The Space

La Casita del Rio is located in the Osa Peninsula, southwest Costa Rica where the rainforest meets the sea. It is one of the most remote, most spectacular and wildest regions in the country. One of the last places in Costa Rica to be settled, it has been dubbed Costa Rica's last wilderness frontier. Rich in wildlife, sparsely populated and until recently very difficult to access by road. Consequently much of the peninsula is still covered in majestic, pristine rainforest. Dominated by Corcovado National Park which protects most of the peninsula, the Osa supports more then fifty percent of the animal and plant species that live in Costa Rica. National Geographic has described the Osa as, "The most biologically intense place on earth".

Guest Access

La Casita del Rio is a charming little chalet with a beautiful garden that you will often find iguanas snacking on the various different fruit dropping from the trees. Scarlet macaws and toucans are sure to be there as well, perhaps a howler monkey to wake you in the morning. Right next to the Rio Tigre, this home has a clear view of the surrounding jungle, ideal for bird watching. La Casita del Rio is located on the edge of some of the last lowland tropical rainforests left in Central America, a very special place indeed. At night enjoy star gazing from from your hammock on the newly built patio. You must pass the river by foot or may pass with a 4x4 vehicle from December to August. La Casita del Rio is only a five minute walk from the village shop and bus stop to the "city".

Interaction with Guests

Within the Osa you will find Dos Brazos, a town with a rich history and an even more prosperous future. Not more than 30 years ago, gold, and lots of it, was Dos Brazos’ claim to fame. Today Dos Brazos is a sleepy little village of just 175 inhabitants that lies in the richest location you can imagine, right at the border of the world famous Corcovado National Park, with a brand new park entrance coming in 2014! Although gold mining is still practiced, the real wealth of the area is the captivating biodiversity found in the last remaining lowland tropical rainforests of Central America.

The Neighborhood

It’s a small oasis of civilization, surrounded by the jungle of the forest reserve that encompasses Corcovado. Although it’s a short 12-kilometer ride from the beautiful Pacific beaches of Puerto Jimenez, and just a little further from great wave riding in Matapalo, it’s a town that is barely known on the tourist circuit. From Dos Brazos you’ll find extensive walking trails into the jungle, with many waterfalls to see, world class birding, horseback riding, gold mining tours, and more are all available. There are two small grocers, a bar, and a Soda (diner). So get off the beaten path, and make your way to Dos Brazos del Rio Tigre!

  • We loved this experience! To say that Tristan is a host who will go above and beyond in order to insure his guests' comfort and enjoyment is an understatement. During our time in Dos Brazos, Tristan set up tours and trips for us, including obtaining access for us to visit the brand new Dos Brazos Corcovado National Park Entrance, a definite trip highlight. Tristan made us feel like members of this very special community, and we were sad to leave. The house itself is amazing. If you're looking for creative rustic luxury, this place is ideal. Instead of an average cabin in the woods, it's a thoughtfully designed chalet- style sanctuary located next to a beautiful river amidst some of Costa Rica's most gorgeous forests. The house was immaculately clean, the decor was inspired, the amenities were extremely comfortable, and the location provided the perfect amount of rugged charm for our adventurous spirits. The grounds were also beautiful and well-kept. You could easily book La Casita for a weekend and then never want to leave once you arrived. It was a pleasure to rent from Tristan, and we look forward to visiting him again!

  • Having stayed in several places on the Osa Peninsula, La Casita del Rio had the most character and attention to detail. It's a lovely house, in a beautiful lush setting. Bird and reptile watching is outstanding. Tristan is extremely accommodating and friendly. He really goes the extra distance to make your stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. The area is remote and quiet. We rented a car for our stay, which was optimal. The village has a couple of bars and people are friendly. The area is connected to the electricity grid and the hot shower is great. Walking distance to incredible rainforest, waterfalls, nice view of golfo dulce. Be prepared to relax, disconnect and enjoy nature!

  • Absolutely amazing experience. Tristan was so helpful in sharing with us recommendations for Costa Rica. The casita has an amazing view of hills. There were way more amenities than we were expecting. We woke up to the sound of macaws and went hiking in the jungle nearby.
