Enjoy a gorgeous summer or winter getaway at Shanti! A wood burning stove will keep you cozy on even the coldest of snowy days. Dusk till Dawn Bus is off-grid and rustic. It sits on a mesa at 6800 feet and has expansive views of the high desert and endless starry skies.

We are located 3 miles south of Madrid and up a 2-mile unmaintained dirt road, so please plan accordingly during wintry weather.

Madrid is a cool artist town, just 30 minutes south Santa Fe and 1 hour north of Albuquerque.

The space
Experience off-grid magic in the Dusk till Dawn Bus with a small kitchenette, drinking water, and a propane stove. This is our largest converted school bus and has a wood burning stove, table for two, bench seat, and an indoor hanging hammock!

This bus was used in the Dusk Till Dawn television series inspired by Quentin Tarantino and the outside of the bus is still painted exactly as it appeared on the show.

The open-air outhouse provides an experience like no other. A full outdoor community kitchen provides all you need to cook (please clean and tidy up after yourself) and ample space to connect while social distancing in Covid times.

We are an off-grid community, which means we pack out all trash and recycle, haul in all drinking and wash water, and operate minimal electricity with solar panels. Please be considerate and follow all "House Rules."

Please help us stay powered up on shorter winter days by plugging in only cell phones and/or computers during your stay (absolutely NO portable electric heaters, heating blankets, electric kettles, etc.).

Outdoor fires are allowed upon prior approval as long as they are in one of our above-ground fire pits, put out completely before bed, and not lit during windy weather.

$5 per bundle of wood.

In Covid times, we are providing bedding only upon request and for a $10 fee.

Pets warmly welcomed for an additional $10 fee per pet.

Hike the canyon. Fall asleep to the sounds of coyotes howling and owls hooting.

We are located off the world-famous Turquoise Trail, just 5 miles south of Madrid up a 2-mile rocky dirt road.

Please make sure to use Shanti Community Retreat on Google Maps to save frustration and arrive in a good mood.

Please DO NOT enter any of our neighbor's private driveways or property at any time.

Our two-mile unmaintained dirt road is similar to most US Forest Service roads one might use to access beautiful backcountry and pristine wilderness areas. Please plan accordingly, especially during wintry weather. Take the road slow, crank up an awesome playlist, and enjoy the ride.

Once you get here you can breathe in the fresh air of the sunniest state in the US. The views are epic and the vibes are relaxing and slow.

Hi, I'm Shelly, an off-grid, high desert, yurt dwelling, artist, musician, traveller and lover of life! The ten acres where my converted school buses and yurts reside is on a mesa a few short miles from the artist village of Madrid, New Mexico. Going to sleep and then waking to the sound of coyotes, owls, and nearby roosters, with 360 degree views is magical beyond description. Hiking on the land is incredible, and so are the sunsets and sunrises!
Madrid has fabulous restaurants and 30 plus galleries with only 300 residents. The eco friendly off-grid land where I live and am passionate about sharing, offers the best of both.... peaceful privacy and community.

During winter months, Shelly often travels to awesome backcountry settings around the country.

In the meantime, our family of caretakers aim to provide any support you might need, such as delivering more firewood for your wood stove on wintry nights (your space comes readily supplied with 2 bundles for a $10 charge, payable in advance) or supplying more drinking water during longer stays.
