The space
Wren House is a comfortable residence exclusively dedicated to the Air BnB guest. Located near the Route 151 attractions in the Rockfish Valley of Central Virginia, it is in a beautiful mountain setting on a winding country road. Views of the Blue Ridge mountains and a pasture are had from the back porch. Sit around the fire pit. It is quiet and peaceful with many stars and the Milky Way visible most nights.
The house is perfect for reunions, family headquarters for exploring the Blue Ridge and Charlottesville region, game weekends, trips to Wintergreen, wineries (and breweries and distilleries), and retreats. Charlottesville is about a 35 minute drive and it is 10 minutes to Nellysford. Wintergreen Resort is 16 miles away.
Guest access
Just a two and a half miles from Route 151 down a winding country road, the private paved driveway gently slopes up to a generous parking area. The main floor consists of a dining area, kitchen, three of the bedrooms and two full baths plus a half bath, large porch and deck, and sitting areas. Downstairs, find a cozy Jotul stove and hearth, family room and TV, two bedrooms, and full bath. There is also a second kitchen downstairs with another refrigerator, storage, and stove. (see plans)
Other things to note
Wren House has been artfully upgraded and modernized. Clean, luxury bedding, upgraded bathrooms, and tasteful furnishings make the dwelling unique and inviting. It has space for common meals, and comfortable tucked away corners for reading or getting to those emails.
There is a resident wren and a community of finches, nuthatches, cardinals, chickadees, and sparrows, who will entertain or the price of a few seeds if you have coffee or lunch outdoors. Deer and turkey are frequent visitors in the pasture. Beyond, the view from the porch is of The Priest and Three Ridges peaks and where the Appalachian Trail wends its way along the Blue Ridge.
Nearby, are popular hikes, bike trails, and watering holes, including Cardinal Point Winery, Blue Mountain Brewery and Devil’s Backbone breweries, Silverback Distillery, and Wintergreen resort. The Rockfish Valley Community Center is close by and hosts the best coffee roasters in the region, Traeger Brothers, gift shops, and music. Most Saturday mornings the Farmers Market is open in Nellysford, just a quick drive from the house along with a small supermarket, hardware, automotive stores, and restaurants.
Rockfish Gap is just up the mountain for excursions along the Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge parkway, to Swannanoa, and dozens of trails. We leave suggestions in the house handbook. Just down the other side of the mountain are Rockfish Gap Outfitters, Blue Ridge Kombucha (try the Elderberry), and the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Waynesboro, and Staunton. Not far to the north and east is Charlottesville, with all the American history, architecture, fine dining, shopping, great music, and entertainment you can fit in. Of course, don’t miss the famous downtown walking mall with its bookstores, boutiques, unique shops, art galleries, cafés, theaters, and street performers.
