An old Berlin-syle building ( 1870s) with a bright room for yourself, renovated bathroom and a calm neighborhood with a nice coffee bar, few restaurants, a tiny organic supermarket and a frequent public transport five stops to Alexanderplatz.
I love design, colours and unique objects and I love to travel myself. That is why I share my guestroom, which is bright, 26 squaremeters and typical for an old and original Berlin building from 1890s. The furniture is displayed on the photos, but the bed is a double-bed now, suitable for two people. The bathroom is modern and renovated, the kitchen small but functional.
Enjoy my furniture as if it was yours:. I use the room (which of course has its own door and privacy) as a guestroom for friends or as living room while its not rented. Therefore you find my books on the shelf and my favourite furniture there.
There is a functional bike waiting for you and a rental-shop down the street, if you come as a couple, and need another one.
We share the modern bathroom, towels will be provided as well as shampoo or showergel in case you need some.
The kitchen and fridge are at your disposal, too.
You can use spices and basic kitchen stuff like oil or butter. On your first day you can make yourself espresso or porridge before you go on your first grocery shopping tour.
During summer it is nice to sit in the backyard of the house or relax in the hammock in the garden.
Interaction with Guests
Sometimes we exchange recipes, music, interesting thoughts, sometimes we just respect each others privacy or have one tea together on arrival, if we feel like it.
Victoria-Kiez, where I live is a pre-cool area of Berlin, where gentrification has just started. I like the mixture of little village and metropolitan life. Down my street is a very good bagel and espresso bar, few restaurants, the best icecream in town :-) and a supermarket, which is open until 10 p.m. even on saturdays - which is not so common in germany. There a two stores selling organic food (and vegan groceries) within 5-10 minutes walk.
For the visual hunger there are two art galleries down the streets and if you like nightlife you are within 10 bicycle minutes of "about blank", "Wilde Renate" and "sysiphos", three places to be if you are into Berlin electronic music scene. Berghain is 20 bicycle minutes away.
Very frequent and straight connection to "the centre": 10 minutes to Alexanderplatz and 20 minutes to Brandenburger Tor by S-Bahn.
The S-Bahn-Stop Nöldnerplatz connects you directly and frequently with the whole city (10 Minutes to Alexanderplatz, 15 Minutes to Friedrichstraße) until 1 a.m at night. Trains run every 5 minutes and during weekends all night long (during night about every 15-30 Minutes).
There is no parking fee in my neighbourhood (yet) and depending on your arrival time it is easy to find a parking lot. In the evenings it is harder than during day.
If you arrive by plane, it takes 45 minutes to my place (both Tegel and Schönefeld), by
train 20 minutes from the Central Station.
Other Things to Note
You will be sharing the apartment with me and two cats (Mrs. Konrad and Kasimir).
I would like you to enjoy and respect the room and the flat as if it was yours. It is not a hotel, it is a home- for me and for you during your stay. It is a nice gesture if you take off your shoes in the apartment, but it is no obligation.
So far 80 guests have stayed at my place and brought a lot of interesting thoughts, impressions, recipes and shared experiences into my life! I am looking forward to every new guest.
I love nature and I try not to spoil water and energy but that does not mean that I never do long showers or a bath once in a while.
If you like to smoke you can use an open window in the hallway or take a seat in the garden.
Very highly recommended. I really enjoyed my brief stay at Katja's. She was very friendly and helpful. The perfect host!
Katja is very friendly and was always willing to help.
Katja's flat is very well located and easily reached from either airports, clean and spacious.
Ha, and she has two lovely cats!
Katja's place was incredible. The room was clean and comfortable and the neighborhood was very quiet - a short walk to the train or anywhere you'd want to go in Friedrichshain.
Katja was also very accommodating and pleasant to be around. I would recommend staying with her.
I had a simply amazing stay at Katja's place! She is a really open minded and joyful person. I can recommend it truly! The bike she offers is perfect for visiting the city of Berlin! Your really close to the SBahn and Ringbahn and therefore fast everywhere you wanna go in the city. Her place is quiet and charming. Don't hesitate. You won't be disappointed!
Die Wohnung liegt optimal in der schönen Kaskelstrasse (Ostberlin) und ist sehr gemütlich. Katja war sehr freundlich, unkompliziert, hilfsbereit und ihre Katzen sind sehr süß!
I stayed at Katja for 5 days at January. The weather in Berlin wasn't very nice, but in the flat at Kaskelstrasse I always could find warm and calm atmosphere. The high-ceiling room at the evening was full of soft light from lamps with paper cowers and details (like modern art panels, small figures of childeren choir, x-mas balls, paper-butterflies) gave the home-feeling.
Katia is pretty tidy and seems in love with design.
Besides, her flat is very quiet, even inspite of two lovely cats, who came to me almost every evening and tenderly purred while were rubbed.
Thanks alot for warm welcome and hospitality.
I am still digging for gold in this city and every now and then something shiny showes up: A new location, a live tune somewhere on the street or other golddiggers who tell interesting stories.
