My sister, nephew & family stayed in this charming home while in Ukiah. The home was neat & clean and filled with many interesting design elements.
We stayed at JoAnn & Ken’s beautiful home over Memorial Day weekend. We wanted to getaway from the city and this was just the ticket. The layout was perfect for our two families. The decor was simply incredible - art, craft and design abound. It felt like we were staying in a magazine! But it is very comfortable as well - board games and books in the living room, a completely stocked kitchen, a hammock in the trees and beds so comfy we didn’t want to go home.
JoAnn & Ken were lovely hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed our time at their house. We hope to make seasonal return trips to their place.
We stayed here a few days recently. The house was modern and had good amenities. The hosts were professional and no hassles. The house is a bit out of town, but the river access there was nice. The AC was also a nice touch especially in the summer.
Pictures don't do it justice - the whole family - from toddler to mother in law loved this place. Serene private retreat and we fell in love with Ukiah - like Napa without any pretentiousness and cheap!
We were seeking a place that we could go to work on the edit of our documentary. We needed a place that was quiet and comfortable as we were planning on spending a week holed up. This was the perfect spot. The artistic vibe and feel of the place lent to our creativity and the nearby river and open spaces made for good walks to clear our heads.
In the morning we would watch as flocks of timid deer would stroll through the back and front yards. Squirrels would jump from tree to tree near the patio and the sound of birds was everywhere. We would go outside and pick fresh blackberries from the rows of bushes and plums from the trees. We were close to trails for running and walks along vineyards and forests.
The kitchen was incredibly well-stocked with all the cooking necessities and there were things like spices available to help meal preparation in the large kitchen (the stove is amazing). But we could also go into town for brews at the Ukiah Brewery.
Due to the generosity of the hosts, we didn't feel like renters of this home, we felt more like guests. We loved it and wholly recommend this spot to couples, families and filmmakers alike.
We recently traveled to Ukiah for a family wedding and had the pleasure of staying at JoAnn and Ken's magical retreat, nestled amongst the vineyards, along the banks of the Russian River. The setting is secluded and gorgeous. The view out of the front windows is a beautiful meadow with fruit trees and a towering oak. In the back is a private deck surrounded by lush vegetation and bay laurel trees. Most mornings we awoke to find a mama deer and her two babies passing through.
The house is beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. It is spacious enough that our group of 6 could easily spend time together or apart. Of particular note are the many hand crafted pieces of art throughout the house which gives the place a level of elegance not usually found in vacation rentals. In fact, staying at JoAnn and Ken's made me feel less like I was in a rental and more like I was in a friend's home.
JoAnn and Ken's retreat in Ukiah is just that -- a retreat. If you are looking for a secluded and quiet getaway, yet a place that is close to fabulous wineries and restaurants, this is the place for you. Their design sense is impeccable. Each room is beautifully and uniquely furnished and decorated. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to fix full meals.
The river was a bit of a disappointment as we were hoping for a place for kids to splash & play. They did play but not enough to return the second day. Still, I would happily return to this house anytime for a weekend getaway.
The hosts were very accommodating & responsive. They seemed happy to have people enjoy their home and quickly responded to all of our questions.
Thank you kindly, Abby! Ken and I appreciate your positive feedback and are so happy you enjoyed your stay. You and I did have some detailed email discussions about the river prior to your booking. Ken and I are always mindful of little ones by the river which is why I suggested Lake Mendocino as a good alternative. I'm so sorry you were disappointed!
Great place for a weekend get away. House is comfortable, open and airy. It has all the necessary accessories. Great patios and kitchen! If you have a small kayak, bring it along to use on the river!
Great Spot--immaculate and cozy home with a beautiful grounds. JoAnn and Ken were more than accommodating. The kitchen was great for cooking and well stocked with staples, beds were really comfortable, nice linens and very pleasant rooms! The hosts were well prepared, very friendly and promptly responded to all of our questions.
When you need an escape from life, this amazing location will definitely get you away from it all!
Even though the house was just a few minute drive away from Ukiah's main street, the expansive property felt like a secluded retreat. The home itself was open and spacious, with a great sitting area and an amazing kitchen. Bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms were spotless.
When you're not distracted by the amazing art inside, a dip in the neighboring river will refresh you from a day of hiking amongst the redwoods and a bbq on one of the two decks will get you ready for a night out to the Ukiah speedway for stock car races!
Overall, Joann and Ken have an amazing house in a hilariously fun town, everything you need for a great weekend!
