Located between Riverside and Oltorf in the heart of Travis Heights, this perfect getaway condo is 15 minute walk to the South Congress Shopping district—Jo's Coffee, The Continental Club, Perla's, Hop Doddy's, as well as Uncommon Objects, Feathers, George's etc. It has easy access to i-35 and only minutes from downtown Austin.
It is a top floor, one bedroom one bath unit situated in a quiet gated community. It has hard wood floors, central AC, vaulted ceilings, convenient onsite laundry facilities, and tranquil pool and bbq area. The unit comes complete with wi-fi, a kick-ass record collection and a flat-screen TV with cable, pandora and netflix blu ray player.
This space is decorated with a mix of hand selected mid-century modern and rustic contemporary furnishings, a Room & Board fold-down sofa, recycled wood coffee table and 50's style tanker desk. It is cozied up with a cowhide rug and assortment of imported ethnic rugs from Iran and Morocco. Sheepskin rugs in the bedroom are soft on the feet.
The bedroom sleeps two people in a full size bed and a comfortable fold down sofa in the living room can accommodate an additional one to two people—personally, we find it more comfortable for one adult only.
The tastefully designed kitchen was upgraded in the last two years and is open to the living room which makes it a very social area to entertain and enjoy meals together.
From the living room, you can slide open the glass doors to enjoy the balcony overlooking the pool.
There is a laundry facility on site but currently no washer/dryer inside the unit.
The unit also comes with a convenient gated parking spot.
Full access to the condo + laundry room + pool and bbq area.
Interaction with Guests
Not much beyond the initial arrangements. Unless something comes up.
Travis Heights is a quiet well kept neighborhood. Big Stacey Pool is nearby, a beautiful creek, and park including dog area. It is also close to freeway access, downtown and S. Congress shopping and dining district.
Parking is included. We prefer to drive when in town and highly recommend it to see all that Austin as to offer...but many guests have rented bikes.
Other Things to Note
PLEASE WRITE and start a dialogue with us BEFORE submitting a booking request. It is much easier for us to manage the listing this way. As opposed to receiving a request and then having to back track. Thank you!
Please respect this house as if it were your parents. No pets please. We try to be considerate to our downstairs neighbors in regards to the noise levels. This is absolutely not a party house. We take off our shoes when entering the house to help with noise and we're conscious of not blasting music at off hours. Based on a previous experience, this isn't the place for a family with young children. As far as the furniture goes--please be respectful and thoughtful—the light colored sofa will stain and shows dirt easily...so be gentle. Thank you!
If you're looking for a cute, stylish and convenient base to explore Austin, then look no further! My partner and I spent an amazing 3 months here and couldn't have asked for a better spot - we regularly walked to HEB for groceries, Sixth St, Rainey St, South Congress and Lady Bird Lake taking in all the sights. A car may be convenient for some, but we loved walking and exploring the neighbourhoods so it was fine for us - and allowed me to walk off some of the delicious food Austin has to offer. The Whip In is right next door and has a fantastic Indian fusion restaurant, draft beers and a full liquor store out the back. Fast wifi and Netflix are both included which was great! Communication with the host was always quick and easy when we needed it (which was rarely necessary, as the apartment has everything you need). We didn't get the chance to meet Sorenne, but her mother-in-law Bonnie welcomed us warmly. This was our first AirBNB experience and we couldn't have asked for anything more - we really miss our little home and would not hesitate to book again if we return to Austin. Thanks for having us!
We stayed at Sorenne and Matt's apartment for one month and enjoyed our time there. The apartment is very cute and well decorated. There is a wonderful record collection which was really fun. The bed is comfy. We loved drinking coffee on the balcony in the morning watching the birds, lizards, and dragonflies. It is very peaceful. Sorenne and her mother-in-law, Bonnie were very nice, responsive, and helpful during our stay.
South Congress, an area with lots of bars, restaurants, shops and music venues, is a 15-20 minute walk from the apartment. However you will want a car as it's hot out and there aren't many sidewalks in Austin. We used Car2Go, which worked out great.
Other than the Whip Inn right next door (which is an amazing restaurant/bar/music venue), there is not much of a neighborhood nearby. If you want to buy groceries or grab a coffee, you'll need to head to south congress.
Overall we enjoyed our stay!
We stayed in Sorenne & Matt's place for almost 1 month. It was decorated very uniquely and we really liked that! The pool was great too, and they have very nice neighbors. Sorenne & Matt were also very pleasant to deal with, and easy to get ahold of. The parking spot was also very close to the unit. Unfortunately there was some bad with the good. I hate to mention these things, because Sorenne was so kind, but I know I like to see honest reviews when I am renting. There were some features we did not anticipate. The fridge had several condiments that expired in 2012, the condo, although very cute, was not very clean overall, there were quite a few incidences with roaches in the bathroom, but they have made an effort to fix this problem, I think. The bed was not comfortable, similar to a fold out couch bed, my fiancé's feet hung off the end and she is 5'9. The laundry room is a bit far, and makes your clothes smell funny and some of the dryers ate our quarters because they just didn't dry our clothing. :( My fiancé's allergies also kicked up a bit, there seems to have been a dog here at some point, judging from the doggy door and kong toy on top of the cabinets in the kitchen.
