Joti's oasis in the historical town of Malacca
We got to Malacca by bus from Singapore. Joti's place is very easy to find and is located in the famous China Town area of Malacca.
We were very warmly welcomed by Joti, who by the way is a very eccentric person. I liked the fact that house is very simple. It has all the basic amenities - clean toilet, bathroom and bedroom along with a washing machine, AC, etc. Considering the fact that this is a 150 years old Chitya house with a courtyard, it very well naturally ventilated. However, at night you have to keep the AC on to keep away the mosquitoes (a common problem in the whole of Malacca).
We were given the whole of the first floor. Joti ensured that we had complete privacy and no disturbance. He is a very helpful person by way of suggesting the best places to eat and visit. He hand drew a map for us with all the locations marked on it. He also introduced us to his Trishaw rider friend Firdaus, who took us around Malacca on a 2 hour long, commented Trishaw ride, explaining the history of Malacca.
Overall, if you appreciate history and architecture, you will love this place.
My bus from Singapore arrived in Melaka after midnight and Joti was kind enough to help me find my way to his place, after a very warm welcome and introduction to the neighborhood, which is only a street away from all the yonker street walk, but surprisingly quiet. I had the entire upstairs + bathroom all to myself. The room leads out to a great balcony. The beautiful room (with aircon) and bathroom were clean and functional. While I was there, Joti invited me to a community party held out in the back alley. Jotis cooking was aaammmaaazing. really. He made me feel totally at home. Part of his little community. Oh and theres a bike rental right around the corner. It was way beyond what i expected. Thanks, Joti!!
We had a whole floor in a very charming and well decorated house. The place is very central but still calm and quiet. Yoti was a great host and advised us wisely on places to visit and to avoid. This was the most amazing room I ever had. I highly recommend this place!
Joti made us feel very welcome the moment we entered his home. It was very hot the day we arrived in Malacca but Joti had our room pre-cooled in anticipation of our arrival. Clean towels and bottled water for the six of us were supplied daily. Joti also prepared a map of his favourite local eats and sights for us to consider. His location is second to none, being 2 short blocks away from the bustle of Jonker Street and its famous night market, and short walking distance to attractions such as the Stadhuys, Little India, Chinatown, Mahkota Parade, Capitol Satay, and a host of other must see/must try places. If you're looking for accommodation in an authentic colonial era house in historical Malacca, hosted by a charming and informative host, look no further than Joti's.
Een heel fijn verblijf! Joti is een unieke en vriendelijke persoonlijkheid. Zijn tips erg fijn. De locatie is super, midden in Chinatown. De kamer erg groot en mooi. Zeker een aanrader.
We felt like we experienced Malcca in Joti's Oasis. His place is extremely accessible & so spacious!
Joti is a great host - he made sure we had our necessities and we found that he lit up mosquito coils for us before we came back to the room at night. It was lovely to know our host cares for us. We had a good time hearing him share a bit of his life with us as well, it added a nice touch to our experience in Malacca! We really enjoyed ourselves :)
Joti is definitely a great host and giving us advice on places to dine in and visit. I personally like nonya style shophouses; is a very different experience from living in city. The whole upper room was super spacious and very private. Is a good getaway from noisy city. Was there with a group of friends, had a great time catching up with beer at night. 3mins walk to the crowded Jonker street. There is a cafe that offer great breakfast just nearby remember to ask Joti for direction.
