EXPLORE A PRIVATE RED ROCK WONDERLAND 🌄🦊🌠🦎🥾🚴‍♀️

Your stay includes access to a truly remarkable landscape of hidden canyons, side canyons, a year-round creek, towering red cliffs, ancient juniper trees, wildflowers, cacti, abundant wildlife, and miles of trails to explore. Wander along the historic cattle trail, follow the winding dry wash into secluded side canyons, or simply sit back and enjoy the beauty surrounding you.

During the summer monsoons, waterfalls often cascade from the canyon walls while dramatic lightning storms roll across the desert sky—an unforgettable sight from the comfort of your private retreat.

For adventurous guests, the red rocks offer endless opportunities for exploration, climbing, photography, and discovery. Hidden throughout the area are ancient alcoves and archaeological sites that have remained here for over a thousand years.

EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO A SPECIAL PLACE

As a volunteer site steward for several backcountry archaeological sites, I have access to areas that are normally closed to the public. Guests staying here may have the opportunity to explore portions of this protected landscape that few visitors ever get to experience.

A PROTECTED WILDLIFE PRESERVE 🦌🦎🦊

Our community borders CANYON OF THE ANCIENTS NATIONAL MONUMENT and is dedicated to preserving the natural habitat for the many birds and animals that call this area home. Because of agreements within our community and our commitment to protecting wildlife, we are unable to accommodate pets or children.

Keeping the Bungalow and Cabin pet-free also allows us to provide an allergy-friendly environment for guests and for our wonderful housekeeper, who is highly sensitive to pet dander.

NO PETS • NO CHILDREN UNDER 18

If you’re traveling with pets, I’d be happy to recommend several nearby accommodations that welcome them.

Come experience a place unlike anywhere else—quiet, wild, beautiful, and filled with opportunities for adventure, discovery, and unforgettable memories.

Neighborhood highlights

It's a great part of the area that you don't see elsewhere. It has the Ute Mountain that you view from your bungalow (10,000 ft.). You are in the high red rock desert (5600ft) with pinions and old juniper trees that are estimated over 900 years old. There is an historic cemetery in the canyon you hike to. The original road was washed-out along with homes in 1911. The old road used to be near the bungalow. There are archeologists excavating on the property's Anasazi ruins that date back thousands of years ago. McElmo Canyon was known for its produce and took 1st place for peaches in the Saint Louis World's Fair in the 1910's.

My work: I had been a wedding photographer in Durango, Colorado for 20 years and have retired from doing big weddings and now do photography with the emphasis on my art and photo shoots for guests here in the red rock canyons.
Lives in United States
Originally from San Diego I now live in the 4 corners area for the last 20 years in beautiful McElmo Canyon. I Love exploring, hiking, riding and the outdoors. Me and my partner Steve have created a safe haven here for animals in the wild and don't allow hunting. We have an organic garden that is shared with the community here and we live in harmony with the land that surrounds us. I am grateful & blessed everyday to live here and share this part of the world with others. I'm fortunate enough to be a steward of this magical place. Mark
