The neighbourhood is very convenient and safe. The street has undergone a recent upgrade which means there are a lot of local businesses which are open. The area is great if you want a more authentic experience in Zihuatanejo.

  • Rosalba was an amazing host. Her apartment is in a great location in Zihua - right between the town and the best beach (Playa del Ropa). The apartment overlooks the town and is clean and had everything we needed, including two fans. Rosalba gave us some great tips for places to go in the area. There is a pool below the apartment which is great to cool down in at the end of a warm day. The town centre of Zihua is only a short walk from the apartment and there are heaps of great (and cheap) places to eat. Playa del Ropa is 10 minutes walk and there are excellent bars/restaurants on the beach to hang out at all day, eat great food and drink cocktails (while occasionally cooling off in the Pacific). We would recommend staying at Rosalba's if you want the best of both the beach and the town of Zihua.

  • Rosalba was very gracious and helpful. Our apartment was quite large and very clean. Its a short 5 minute walk to the beach and an equally short walk to downtown.
Great location. Traffic noise can be a bit loud for those who aren't use to living in the city. We felt safe and secure, and made use of the kitchenette to make meals.
Being high on the hill and close to the ocean means there was usually a breeze, especially at night which made sleeping comfortable. We would happily return.

  • We had an amazing, private and beautiful time with hostess Rosalba and her extended family close at hand.

Our private apartment in her family's "household compound" (think of a well-designed cluster of private residences artfully layered on top of one another) was just what we wanted--safe, quiet, and relaxing, with several fans to cool you and keep mosquitoes at bay in the night, great view of the city with a large tree full of wildlife nearby (we'd sit on the porch and drink our morning coffee while listening to the city come alive, watching the cars and trucks on the colorful hills, as hummingbirds and butterflies flitted to and fro in the large tree), a clean and comfortable bed / bedding, plenty of cooking area and refrigerator space if you plan to cook / drink, abundant fresh water for much-needed daily hydration and a tidy bathroom.

You are very close to Playa Madera (one block out the back gate) and El Centro (downtown) is a very easy walk. We had a healthy dose of exercise walking up to our room each day (Zihuatanejo is extremely hilly), but made up for it in fantastic food at La Gula and Las Adelitas. Drop-off laundry, pharmacies, banks, and the local markets are all short walks away--we even had a haircut at the local salon and it was muy fantastico!

If you want a more authentic travel experience where you can feel safe, but not be surrounded by Americans or Canadians, this is a great choice. Sensible travelers will appreciate this secret gem...and hopefully help to keep it under the radar so it isn't spoiled!

About
My family has lived in Zihuatanejo for 50 years. I own and manage a restaurant called La Gula with my husband who is a local chef. I am passionate about this town which has a lot to offer people who are looking for a break from their busy lives.
