, air cooler, wireless Internet, cable TV, stereo. Approx. 30 minutes from the vineyards/wineries. Two miles to charming downtown Petaluma- lots of antique stores, the "Theater District", and many fabulous restaurants. One mile from beautiful Helen Putnam Park- great hiking, mountain bike riding, and sunset picnics. 30 min-1 hour to coast and beaches (Point Reyes National Seashore, Tomales Bay, Dillion Beach, to name just a few.)
Peaceful, very private, clean, and comfortable. A complimentary bottle of local wine is included.
Our cottage is featured in Airbnb's video: "How it works" and you can look for it on youtube.

***Nightly rate applies for up to two guests. There is a 2 night minimum per stay. A charge of $20 per night per additional person is payable upon arrival. The couch is comfortable for sleeping but it does not pull-out into a bed. Monday as holiday weekends require a minimum of (3) nights. Thanksgiving and Christmas historically attract a longer stay- please inquire.
***PLEASE read our "house rules" section*** any questions cheerfully answered :)
We want every guest to rate us 5 stars so if anything at all needs attention or clarification please let us know while you're here. It is disappointing to occasionally read a private comment attached to a review about something that could so easily been addressed and improved the guest's experience.
The cottage of course is entirely yours. Feel free to explore the grounds, gardens, and meet the animals (from a logically safe distance).
A short, gentle uphill hike from the driveway is the most direct route that guests opt for. There is an alternative, more developed pathway that involves steps and a winding amble past our chicken aviary and on to the cottage. If you have mobility issues please consider this and feel free to inquire before booking.
It is possible that we may not be home to greet you at check-in. We do provide details in your booking confirmation/itinerary to make it easy for you to let yourselves in and be comfortable. We will catch up with you as soon as possible to make sure that you are at ease in our cottage.
Interaction with Guests
We're friendly, helpful, and very busy people. Depending upon your arrival time it is possible we will not be home at check-in so please read your reservation confirmation/itinerary as it contains details to help you find us and get settled. We give you all the privacy you desire but are happy to chat with you. We enjoy getting to know a little about every guest.
Our location is private, secluded, and safe. Everyone around us lives on at least two acres. Please refrain from interacting with our neighbors and respect their privacy. The neighborhood has a rural feel but is just a mile and a half from all the action in Petaluma including many excellent restaurants and eateries. We're happy to make recommendations if you have something specific in mind.
Don't rely on public transportation to get to our place. You'll likely need a car although we did have one guest who came and went on his bicycle for a week! If you are flying in there is an airport bus that will bring you into town from SFO or Oakland. Look up Sonoma Airport Express for details. The bus driver can arrange for a taxi to meet you in Petaluma. If you hire a driver to tour the wineries ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) for this service if interested) please let us know in advance.
Other Things to Note
Parking is limited and to reduce car traffic in consideration of our neighbors, please check with us before inviting your family/friends to visit you during your stay with us.
We have upgraded our wifi in response to guest feedback. The signal is now strong and secure. There is also an ethernet cable if you prefer a wired connection.
Please leave your shoes by the door so that our country dirt, grass, plums, and burrs stay outside (you may want to bring along your favorite slippers to wear inside only.) Check out is 11am but if you need more time please ask for later- its usually fine if we don't have a guest arriving immediately after you. There is no smoking in the cottage or on the grounds. Please refrain from using strong fragrances. Guests arriving after you may have sensitivities to lingering scents. Thanks!
There are books to read and games to play during your stay but please leave them here for others to enjoy.
The pellet stove needs cleaning/re-fueling and indoor plants need watering. We typically do this when you are out so as not to disturb you but if you prefer to be present just let us know.
Home owner in Petaluma, CA with a cottage rental on our property (see "Wine Country Cottage). Very well behaved kids and much cleaner than the average bear. :)
