Welcome to our artsy collage! Our home is a small one story filled with our art and colorful Navaho rugs, with Wayne's sculpture and Kaya's pottery. Wayne also does pastel portraits and you'll likely see his easel with work in progress.
We have a piano in the living room and love when people play it! Our home is filled with plants and is warm and cozy all winter! In the spring and summer you will enjoy the garden and patio!
Your room has an excellent quality firm Queen bed with all organic cotton sheets and decorated with our hand-painted furniture. You share the full bath and have use of our fully outfitted kitchen.
Wireless internet and complimentary herbal teas and french press coffee is available in our handmade pottery mugs.
We are dual citizens and lived in New Zealand for 12 years and in an international community. We bring that spirit into our home and we both enjoy meeting new people from all over the world.
You have access to our kitchen, garden, living room, piano, shared bathroom, laundry and all the amazing cafes and hot spots in our trendy neighborhood. We have tons of maps and Portland area information plus we love helping people figure out where to go and how to enjoy the area!
We love chatting when it happens. If there is time to share a cup of tea we always enjoy that too. If you prefer total privacy we of course, respect that as well.
Portland is unique in that much of the real Portlandia culture is on the east side of the river and this is where we are located.
We live in a close-in urban, neighborhood in NE Portland, just a short walk to Alberta Street and the many cafes, great food, boutiques and happenings here.
We are blocks from a half dozen Portland hand-crafted brew pubs and surrounded by many baristas. Every restaurant in our neighborhood has gluten-free and vegan options.
We are walking distance to two city parks and five minutes to New Seasons huge organic super market. We have a drawer full of Portland maps, bike routes and arts events information.
Concordia University is at the end of our street and it's a three minute drive to the antique shops on Mississippi Street.
To easily get to the downtown spots; the Pearl, Saturday Market, and PSU, the bus is only 1.5 blocks and a 20 minute ride. You can come back here where it's quiet, peaceful, and welcoming!
Our tiny 7lb.dog Poppet is sweet, extremely cute and friendly; however she will ignore you if you aren't interested.
We use only non-toxic cleaning products and tend to be health conscious!
Please fill out your profile, including your photo, as we enjoy knowing who you are and who is coming with you.
We want to thank Kaya and Wayne for their hospitality and great advice on Portland must-see's. We enjoyed every bit of our vacation, especially learning how to play Zilch!
The location of Kaya and Wayne's home is perfect for a quiet night sleep yet close to the city centre. Walking distance to Alberta St., a quick hop-step-jump to the bus stop which took us downtown and very close to the major interstates for day trips. For us the location was great as we did day trips to the surrounding areas including Cannon Beach and Washington. Kaya and Wayne have great insights into the best local food spots and nearby hiking destinations, which was just what we needed!
Thank you Kaya and Wayne for helping to make our trip a great success, we have great memories of Portland and hope to be back soon!
Kaya and Wayne are welcoming hosts. They both know their city, and had tons of recommendations for fun, food and activity. Fresh garden food in the back is a plus :)
This place is friendly, quiet, near a couple beautiful parks, and near buses. Kaya and Wayne were friendly and had great recommendations for food and sightseeing (both near and far). The place and garden are beautiful and full of art.
Kaya & Wayne were great hosts. They allowed us to check-in early and had lots of information and recommendations to make our stay really enjoyable. We also appreciated talking with them and their artistic talents. We would definitely recommend a stay with Kaya & Wayne. Happy days, Ray & Margie.
We absolutely loved our time spent at the warm and beautiful home of Kaya and Wayne. Not only was it a lovely place to stay it was filled with their beautiful art. We felt right at home and not like 'guests'. I recommend it very highly for a clean, comfortable and charming accommodation. Our hosts were gracious and interesting, I feel like we have made new friends in Portland! I hope to stay with them again on future visits to a great city!
Kaya and Wayne were very welcoming. Good location for us with what we were doing in town.

Kaya and Wayne are really nice hosts and super easy to get along with. The house has a lot of charm and the strawberries in the backyard are deeeeelicious:) Perfect location, even if you don't want to use a car! A bus station is really close, as well as a bike rental....or you just walk everywhere, that's what we did:) The neighborhood is really nice and you will see lots of pretty and beautiful houses and gardens. Alberta street and Dekum with lots of local and unique restaurants, cafes and little shops are within walking distance. Overall a YES!!! BOOK IT! :) We had a really good time there!
Great stay for a wonderful part of the city ... Kaya was very helpful in providing great options for our all too brief visit to Portland.
Thank you very much ...
Staying with Kaya was lovely. I especially liked being in the Alberta section of Portland, with its many small houses and gardens. So much nicer than downtown, which is touristy and anonymous. Amazing food and drink is found locally. My new favorite district of Portland. Kaya and Wayne made me feel at home.
Great place to hang out while visiting all that beautiful Portland has to offer. Cosy cottage with comfy bed and charming garden within walking distance of great coffee and good food. No question we would come back there again.
