THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Highland Park is a part of the city of Los Angles, and is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. The neighborhood is set up in a hilly area above Downtown along the Arroyo Seco, making it feel like a smaller town within a large metropolis. It is urban, yet suburban at the same time. Highland Park is in a "Historic Preservation Overlay Zone", making it uniquely different from other parts of Los Angeles, with lots of historic houses, old trees, vast park lands, and well preserved architecture. The neighborhood is often referred to as "Old L A". There is a collection of new hip restaurants, bars, a very popular gastro-pub and other stores along York Blvd, as well as a few places on Figueroa St. But York is where all the trendy stuff is happening lately. Highland park is a haven for creative, friendly and down to earth people, and you are sure to make a friend or two if you spend enough time here. At the same time, in 10 minutes you can be in Downtown and the rest of Southern California beyond, making Highland Park, in our opinion, a great neighborhood to hang your hat!
We are warm and friendly hosts, both native to Southern California. Come experience the real Los Angeles, stay with friendly native Angelinos!

We love to interact with guests but also love our privacy. Some guests spend a lot of time interacting with us, other guests keep to themselves. We are cool either way. The important thing is to be comfortable and at home.
Most important is to please lock the front door when coming and going, especially if you are coming in at night. Smoking outside only and clean your butts please, pets allowed on a pre-approved basis, guest has use of kitchen and laundry by appointment, guest must display common courtesy regarding noise, cleanliness, etc.
Please consider the environment and energy conservation and use the air conditioner responsibly. There is a "fan only" feature for use at night or when it is cooler outside than inside.
Please call us on the day of your arrival with an accurate arrival time (within an hour)
House is gay owned-gay friendly.
It was a great stay at Harvey's. The bedroom and bathroom are very clean. The location is very convenient. Definitely will come back next time I'm in LA.
Our stay with Harvey was excellent! Both he and Ricky were very kind and inviting. Claire and I were new to the city and arrived a bit late, they were incredibly accommodating to the late arrival and gave us plenty of helpful tips about where to park.
We ended up spending all day out and about exploring the city-and we felt very comfortable coming and going as we needed to.
Me & my mom came to LA and since I stayed with Harvey & Ricky last year and had a great experience, I found no reason to stay elsewhere. Everything was fantastic once again! We enjoyed the dinner we had together the most! It was delicious and thanks again! We can only recommend this place to ANYONE! You can't go wrong here!
Arrived at Harvey's at 8 PM and he gave me about 3 minutes of his time. I just flew in from NYC and was very tired.
The room is on a very busy road in front of a bus stop. Most of the buses that stopped frequently had air brakes that were very squeaky. The room was very hot and there is no air conditioner as stated in the add. I did not sleep that night and checked out the next morning.
The photos are also extremely misleading since the house is in fair condition at best. Neighborhood is a bit seedy.
I would love to respond to this review and provide some clarification. Michael the guest arrived an hour later than scheduled and I had to be at a meeting in 15 minutes . I always try to schedule my appointments around the guest's estimated arrival time. When he arrived I gave him a good tour of the house, showed him how to use the locks, and even gave him advice about where to have dinner. He seemed completely satisfied with the check in process and thanked me with a smile. Regarding the air conditioner: we use the air conditioner during the summer. It is not usually necessary in the winter and spring. It was chilly outside, not hot, when Michael arrived. However, had Michael asked, I could have set up the air conditioner for him as it is portable and easy to make available any time. The next morning Michael said he couldn't sleep and that he has trouble sleeping in general. He wanted to check out. So, I made him a cup of coffee, helped him figure out what neighborhood to stay in next, and we had a very nice chat. I am even giving him a partial refund since he didn't use the room for the entire reservation. Besides telling me he couldn't sleep, he didn't mention any other issues, and never mentioned wanting the air conditioner. I wish I had been given a chance to help him be more comfortable, but he left after one night. We pride ourselves on providing a comfortable, welcoming, and clean space for our guests. If we can do anything to make your stay with us more enjoyable, please ask and we will be happy to assist you. I think Michael may not be used to what home sharing really is and perhaps he was expecting a hotel experience. In any case, we value the feedback and thank Michael for staying with us and for taking the time to share his experience.
Everything was fine and according to the airbnb add. I enjoyed Harvey's place. He was very kind and help me to find the best way to visit interestuing olaces in LA.
Harvey and Ricky made our first Airbnb experience the absolute best!! They made our stay comfortable, relaxed, and fun. We always had fresh towels, fridge space, clean private bathroom, and watched TV in our room! We loved their humor and enjoyed hanging out at night on their spacious patio. The neighborhood is close to the freeway, good restaurants, and grocery stores. We'll miss them (+their puppies) and would definitely stay again in a heartbeat!

About the Host, Harvey
I am a professional male and my life partner, Ricky and I own the house and live here together. We are both chefs. Ricky is a private chef in Santa Monica. I recently left my life long business career in catering and restaurants to pursue a business with Arbonne, a global health and wellness product company. I am also developing a blog that will focus on clean, detox-friendly gourmet cooking. I am loving my new food passion and my new business. We love having guests in our home and people love staying in our guest room. We are very friendly and love to socialize, and we also love those peaceful moments in time when everyone finds their own personal corner on the property to relax and rejuvenate. We look forward to hosting and meeting a lot of new people!
