THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Highland Park is a part of the city of Los Angles, and is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. The neighborhood is set up in a hilly area above Downtown along the Arroyo Seco, making it feel like a smaller town within a large metropolis. It is urban, yet suburban at the same time. Highland Park is in a "Historic Preservation Overlay Zone", making it uniquely different from other parts of Los Angeles, with lots of historic houses, old trees, vast park lands, and well preserved architecture. The neighborhood is often referred to as "Old L A". There is a collection of new hip restaurants, bars, a very popular gastro-pub and other stores along York Blvd, as well as a few places on Figueroa St. But York is where all the trendy stuff is happening lately. Highland park is a haven for creative, friendly and down to earth people, and you are sure to make a friend or two if you spend enough time here. At the same time, in 10 minutes you can be in Downtown and the rest of Southern California beyond, making Highland Park, in our opinion, a great neighborhood to hang your hat!
We are warm and friendly hosts, both native to Southern California. Come experience the real Los Angeles, stay with friendly native Angelinos!

It was a great 4 night stay for my friend and I at Harvey and Ricky's beautiful home! Everything travelers would appreciate - a comfy bed, spacious bedroom n a private bathroom, beautiful front garden n backyard. We drove so it was great that there's free parking at a street nearby (less than a minute's walk from the house). But most importantly, Harvey and Ricky were warmhearted hosts who made us feel welcomed in a country so far from our home :). The much talked about three lovely dogs certainly lived up to their reputation too :) Max, chikita n little foot are so calm n well-behaved that even someone like me, afraid of over-enthusiastic dogs, fell in love with them.
Magical. That is how I describe my stay at the home of Harvey and Ricky.
This stay was my second Airbnb experience and was a great delight. The energy of Harvey and Ricky’s home is welcoming, comforting, nourishing, and peaceful. Both hosts (as well as adorable Chiquita, Little Foot, and Max) created an atmosphere which felt to me as if I had “come home”.
After having lived in the Thousand Oaks area for two-and-a-half years and having spent a lot of the past seven years in Southern California, I had never been to “Old LA”.
Discovering “Old LA” was a fun adventure. I loved experiencing the area and eclectic and creative neighborhood.
During my stay, I had rented a car and discovered – with the myriad freeways I had never previously traveled – I could get to all my destinations with minimal difficulty. Santa Monica, Malibu, Ventura, Thousand Oaks, Woodland Hills, Lake Arrowhead, Palm Springs, and Downtown LA circumscribed the area I roamed and enjoyed. Harvey and Ricky’s space put me in the middle of it all.
In addition to appreciating the warm cordiality of Harvey and Ricky, I loved spending time with Max, Chiquita, and Little Foot. After being out on adventure and then returning to the house, I loved and looked forward to being with these special dogs. Seeing them look out the front door’s window while I walked up the steps added to the “coming home” feeling and experience.
I am thankful to Harvey and Ricky for providing such a lovely space filled with great energy. For me, this was an important trip. Harvey and Ricky’s beautiful creation of their home and their sharing it was an unforeseen surprise and delight which augmented my stay to the magical experience it became.
Harvey immediately made me feel welcome as he showed me around and introduced me to his dogs. The place was as expected. Even though it's old, it still looks and feels great. The neighborhood was a little run down though. The best part was that Harvey graciously let me use his kitchen and grill for cooking. He also has amazing soaps and shampoos in the showers and bathrooms.
Harvey and Ricky were extremely welcoming and had a lovely home (with three absolutely perfect pups included). Though the house was located on a main street, we didn't have too much trouble falling asleep and the advice they gave us about the city was great Thanks so much, guys!
Harvey and Ricky were great hosts and both really sweet. They made us feel welcome and were helpful in giving us directions to certain places and tips of where to visit in LA. The photos were pretty accurate in portraying the room. Everything was clean and well-kept. The private bathroom was an upside; however it was a little inconvenient to have to walk downstairs and through another room. I would recommend staying here.
It was a great stay at Harvey's. The bedroom and bathroom are very clean. The location is very convenient. Definitely will come back next time I'm in LA.
Our stay with Harvey was excellent! Both he and Ricky were very kind and inviting. Claire and I were new to the city and arrived a bit late, they were incredibly accommodating to the late arrival and gave us plenty of helpful tips about where to park.
We ended up spending all day out and about exploring the city-and we felt very comfortable coming and going as we needed to.

About the Host, Harvey
I am a professional male and my life partner, Ricky and I own the house and live here together. We are both chefs. Ricky is a private chef in Santa Monica. I recently left my life long business career in catering and restaurants to pursue a business with Arbonne, a global health and wellness product company. I am also developing a blog that will focus on clean, detox-friendly gourmet cooking. I am loving my new food passion and my new business. We love having guests in our home and people love staying in our guest room. We are very friendly and love to socialize, and we also love those peaceful moments in time when everyone finds their own personal corner on the property to relax and rejuvenate. We look forward to hosting and meeting a lot of new people!
