This listing is for a private bedroom in my loft. No other guests are in your room. The kitchen, living room, and two bathrooms are shared with the other guests and me. I provide you with fresh sheets and towels for your stay, and you’ll have your own shelf in the kitchen for food and in the bathroom for your toiletries.
The room is 200 square feet with an 80sqft mezzanine loft with a queen size bed, full size bed, metro shelves, desk and skylight.
Situated in the hippest part of Greenpoint Brooklyn, my loft is convenient to both Manhattan and Williamsburg. A true factory loft conversion, it's 2200 square feet (204 square meters) in a former box factory. I’ve renovated it into a great live/work space, having all of the common loft niceties such as high ceilings, brick walls, wood floors and HUGE bedrooms. Home to more cafés, bars, restaurants, and boutique shops than I could possibly list, Greenpoint holds it's own even before being a hop skip and a jump from Williamsburg. A quick search of Franklin St, Greenpoint Ave, or Manhattan Ave. should yield a great deal of information about my neighborhood.
G train 2 blocks away – don’t believe the hate it gets, the G train is FINE
B62 bus at the end of my block – takes you right to Williamsburg and beyond..
B43 bus at the same stop – takes you to Bushwick and beyond..
Java car service at the end of my block – great luxury cars, good prices
Yellow taxis are a common sight in my neighborhood
East River Ferry 3 blocks away – connections to midtown, Wall St, and Brooklyn waterfront neighborhoods via the East River.
There is a vacant lot 2 blocks away where you can leave your car indefinitely without having to move it. Otherwise, there is parking just outside my place, but it’s subject to alternate side parking rules.
NOTE: By booking you are agreeing to abide by the house rules and to arrange for some kind of communication (cellphone is best) for check-in purposes.
There are CATS here. I know it says so already in the listing, but some people don't read the entire listing, so I feel it's important to put it here at the beginning. They are very mellow and un-intrusive, but they are still cats. If you don't like cats, be sure to read the full listing on any property you look at to avoid confusion.

Lou is an excellent host and staying in his apartment is a true Brooklyn experience. It's a huge, charming loft in a still-working industrial building in one of the best neighborhoods in the city (according to New York Magazine!). Despite the industrial nature of the building, it was incredibly quiet - we all got the best sleep in those comfy beds. The room was HUGE and definitely roomy enough for three guests. Two bathrooms means that you never have to wait and clean sheets and towels were provided. We loved his two cats and they are part-Siamese so even though one of us is allergic, it was totally cool. Finally, Lou himself was a great host - he provided tips for the neighborhood and was very pleasant and easy going. We would definitely stay here again!
We stayed at Lou's loft for 8 days and had a wonderful time. I feel that we were very blessed in finding our "home" for the week. The "G" train was just a couple of blocks away and with a map and an app, you could figure out how to get anywhere. While Manhattan is busy and always hustling and bustling we were always happy to go "home". Lou was a wonderful host, very friendly, informative, talented and just really cool. I definitely want to come back and share this experience with my friends. The loft is big enough that you could probably house 10 people in the three rooms that are available.
Having two bathrooms was fantastic, we never had to wait. The other guests that were in the home were always very sweet and respectful of each other.
The kitchen was nice. It was great to have the ability to save even more money by doing some grocery shopping at the beginning of the week. We would have breakfast in, most days, sometimes pack a lunch, and have a midnight snack without going broke.
The cats were sweet and very friendly. Sage is fond of sleeping up on the loft :). Quinn was more mellow.
My one and only recommendation would be installing locks on the bedroom door. I feel as though the different guests all respected each other and each others rooms, but just for security sake, I would have liked having a lock, especially when you are out of the room for the most part.
Thanks Lou! You really helped to make our first trip to NYC fantastic and unforgettable. Seeing you play the drums with your band was fun, as well. It made us feel like we were entrenched in the NYC/Brooklyn experience.
As this is a trusted community, I will tell my honest point of view, all pros and cons:
Lou is a nice guy, very flexible (he even hold our suitcases for a week whilst we were in Toronto). He seemed to have a good knowledge of everything and he is concerned about the party and noise of one of neighbors. He is also very accessible and good in communication.
Cats were extemely nice, we didn't have to feed them but feeding them was making me part of the flat/loft. They tried to go to my bed but just tell them and they will let you be.
Location was convenient, easy ride to/from Mahattan and Williamsburg, quiet and safe street (beside the neighbor). Convenient stores steps away and subway is 2 blocks away. It's a loft style in a converted factory but don't expect a stylish designer loft as it's not. If you are a clean freak, don't book this loft as it's not one of it's best asset. In our case the cats sandbox was in front which gave a terrible odour after 3 days staying and we stayed for another 4 days so we couldn't open our room to ventilate as there were no windows. But there 2 beds and plenty of space for suitcases and stuff.
The apartment was great. We had a wonderful time. Lou is a very nice and funny host and he has the two most adorable cats in the world. The location is awesome. The Subway is just around the corner and the neighborhood has great places to eat aswell.
We'll definitely come back!
Second time I came to see Lou and I had again a great stay.
Thanks for having been super helpful with my arrival.
See you next time
It was everything that we expected and more. We had a wonderful time at Lou's apartment. We'd always come back!!!
There was no issue arriving late. Lou arranged for us to pick up the keys at a local laundromat.
It was easy finding the apartment, thanks to Lou's thorough description. Even though there were other guests living there we never met anyone. Although, always in good company with his beautiful and very cozy cats.
The apartment really is beautiful. A very authentic NY loft in a great neighborhood. The room was also really spacious.
There were two small downsides. The insane heat. And the smell of old cat pee. And the combination of those was not a good thing. This was probably because of Lou being out of town.
Thanks for having us, Lou!
The best thing about this loft is that Lou has two extremely loving, super adorable cats.
No, seriously though, Lou's loft is filled with love, quirky furnishings, d-i-y character and overall cleanliness and a warm fuzzy spacious feeling. The loft, is literally warmed and day-lit, a beautiful place to be in.
Lou also gave me a very sweet, very pleasant introduction to the place over the phone (the keys pick-up is painless) as he was away for the weekend. There is everything you need in the space, and Lou is communicative as a host.
The apartment is great. Light, safe, pretty clean and close to lots of cool places to eat/drink. The river ferry is only minutes walk away and the G train is close too. Nice neighbourhood. Thanks Lou.
Really great simple place. Good location with easy access to the G to the L, I never had a very long subway route to get anywher. Lou is a very helpful host, and was able to answer all my questions. Recommended if you want somewhere affordable just outside the city.
