About this listing

Casa Aire Libre is a two-story, open air rustic home truly one with nature, located in the forest reserve of the world famous Corcovado National Park with a brand new park entrance opened in February 2015!

The space

Casa Aire Libre is located in the Osa Peninsula, southwest Costa Rica where the rainforest meets the sea. It is one of the most remote, most spectacular and wildest regions in the country. One of the last places in Costa Rica to be settled, it has been dubbed Costa Rica's last wilderness frontier. Rich in wildlife, sparsely populated and until recently very difficult to access by road. Consequently much of the peninsula is still covered in majestic, pristine rainforest. Dominated by Corcovado National Park which protects most of the peninsula, the Osa supports more then fifty percent of the animal and plant species that live in Costa Rica. National Geographic has described the Osa as, "The most biologically intense place on earth".

While you are staying at Casa Aire Libre you will have the feeling to be in the middle of the jungle with no one else around yet the property manager is only a few minutes away. Tucked away on 30+ acres you will discover the wonders of the tropical rainforest, such as leaf cutter ants, the white-nosed coati and the explosive diversity of bird species; Toucans, Scarlet Macaws, Motmots and Trogons just to name a few. At night you will fall asleep to the sounds of howler monkeys in the distance and the Rio Tigre right outside your house.

Welcome, Bienvenidos

Please note that we really prefer not to receive guests after 6:00 pm. If you're driving from an area that is far away (we advise you that driving times are usually much longer then what you might think) then take your time and enjoy the drive, no need to rush, you're on holiday!

In an effort to conserve energy and respect the environment turn off everything when not in use, do not forget the lights and fans.

Casa Aire Libre is located in the Forest Reserve of the Corcovado National Park and many amazing creatures live here. A word of caution: some of them are dangerous. Make sure that you bring a head lamp and or flashlight. Always carry a lamp at night and use caution when walking in the jungle.

There is no rubbish service in the jungle and we recycle what we can. We ask that you separate your garbage and dispose of accordingly in the appropriate bins provided and please do not bring plastic drinking water bottles, we have some of the best water in Costa Rica! Bring one bottle for your drinking water and re-use it, we love our beautiful jungle paradise and want to keep that way!

Just like in much of Costa Rica, our septic tank is unable to handle any paper or feminine products so we ask that you place these things in the bin provided next to the toilet.

We would appreciate it if you would not smoke inside the house.

Although we have never had problems in the past, always take precaution and put your valuables in the security safe.

When staying with us at Casa Aire Libre we want you to consider it your home for as long as your vacation lasts, and we are sure you will love it and treat it as if it is your own.

Pura Vida,

Tristan

Tristan's advice and genuine care for his guest to enjoy their trip was very evident even long before we arrived. He helped us set up our trip into Corcovado which we loved (our guide Anja was very kind and knowledgeable). Tristan was available to answer any questions we had, and also just to have good conversation :) Casa Aire Libre is, believe it or not, more beautiful in person than in the pictures. There are so many birds, insects, flora, and more right outside of the house. Sleeping on the top floor with the sounds of the rainforest surrounding us is something we will never forget! Not to mention, the town of Dos Brazos is absolutely charming, and and all of the people there are some of the most kind-hearted you will ever meet. The Bolitas hiking trails right behind the house were gorgeous, we saw lots of monkeys, birds, frogs, butterflies, and a white-nosed coati family. Our stay here was the absolute highlight of our trip. If you are even slightly considering going, do yourself the favor and DO IT!!! May everyone who continues to visit the Osa treat it as the sacred land that it is. Thanks, Tristan! We will be back :)

Everything was great, like everyone else has said! I aspire to go everywhere, so there are really veil few places I desire to go twice, but casa aire libre is one of the very few! Every day we could see and hear scarlet macaws flying overhead, howler monkeys in the trees, etc. It was *magical.* We will be back! Thanks for everything, Tristan!

Sometimes when you book lodging online you worry that the place won't live up to the website photos. From the moment Tristan greeted us, our idyllic stay began. The tiny town of Dos Brazos and the Rio Tigre were the best possible introduction to real Costa Rica. Casa Aire Libre is a beautiful open air home, complete with a tree top bedroom on the third floor and an assortment of hammocks. The house was the perfect blend of necessary amenities and jungle rustic - even for a non-camper like myself. There was no AC but I honestly didn't miss it. You are completely immersed in the diverse, special wildlife of the Osa Peninsula wherever you are in the home. Toads regularly stopped by in the evening and a rainbow birds came to visit all throughout the day. We came at the end of the dry season, so mosquitoes were not prevalent, another bonus. The hiking trails start just outside your door and the river is just meters away. We also enjoyed an amazing night hike with Roger. Tristan had mentioned he is one of the best guides in the area and in my opinion, that is an undisputable. We saw several frogs, countless insects, and even a few snakes. I left in awe of his knowledge. (He did grow up there). All of this above was more than one could ask for, until Tristan arranged for Zulay to come and give in-home massages and facials. I cannot recommend Casa Aire Libre, Osa, Tristan, and Roger enough if you want to experience a truly uniquely Costa Rican vacation. P.S. Be sure to follow Tristan's directions exactly. Don't rely on GPS using Maps.

Casa Air Libre was so lovely! A peaceful place to enjoy the sounds and sights of jungle living. Close to Corcovado, and Bolita trails, there is an adveture to be had everyday here.. Tristan was so awesome in helping us plan our days here with much to choose from. There are endless abandoned beaches anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour drive, waterfalls, river pools and hikes into the reserves area with amazing guides like Roger. We thouroughly enjoyed our time in Doz Brazos, a sleepy little town of very friendly people, and Puerto Jimenez, only 30 minutes drive away is a lovely bigger town with all amenities, restaurant, veggie/fruit markets, etc.. all you could possible need! The outdoor living was awesome, and we miss sharing our main living space with the toads that visited every evening! Thanks Tristan!

Tristan welcomed us with a beer and from the first moment we felt welcome. He wants the best trip for his costumers and you should trust in his Tipps! Also he has very good connections to the locals. The house was clean and nice and the Kitchen was very good fitted with stuff you need like Coffee and Spices. You are in the middle of the jungle and you will see a lot of animals there.

Had a wonderful time at Casa Aire Libre and wished we had booked an additional night, was just too short! The property was beautiful, loved the outdoor shower, hammocks, the decor and being immersed in nature. Tristan and his neighbor, Valle were very nice.

We absolutely loved staying in Casa Aire Libre! Words cannot describe how amazing it was to wake up completely surrounding by nature sounds every night. Completely private and clean, it felt like a total relaxing escape from every day life. Tristan was so helpful answering all our questions and arranging all the tours! We loved doing the Corcovoda hike, night hike, and dolphin tour! A 30 min drive to Puerto Jimenez, was made easy with our 4x4 rental car, which I would recommend. We cannot wait to come back!