We were disappointed to read Ryan's review and now have to write this response, but there seem to be some discrepancies and clarifications that need to be outlined. For starters, I think everyone using airbnb should view the host's profiles. Our profile photo is of our dog. It's pretty apparent that we own one. However, our dog doesn't live in the condo and hasn't been to Austin since early 2013 or late 2012. There's a small doggy door that leads to the balcony (installed by previous owners) that is inoperable. After every rental, we have a cleaning service clean the condo and don't allow dogs from renters. We do know that a lot of people experience allergies in Austin, especially in the Summer. Next comment: My husband and I have never seen a roach ever—and have never had anyone staying in our condo mention this. Ryan emailed us asking if could return and stay for an additional 3 weeks (which is surprising given his review.) Unfortunately the condo was already booked. In the same email, he casually mentioned having seen a roach in the bathroom, but didn't make a big deal about it. A week prior to check out, we wrote to see how everything was going, and he casually mentioned it again. Alarmed, we thanked him for letting us know and called someone to come out to take care of it. Again, we've never had this come up since we started renting out the condo. We offered to handle it while they were still renting, but they asked for us to wait until they were gone. Regarding the full size bed: Full size beds are 54" x 75". That is 6.25 feet in length. It is impossible for this bed to be too small for someone who is 5'9". My husband (who is 6'1") and I find the bed to be totally comfortable. Condiments: Expired condiments do happen from time to time. We appreciate being alerted, and have disposed of the one that we found. Although we like to be as hospitable as we can, airbnb hosts are not obligated to provide condiments such as ketchup to our guests. Laundry: The laundry room is a one minute walk from door to door. It uses quarters. We don't know why "the laundry room" would make one's clothes smell "funny". Maybe it's a detergent problem?
We thoroughly enjoyed our month-long stay. The condo is lovely and well-equipped. It has lots of light without direct sun exposure. The location is convenient to South Congress music spot and great dining.
In addition to a nice place to stay, the hosts are friendly, helpful, and quickly responsive.
Sorenne and Matt's place is awesome! From start to finish they were communicative and helpful. The condo is exactly as advertised, and they even went the extra mile to provide lots of little amenities that other hosts can easily overlook. The location is hard to beat, minutes from downtown and Soco and The Whip In right next door! One of the coolest places to chill, meet folks from all over and enjoy fine craft beer or a glass of wine. I spent an entire month here and enjoyed every minute of it.. wish i could have stayed longer!
A great little spot, close enough to everything to drive in ten minutes or less. Sorenne and Matt definitely think about the comfort of the guest, providing all of the little things. The condo is charming, and the record collection and decor add something unique. The whole experience was easy, relaxed and professional from start to finish.
The only things to be aware of, is you you'll need a car, walking is a bit out of the way.
I would definitely stay there next time I'm in Austin!
The hosts seemed like nice people, but we were overall really disappointed with our stay at the "Rockin' Travis Heights Getaway". The location description was first of all, extremely false. "…this perfect getaway condo is only a 10 minute walk to the South Congress Shopping district." Actually it is a 17min walk up and down numerous hills, with no sidewalks for half of the time you walk through the neighborhood. It's in Travis heights, but the edge near the highway.
We also were kept up late at night by noise from a nearby bar. Our friends that are locals said that bar has an outside stage and has shows a lot. We were woken up at about 3am one night by a girl yelling drunk, then 1am another with her stumbling into her apartment in the complex we were in. She yelled and was crying and falling up and down the stairs. Once she got into her apartment, she was banging on the walls and falling into things. But, considering the whole building knows which unit is rented through airbnb, the neighbors called the owners and complained that we were the ones making the drunken noise. They even said that my fiancé was "chasing a girl up and down the street outside yelling at her, and they were fighting in the front lawn." and these neighbors were dead set on it being us. But we never saw these neighbors, they have no idea what we look like. I called the owner to reassure her we were not those people, and most certainly not the type of guests to disrespect someone else's home and neighborhood.
Before we left one evening we had a couple friends walk inside while we waited for a cab. We turned on the record player low and left within 20 mins. In our agreement it didn't say we weren't allowed to do that, but the neighbors sure said we weren't. The neighbors said we had a party all night long? We were there and left within 20 mins. We definitely weren't raging or rockin' out.
I believe these neighbors just are sick of having strangers vacationing in a small apartment in their building. All the noise that occurred the neighbors assumed it was us. The negative feeling of the building disliking us in a false manner really ruined our vacation. I felt like we were not welcome where we were sleeping, and we were on edge the whole time that a neighbor was going to come upstairs and yell at us for something we did not do.
False location description, the neighbors simply not wanting different strangers staying in their complex, and accusing us of all the noise disturbances, I'd have to say I would not rent to stay here again.
Erika and her fiance are the only bad experience we've ever had on airbnb. They were totally immature, dishonest and didn't respect our house rules. They had a party and then a fight out in front of our condo. In short they can't be trusted. Our neighbors actually called us in Portland (and we've never received a phone call from our neighbors ever!) We allowed them to stay and finish their reservation out of good faith that nothing else would go wrong. Its a shame that they felt the need to leave a bad review when it was they themselves that were the problem. Interestingly enough, they have since deleted their own profile. I would never rent to these people again.
