House Rules

Welcome, Bienvenidos

Please note that we really prefer not to receive guests after 6:00 pm. If you're driving from an area that is far away (we advise you that driving times are usually much longer then what you might think) then take your time and enjoy the drive, no need to rush, you're on holiday!

In an effort to conserve energy and respect the environment turn off everything when not in use, do not forget the lights and fans.

Casa Aire Libre is located in the Forest Reserve of the Corcovado National Park and many amazing creatures live here. A word of caution: some of them are dangerous. Make sure that you bring a head lamp and or flashlight. Always carry a lamp at night and use caution when walking in the jungle.

There is no rubbish service in the jungle and we recycle what we can. We ask that you separate recyclable items and use the appropriate bins provided. Please do not bring plastic drinking water bottles, we have some of the best water in Costa Rica!

Bring one bottle for your drinking water and re-use it, we love our beautiful jungle paradise and want to keep that way!

Just like in much of Costa Rica, our septic tank is unable to handle any paper or feminine products so we ask that you place these things in the bin provided next to the toilet.

We would appreciate it if you would not smoke inside the house.

Although we have never had problems in the past, always take precaution and put your valuables in the security safe.

When staying with us at Casa Aire Libre we want you to consider it your home for as long as your vacation lasts, and we are sure you will love it and treat it as if it is your own.

Pura Vida,

Tristan

Casa Libre is a great spot situated at the end of a road, next to the river, in the middle of nature. We were impressed by the good kitchen equipment. Tristan is a very enthusiastic caretaker. Who makes you feel at home very easy. And lives next door so is easy to reach when you need something.

Casa Aire Libre was a really incredible experience. The house has no walls. You're literally living in the jungle, but along with some other people nearby in this little town called Dos Brazos. Waking up to monkeys and the beautiful songs of stunning birds and insects and frogs and the river...Oh I miss that so much! I slept better than I have in years on the hammocks there. It was incredibly peaceful and refreshing. The garden has 40 different varities of fruit and so many varieties of orchids! We also took a walk down the river to a tiny little waterfall. We also did a night hike with the amazingly passionate and patient ROGER of Ficus Tours who we hired once again later for a hike through the Corcovado national park. Please make sure you wear rain boots for these hikes! The bathroom is an outhouse and in the garden. Look where you're walking. There are apparently snakes but we saw none around. If you're scared of snakes, just know that they're not interested in humans in anyway. So just as long as you don't trouble them or step on them, you'll be absolutely fine. There were several books with amazing and detailed information. Make sure to read the instructions if you feel unsure of anything. Also make sure to buy all of your groceries before you head there. There's nothing closeby really. PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW THE GPS to the co-ordinates when headed to this place. I can't insist on that enough. And try and get there in the day time. Just follow Tristan's detailed instructions and once you've found the Rio Tigre Bridge, it's fairly simple. A 4 wheel drive is a must. Tristan and Val were wonderful and very helpful. They are deeply passionate about the local community and the environment. I fell sick on one of the nights and they were kind enough to come check on me and bring me some fruit! This place is truly special. I can see why Tristan and Val just dropped everything and moved here.

Response from Tristan:
A real pleasure to meet Priya and Max and appreciate the detailed review! I just would like to make a note that the bathroom is not an outhouse, but a flushing toilet in a bathhouse adjacent to the main house. Some people may get thrown off by stuff like that...lol!

The property is absolutely gorgeous ! On arrival Tristan was very friendly and welcoming, he lives just next door to the property. Very informative of the area and surroundings, also organized a local tour guide to take us through the national park. If wanting to explore this beautiful region and escape to your own piece of paradise then this is the place ! Tristan also booked us in at the local soda cafe for dinner one night and the local food was brilliant and very cheap. Would definitely return if we manage to make it back to Costa Rica in the future.

The Casa Aire Libre is simply magnificent! The jungle sounds-lullaby, the beautiful birds and howls of monkeys, the amazing mornings with beautiful sunrises and awakening nature, rainforest showers (the real one) and lots of interesting house guests (walking leaf, gecko, cute little toads). Accompanied by to the ever present sound of the Rio Tigre this place is a sheer dream full of good energy. Hope to come back soon! Pura Vida :)

Tristan's advice and genuine care for his guest to enjoy their trip was very evident even long before we arrived. He helped us set up our trip into Corcovado which we loved (our guide Anja was very kind and knowledgeable). Tristan was available to answer any questions we had, and also just to have good conversation :) Casa Aire Libre is, believe it or not, more beautiful in person than in the pictures. There are so many birds, insects, flora, and more right outside of the house. Sleeping on the top floor with the sounds of the rainforest surrounding us is something we will never forget! Not to mention, the town of Dos Brazos is absolutely charming, and and all of the people there are some of the most kind-hearted you will ever meet. The Bolitas hiking trails right behind the house were gorgeous, we saw lots of monkeys, birds, frogs, butterflies, and a white-nosed coati family. Our stay here was the absolute highlight of our trip. If you are even slightly considering going, do yourself the favor and DO IT!!! May everyone who continues to visit the Osa treat it as the sacred land that it is. Thanks, Tristan! We will be back :)
