Interaction with Guests
We love chatting when it happens. If there is time to share a cup of tea we always enjoy that too. If you prefer total privacy we of course, respect that as well.
Portland is unique in that much of the real Portlandia culture is on the east side of the river and this is where we are located.
We live in a close-in urban, neighborhood in NE Portland, just a short walk to Alberta Street and the many cafes, great food, boutiques and happenings here. There are almost a dozen yoga studies near by to choose from.
We are blocks from a half dozen Portland hand-crafted brew pubs and surrounded by many baristas. Every restaurant in our neighborhood has gluten-free and vegan options.
We are walking distance to two city parks and five minutes to New Seasons huge organic super market. We have a drawer full of Portland maps, bike routes and arts events information.
Concordia University is at the end of our street and it's a three minute drive to the antique shops on Mississippi Street.
To easily get to the downtown spots; the Pearl, Saturday Market, and PSU, the bus is only 1.5 blocks and a 20 minute ride. You can come back here where it's quiet, peaceful, and welcoming!
Other Things to Note
Our tiny 7lb.dog Poppet is sweet, extremely cute and friendly; however she is now older and will ignore you if you aren't interested.
We use only non-toxic cleaning products and tend to be health conscious!
Please fill out your profile, including your photo, as we enjoy knowing who you are and who is coming with you.
No smokers inside or out please. We appreciate a shoe-free house. Our house is perfect for you if you are quiet, however we do love if you play music !
We had a lovely time at the Artsy Alberta Cottage! Kaya and Wayne were very welcoming and accommodating. They also gave us spot on tips about where to go and what to see. The room was as described--comfortable and charming. Poppet, the little dog, was completely precious. It was great to get to know Kaya and Wayne a bit. Our experience was so much better than staying at a hotel!
Debra- Poppet missed you too! We apologize about little heater in your room not having a timer. Good idea and we will fix that. New house next door and we will talk to them about the light. Excellent feedback as we didn't know. We so enjoyed you both. Thanks for the wonderful piano music. Was great having someone play it.
Had a wonderful stay with Kaya and Wayne. Quiet neighbourhood, close to cafes and bars on Alberta street and a short bus ride downtown. Kaya and Wayne are warm and caring as hosts and went out of their way to ensure my stay was a good one. They provided maps of the area, tips on where to go and even links to more permanent accommodation and even picked me up from the Station when I arrived. I would stay with them again.
Kaya and Wayne were so incredibly welcoming and sweet. They are just a joy to stay with. This was my first airbnb experience and they made it a good one. I felt bad being there, I hate to feel like I'm intruding but they are super easygoing and eager to talk about the portland area. Very kind and Poppet is the sweetest little dog! When I come back to visit, I'll definitely look them up again.
My daughter and I had a lovely stay at Kaya and Wayne's sweet place. It's perfectly located and very quiet and comfortable. A perfect home away from home!
My host was very welcoming and accommodating with our timeframe when we arrived. And was very helpful in showing us where to go out around the neighborhood. The home was exactly as described a lovely artsy cottage. I very much enjoyed my stay there. I felt very welcome in their home.
Kaya and Wayne are wonderful, welcoming hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit with them. They have a small house full of bright colors and art - the bedroom was so comfortable. They are truly great hosts, happy to share their home. Their goodwill pervades the home and the whole experience. They also gave us lots of good information on the neighborhood and Portland.
We were fully satisfied with our stay here. Kaya and Wayne are very nice and their cute little dog will love you. It was nice to come home to the dog's happy jumpiness. The room was clean, the bed is very comfy, the location is a good base for exploring Alberta. The bathroom is shared, but there was never a time when that was an issue and we never once had to wait to use the bathroom. It's a quiet home and Kaya and Wayne go to bed early so we had the place to ourselves when we returned after 10pm. The only potential issue I could see is for very light sleepers, there is a distant train that passes by the area at night. It was a hot night, so we had a window open and it woke us up once during the night for a moment. For us it wasn't a major annoyance, but if you are the type of light sleeper that can't get back to sleep once something wakes you at night, you might keep that in mind....of course, with the window closed I imagine it would be less likely to wake you and would be less of an issue in fall/winter. I don't think it would greatly effect the stay of the average person.
We also hear that train David and I find it a very easy sound- something soothing about a distant train:) This is not something we can change. Otherwise, we have a super quiet neighborhood. But when I stay at hotels etc I always wear earplugs. Maybe will will start adding those to our drawer of toiletries!
Hi and welcome! We live in Portland and we also lived in New Zealand for 12 years, enjoy community and meeting new people. Kaya is an entrepreneur and Wayne is an artist and social worker.
We are both into health and wellness and enjoy riding our bikes around our folksy neighborhood as well as hiking in the Oregon forests. We are both gardeners and clay artists.
You will see our painted furniture and other art in nooks and crannies when you visit our home. Wayne's pastel paintings adorn the living room. We look forward to meeting you.
