Funtana Meiga, Sardegna, Italy

Funtana Meiga means Healing/Magic Fountain, while the ancient Fountain has been swallowed by the sea, the magic and healing atmosphere remains. The main beach and its many secluded little coves are pristine and the sea water is crystalline. The village is ideally located between San Giovanni di Sinis, the ruins of the ancient city of Tharros just a shot away and the protected Park of Seu. Funtana Meiga, being in the southern part of the beautiful Sinis Peninsula, is part of the Protected Marine area of Sinis and the island of Mal di Ventre (Malu Entu in Sardinian); it is in the territory of Cabras (just 9 km away) and in the Province of Oristano (about 17 km away). The Sinis Peninsula is an area of great naturalistic and archeological importance with its Parks and lagune, home of the Pink Flamingos and great for birdwatching, not to be missed the already mentioned ancient town of Tharros and the mysterious Giants of Mont'e Prama on display in the museum of Cabras.
The area is great for walks, trekking, biking, snorkelling and all aquatic sports, in particular Funtana Meiga is a Mecca for windsurfers and kitesurfers.
In the village there is a Beach bar restaurant pizzeria and a small supermarket selling a wide variety of goods ranging from souvenirs to beach equipment, magazines and most importantly a great selection of local delicacies and wines/liqueurs.
The beach and sea in Funtana Meiga are very beautiful but if you wanted to you could go to a different beach every day, here are my picks: the Istmo (isthmus) in San Giovanni di Sinis with its wild beach on the open sea on one side and the so called Dead Sea (mare morto) on the other side where you can have the unique experience of bathing and sunbathing just below the ruins of the ancient town of Tharros, the silence and peace of this place is unmatchable.
Next, the very unique quartz beaches: the enchanting Is Arutas (listed amongst the 11 world most beautiful beaches by Vanity Fair Traveller), the larger beach of Mari Ermi/Porto Suedda both at about 20 minutes by car from Casa Vela Meiga and last but not least Maimoni is only 10 minutes away from Funtana Meiga at the other extremity of the Park of Seu. Another spectacular view is offered by the Arch at S'Archittu, a big natural arch carved in white rock by the sea (about 30 minutes by car).
Make a trip at Santa Cristina in Paulilatino where a real gem awaits you: a nuragic sanctuary with its sacred well, symbolising the Great Mother womb is a architectonic wonder and a magic place.
The Unesco World Heritage site of Su Nuraxi in Barumini is just about 80 km away from Funtana Meiga and the journey take about 55 minutes.
If you enjoy the nightlife Torregrande (just 10 minutes away) is a good place to go.
For music lovers there are many concerts with international artists which take place in spectacular locations like Tharros, Il Parco dei Suoni (the Park of Sounds) or the Piazza Cattedrale (Cathedral Square) in Oristano.
We have a longstanding tradition for arts and craft like ceramics (Oristano is the city of ceramics),
textiles and filigrane jewellery so make a trip into town, which is worth a visit anyway, for some shopping.
This is a piece of real unspoiled Sardinia, still free from big touristic development, ideal if you want to know the soul of a place.
Don't forget events and traditional feasts usually often involving religion, ancient rituals or food: a special mention goes to the centuries old Sa Sartiglia of Oristano (every year sometime in February on the last Sunday and Tuesday of the Carnival) an equestrian festival full of rituals for prosperity and the Feast of San Salvatore (held by the people of Cabras in the picturesque village of San Salvatore) with its barefoot race of male
devotees.
Please visit the gallery to see the pictures of the places mentioned and more.

I am a woman who likes to live life to the full and be true to herself. I follow my dreams and passions putting my heart and soul in whatever I do. I am a local and just got back to my native land after leaving in London for 16 years and also lived in New York for a while. During my years living abroad, I had the privilege to meet people of many different cultures and backgrounds from all over the world and I am now looking forward to continue to do by bringing them all here, that's what I am most excited about with this new adventure with Airbnb. What I most love about travelling is to feel and come to know the soul of the place I visit, that's what I'd love for my guests to experience here in this ancient land full of soul and culture which has been home to some great civilisations and where today lives genuine and welcoming people. As a host, I can offer you the expertise of a local and the passion for sharing the beauty of this piece of paradise coupled with the experience of dealing with people of many different cultures and nationalities, last but not least my natural disposition to care for people. To prepare this apartment has been a labour of love and my greatest reward would be to have happy guests with the place and surroundings.
