My stay at the Buena Vista was for 3 nights and I enjoyed being there. The location perched on the side of a high hill was great and my favorite spot was in the "observatory" on the tip top of the building complete with hammock and ocean view!! A great place for a "sundowner" and watching the birds soaring right above your head. I chatted with Jay a bit and he was friendly with some good stories. Penny and Chester, who actually managed Buena Vista, were delightful and Penny solved every "emergency" from needing a cutting board to a cork screw :)
The room was clean and as represented. My only disappointment was that there were not more windows, I am a person who loves light and lot's of windows to let in the light and breeze. Since I was gone most of the day, this really wasn't an issue but I would ask for a different room next time if there was one available with a view and more windows.
The outdoor shower was awesome as were the hammocks and hanging chairs conveniently placed in front of your door.
I would stay again and recommend Buena Vista.
My friend and I had a lot of fun staying at Buena Vista Villas.
First of all, Jay is a really nice guy. He was super helpful when we were trying to figure out a way to get to Santa Teresa (our next destination). He also gave us surfing lessons and had surf boards we could rent.
The room itself was quite nice too. Comfortable and clean. There was no AC in our room but the fan kept us cool at night, so we slept comfortably. There is a mini kitchen and basic cooking utensils. We were able to make a few simple meals.
There is an observatory deck on the property and the view is breathtaking. There are hammocks around and we enjoyed lying/sitting in one while we read.
The only reason I gave my experience a four star and not a five is because of the location. We did not have a car so we found it difficult to get to some places. We tried to rent a car (went to Toyota rent a car, National, and Economy) but none of the companies had cars we could rent. Part of that was because we only decided to rent a car after we got to Nosara. If you know you want to rent a car beforehand, you could reserve ahead of time and a car will be there for you (or I presume).
The roads in the area is quite dusty and so if you are thinking of biking or walking, I definitely recommend bringing a mask. If you don't mind paying, Jay can always call for a cab, or give you the number of good cab drivers in the area. The cost is usually about $10-15 if you want a ride to/from anywhere in the Guiones/Nosara area.
Some people don't mind the walk back to the Villa, but we found it quite exhausting. We are both relatively fit, but the walk up a dusty hill was unpleasant.
I think that if we were to repeat this trip again, we would rent a car and drive to places. We would definitely stay at the Buena Vista Villa again! It was superb :)
Jay was more than accommodating during my 4 night stay. The property is well maintained with a panoramic view of the ocean and mountains from the top. Great place to enjoy the view and sounds of the forest while swinging lazily on one of many hammocks.
Buena Vista Villas was everything we could have asked for. Great location with amazing views of surrounding forest, mountains, and ocean. Jay was the perfect host - friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful before, during, and after our visit. We upgraded to Villa 6, which faced the ocean and had a private balcony. We loved taking naps in the hammock while listening to the sounds of nature and talking with Jay. We'll miss it!
