Beautiful Historic Capitol Hill apartment with view of the Capitol Dome. One block from Capitol South Metro, Library of Congress, Capitol, Washington Monument, Smithsonian, Penn Ave bars and shopping and four blocks from Eastern Market.

The Space

Location, location, location! This apartment is located on a quiet historic district of Capitol Hill. Walk two blocks to Pennsylvania Ave for fine wine, dining, theater, bars and shopping and to the heart of the city, the U.S. Capitol.

Guest Access

Guests will be provided a cool, urban apartment complete with all kitchen amenities and breakfast fixings. Guests with cars will be provided with a guest parking pass (entire Capitol Hill area to include H St, Eastern Market and Union Station).

I also provide a copy of Lonely Planet for Washington D.C. and a laminated street map.

Interaction with Guests

I will almost always be in the area or available by cell phone if guests need assistance. I will usually be available to turn over the key and show the place. If not, the key will be left in a lock box and guests can see themselves in. Check in and check out times are usually very flexible.

The Neighborhood

There are very few neighborhoods like this: It has the quiet feel of a family neighborhood where folks from all walks of life (and both sides of the aisle) take the time to say "hello" and "good morning".

Because of the location's proximity to the U.S. Capitol and large number of neighbors who are members of the House and Senate, there is a constant and visible police presence in the neighborhood at all hours. This is by far one of the nicest and safest areas of D.C.

Getting around

This neighborhood is convenient to the Orange/Blue metro lines (Capitol South), bus routes, and taxi cabs are plenty one block away on Pennsylvania Ave. Union Station is approximately 1 mile/km walking (15 minutes).

Other Things to Note

**Please note this is a historic building and a walk-up (no elevator). May not be suitable for people with limited mobility or for people who have trouble climbing stairs.

  • Elisa was super easy to work with and provided regular communication with me prior to my stay. She was also very accommodating when I had to check out a little late. I had to commute to George Washington University for my daughter's orientation and Elisa provided helpful info on the metro system, distance and travel time. The apartment is very clean, cozy and extremely convenient to public transportation. Having a modern kitchen and bath was an added bonus. The building and neighborhood is very quiet and my stay was very comfortable. There are restaurants just one block from the apartment and I noticed that there were also food trucks nearby during the lunch hour on weekdays. I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to DC. It was a pleasant experience for a first time airbnb patron.

  • This was my first experience on airbnb and has exceeded my expectations. The apartment is bigger than it looks in the photos, is very well equipped, comfortable and clean. It is well located near the metro and in a quiet neighborhood. Communication with Elisa was very good and she responded quickly to my queries. I would definitely stay again in her apartment.

  • Elisa's apartment is really really lovely, but be warned there is NO WIFI AVAILABLE, which I found very inconvenient. Maybe it isn't a big deal to you, especially if you're a domestic traveller, but as somebody from overseas with no 4G available on my cellphone contract, I really needed it. Also, there are no blinds or curtains on the windows so you will be woken at dawn.

My checkout time was changed just a couple of days before I arrived, which meant that I had to change my plans for my last day in town to spend a hour checking my luggage into Union station, even though I had no plans to travel from there when leaving town later that day.

So if you go ahead with your booking, you should be prepared to have to check out at noon on your final day, be woken at dawn by the lack of blinds in the apartment, and remain unconnected to the outside world via wifi for the duration of your stay.

That said, the apartment itself is really clean, very nicely kitted out, easy to find, well located for Capitol Hill and Elisa herself is a lovely host who made sure the fridge was fully stocked and that I had all the info I needed.

Elisa - take my advice as a seasoned Air BNB guest: get some blinds, install wifi, and figure out a way of allowing luggage storage near the building after checkout.
    Thank you.

  • Elisa was a wonderful host! The description she provided about her neighborhood was very accurate. It was a cozy apartment situated in a central part of the city. I felt safe around there, which is key. There were many great restaurants just a few blocks away too. Her apartment was very clean. I also appreciated that Elisa was quick to respond to my messages/inquiries. I would stay there again!

  • Elisa's studio was perfect for our quick stay in DC. We were easily able to walk to the Metro and a lot of the attractions we wanted to see. We were also able to walk to and grab a quick bite to eat and a bottle of wine within minutes of her front door - which can be a life saver after a long day of traveling. Elisa was incredibly prompt in all of our communications. I'd recommend her place to anyone!

  • My experience was excellent. That apartment was clean, attractive and comfortable. It was particularly nice to have a refrigerator full of food, which the host said was available. I was nice to be able to make breakfast rather than having to go out. The apartment is very close to the Metro as well.

Georgetown University
Department of Defense
I am recently separated from the Department of Defense. I will be attending Georgetown University in January as a pre-med student and will be attending medical school in Fall 2015. Profits from Airbnb will be used to augment student loans and to buy text books. I think Washington D.C. still suffers from a bad reputation earned in the 80s and 90s as a dysfunctional city with a high crime rate. So much has changed! I want people who would ordinarily not be able to stay in downtown Washington D.C. because of prohibitively expensive hotel fees to have an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful historic architecture and diversity of our nation's capitol. I love Washington D.C and I hope you will too!
